Notice the different philosophies at work. Clinton enabled N.K. by providing nuke-u-lar power to them. Bush said screw you to the nuke-u-lar power and NOW after we have shown force, they give in.

Why don't the Dhems understand the use of force?

Great News, if true. Too bad, the same time North Korea is going belly up, so are we. Hard to see sending them money, food, and oil when that's all the things we need. Better to let them into this poker game we play, I guess it will be cheaper in the long run, if we get to bring back our troops over there.

It's probably just a coincidence that the time it would take to get rid of all the nuke materials and processing equipment is the time it would take to ship it to Iran...

Well I was going to try to say something erudite, but I can't stop laughing and thinking about that movie now...

You too BDavis.

<blockquote>Bryan, I’m afraid this will be spun as a victory for sweet-talking diplomacy...

Exactly. How can Kim be trusted? He's shown in the past he cannot. His self-proclaimed self-reliant nation would doubtful cave so quickly, and accept foreign aid.

Or perhaps it's just Dear Leader can't get those nukes to work properly, as we saw with the recent missle tests and underground explosion. Must be running out the petty cash box, and he even misses his Hennessy, or whatever he drinks.

I would let him fail miserably. The downside is the people's continued suffering, but to give that government any shred of recognition in the form of any more treaties is absurd.

this, if it turns out to be true, could be an incredible legacy for Bush. This might be right up there with 9/11, Afghanistan and could even be bigger then Iraq

Bryan, I'm afraid this will be spun as a victory for sweet-talking diplomacy instead of Boltononian hardassery. And it's always possible that the latter course and its supporters (me among them) were just wrong.

On the other hand, the 1994 accords looked like a victory for concessions and nuance as well, and those didn't go so well.

If we would have had a Democrat as president, this would not be happening. As much as we all like beating up on Bush, we should recognize this as no small accomplishment.

Mr. Ph.D. had marbles in his mouth trying to explain that one away.

"<em>Trust but verify</em>" was a witticism, not a recommendation.

It means, literally, "<em>Don't trust, but say it in a way that makes you sound conciliatory</em>."

North Korean needs food so they can give the locusts a break.
