It’s not a toilet. Depending on your point of view, it’s either A) the seat of justice, or B) a troll booth.

In any case, it doesn’t really matter. The Senator has apparently decided to crap out.

If he doesn’t know anything about this whole “bathroom signals” thing, how do you explain that comment?

I would think that by the time they were in the interrogation room, I’m pretty sure that the officer and Craig had probably discussed the reason for the interview.

One thing I’ve been saying since this story broke is that at best this is shotty police work, and extremely unprofessional. Law enforcement never conducts a sting without any form of audio or video confirmation that there was a crime. Yet no standard….

From the audio, I believe that Craigs was guilty. But the cop also seems guilty for entrapment. And the threats of jailtime and media exposure for a quick guilty plea doesn’t sit well.

Even if the cop tapped first, or even whistled a show tune, it wouldn’t bother me (lying about would of course). That’s like cops dressing up as hookers and walking down the street. As long as they don’t make a proposition, it’s not entrapment.

Claiming entrapment is saying you wouldn’t have been willing
to do something if the cop had not induced you. So here Craig is saying that the cop, simply by tapping his feet, was able to induce Craig to make an advance in a public bathroom that he would have otherwise been unwilling to make. So even if that claim is true, Craig is unfit for office. So how did Bush induce Craig to vote pro-amnesty? Maybe Bush tugged on his ear, and that did it.

And threats of jailtime is what cops are for.

To have a man’s life crash down on him like this for something so stupid is one of the saddest things I’ve seen.

Again, I think Craig is disgusting, and he should be pushed out… but my issue is not only with lack of media attention when Dems do things that are often worse, it’s the fact that their own party doesn’t push them out the way the GOP tends to. A foot tapper and an instant messenger are (rightfully) tossed, but real criminals on the Dem side and a guy who admits to an affair with a 17 year old page, and a guy who hired gay prostitutes and allowed a prostitution ring to be run out of his house, “swimmer”, etc. etc. are allowed to keep their positions… and run again and be reelected! (The reelection part is where the media comes in… if there was any fair coverage, these Dems wouldn’t stand a chance of being reelected.)

Also, since the cop probably knew that the Senator visits that particular bathroom frequently (as admitted), then how do we know this cop wasn’t setting him up?

The problem with these bathroom arrests are that video is not allowed for obvious reasons. That leaves too much room for corrupt cops to fill their quotas without wasting their day sitting on a toilet for nothing.

And BTW, you parents out there shouldn’t allow your kids to go into public bathrooms by themselves anyway without checking it out first, or waiting inside for them anyway. No telling who could be in a bathroom anyway.

Or maybe… after listening three times to the tape… it was actually mistake or entrapment. That officer sounds like he’s leading the subject.

You make a mistake in eliminating the possibility that both the officer enganged in misconduct and Craig is sleezy. One does not exclude the other.

I was responding to the “This was a set-up” comments, and never said one excluded the other, but Craig didn’t sign a confession that day, he signed two months later, after speaking with an attorney.

But please go on accusing as police officer of misconduct.

Trying to convince someone, or even threatening, that they are somehow in less trouble if they plead guilty, seems like misconduct to me. Are police supposed to lie and say things like just sign this murder confession and you will only get a week in jail. It doesnt matter if it works or if people are dumb enough to believe it, the question is are things like that ethical? This is what defnese lawyers are there to protect people from and I think he could have his guilty plea overturned on this basis even if he is guilty of the act.

But regardless, Craig should resign for the good of the rest of us.
