Breaking: “Hillraiser” Norman Hsu is a fugitive Update: Hillary, other Dems to give away Hsu’s campaign cash

Well. One of Hillary Clinton’s biggest supporters, the same one who turned up in a weird fundraising story yesterday, is officially a fugitive swindler.
The Los Angeles Times will report on this website later tonight and in Wednesday’s print editions that a major Democratic Party fundraiser named Norman Hsu is wanted by authorities for skipping out on an agreement to serve up to three years in prison after pleading no contest to grand theft swindling charges.
In an exclusive story by Chuck Neubauer and Robin Fields, The Times will report that for three years Hsu has been carving out a place of political and financial influence by funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions into Democratic Party coffers, much of the money earmarked for Sen. Hillary Clinton. He has earned the ranking of Hillraiser for pledging to raise at least $100,000 for her.
He has given to several big-name Democrats, including presidential candidates Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Swimmer Kennedy, too.
“He is a fugitive,” said Ronald Smetana of the California attorney general’s office. “Do you know where he is?”
Perhaps he’s in China where the rest of the Clintons’ 1996 pals fled to.
Update: Sweetness & Light has the LA Times story.
Update (AP): Radioactive! Now, what about the Paws’ money?
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton will give to charity the $23,000 in donations that she has received from a fundraiser who is wanted in California for failing to appear for sentencing on a 1991 grand theft charge…
Al Franken, a Senate candidate in Minnesota, Rep. Michael Honda of California and Rep. Joe Sestak of Pennsylvania said they would divest their campaigns of Hsu’s donations…
In a statement Wednesday, Hsu said:
“I believe I properly resolved all of the legal issues related to my bankruptcy in the early 1990s. Therefore, I was surprised to learn that there appears to be an outstanding warrant — as demonstrated by the fact that I have and do live a public life. I have not sought to evade any of my obligations and certainly not the law.”

alibaba! Say it isn’t so! My cats were poisoned by the recalled pet food contaminated with Chinese ingredients. I spend a lot of time at itchmo keeping track of the recalls, which are still ongoing, although no longer labelled recalls.
As we pet owners scoured the web for clues, alibaba was often the top of the search list touting all kinds of Chinese made additives, glutens, protein fractions and assorted products with color pictures of the bags and crystals.
When you dig you cannot believe how much of our food components are being processed under Chinese law.
My fur is ruffled now. This has hit home
entagor on August 29, 2007 at 1:25 PM
Alibaba is a trading company. It appears they trade in goods manufactured in China.
Can anyone find a phone number or an address for “Cool Planets Ltd”? Norman Hsu lists this as his place of employment. Open Secrets reports that Cool Planets was the #3 political contributor from the clothing industry in the 2006 election cycle.
Is this company even real?

She very well may be the next President. We have to summon the strength to oppose her, in office or out.
(Btw, she’s my senator, along with Schmuckie. Imagine how I feel)
We better not quit, even if we fear losing.
I know it feels like banging your head against the wall, but hey, it comes with the territory. Might just be the noblest thing we ever do with our lives, short of serving in the armed forces.

Yeah, but I guess my point was that if a Republican had faced that older scandal, it would have likely been a career ender. There would have been nonstop coverage that would have sunk someone in the GOP. Instead, Hillary was involved in a massive scandal, and hardly anyone is the wiser. As I said, this new fund raising scandal will likely unfold (or not unfold, I guess I should say) the same way.

When the campaigns say they are going to donate the contributions to charity, does anyone follow up on these claims? Do they actually donate the money?
If a campaign wants nothing to do with a contributor with shady connections, why don’t they give the money back to the contributor? They’re that callous that they assume control of the funds and give them to a charity of their choice?
gabriel sutherland on August 29, 2007 at 3:25 PM
Now I don’t know how many Franklin Templeton Fund analysts are ex mail carriers, but it looks like someone crossed occupations with his Dad who is a mail carrier.
Was someone helping with the form submissions?
Could someone just be using names to put into the FEC without their knowledge?
CommentGuy on August 29, 2007 at 3:28 PM
Another strange item
Looking over the FEC records the zipcode listed is 94014 or 94015 depending on which record you are looking at.
Odd for a postal worker to list two different zipcodes unless they had a change there in the last 3 years, and they are not consistent with the same family members over the date range.
CommentGuy on August 29, 2007 at 3:37 PM
You can see how these are creating a trend of irregularities in the contributions from Norman Hsu and the Paw family that should constitute a minute evaluation on the part of the FEC.
E. Lawrence Marcello Jr. disagrees, but I don’t think he has been asked enough about the Paw gifts. Why is Marcello answering for the Paw family if he represents Norman Hsu?

This reminds me of the old funeral joke–which I will now share with you.
Senator Ted Kennedy dies. But no Democratic figure can be found to give the eulogy. Final, one V.I.P. is coerced into agreeing. Here is his speech:
“Yes, Teddy was a liar. Yes, he was a cheat. Yes, he was a drunkard. Yes, he was a philanderer. Yes, he probably committed manslaughter. And, yes, he probably even committed treason, too.”
After pausing to wipe his brow:
“But compared to the Clintons, he was a Saint!”

Faraway,
I was kind of kidding here (Buy Danish on August 29, 2007 at 11:02 AM) when I said I couldn’t find anything on “Next Components Ltd” but did find something on “Generation Next Components Ltd.” who sell spy camera jammers, mobile phone jammers and the like.
Now that I know that alibaba.com (gotta love that name!)is a Chinese Company and Clinton is involved, maybe I did find something after all. Thanks for the tip!
When I originally clicked on the “Generation Next Page” here where you can by those handy dandy jammers, it takes you to an Indian address, so I blew it off since it wasn’t Chinese like Hsu.
Alibaba.com sells a lot of stuff in addition to jammers, including apparel just like Mr. Hsu.
It’s all probably one big coincidence.

Comment Guy,
I was just about to post this:
More of a coincidence?
Dorian Grey found out that Cool Planets has a Murray Hill address on 39th Street. In addition to the Planet Hollywood office that uses “Cool Planets” as a name, the only thing I’ve found is a company called Clean Air-Cool Planet (CA-CP) which is the region’s leading organization dedicated to finding and promoting solutions to global warming.
I did a yellow pages search earlier of “Next Components Ltd”, and found one listed right up the street from “Cool Planets” at 1431 Broadway Lbby, New York, NY 10018 – on 38th Street.
At that lobby location is “Cosmetics Plus” and “Washington Mutual Bank” so this must be some kind of retail store, but I don’t know what they “sell”. Cameras? Laundry equipment? Paper bags?
Dang, I wish I still lived in NYC, I’d stroll right over there.
Buy Danish on August 29, 2007 at 6:23 PM
Go to Google maps
Zoom in to street level and you will get the picture you can pan around and it appears to be mainly office buildings.
Just too many red flags I am seeing on this situation.

Just doesn’t sound right to me.

Comment Guy,
If Hsu is giving to freaking pre-school referendums, then someone in the Democrat Party is telling him who to donate to, and it takes a village to arrange all of this. Surely the Chicoms don’t care about that (unless of course they AND the “Progressives” want to be sure our children are brainwashed at an early age, but I digress).
The more support Hillary has in every hill and dale in Democrat politics, the better her chance of getting the nomination, and if she’s elected, the better to get her Socialist initiatives through. She is a machine.
Also –
NORMAN HSU – 45 FIFTH AVE. I thought it was 445 Fifth Avenue.
Addresses change which make it harder to check location, “Next Components Ltd.” becomes “Components Ltd.”, et cetera, all of which makes it more difficult to track.

PATRICK’S BILLIONAIRE
Billionaire financier Stephen Schwarzman was listed as one of the hosts of a 40th birthday party for Democratic Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy of Rhode Island Thursday night at the New York Yacht Club in Manhattan. An individual ticket cost $1,000, with $5,000 required to be a VIP.
Schwarzman, co-founder and CEO of the Blackstone Group, made newspaper front pages when it was reported he would earn $7.5 billion from the public offering of his private-equity firm. Other big money Democrats listed on the invitation included David Boies,Norman Hsu, Felix Rohatyn, Bernard Schwartz, Todd Slotkin and Kenneth I. Starr. The principal host was the congressman’s father, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.
The location of the party could be found only by phoning a Washington telephone number to R.S.V.P.
