Breaking: “Hillraiser” Norman Hsu is a fugitive Update: Hillary, other Dems to give away Hsu’s campaign cash

Well. One of Hillary Clinton’s biggest supporters, the same one who turned up in a weird fundraising story yesterday, is officially a fugitive swindler.

The Los Angeles Times will report on this website later tonight and in Wednesday’s print editions that a major Democratic Party fundraiser named Norman Hsu is wanted by authorities for skipping out on an agreement to serve up to three years in prison after pleading no contest to grand theft swindling charges.

In an exclusive story by Chuck Neubauer and Robin Fields, The Times will report that for three years Hsu has been carving out a place of political and financial influence by funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions into Democratic Party coffers, much of the money earmarked for Sen. Hillary Clinton. He has earned the ranking of Hillraiser for pledging to raise at least $100,000 for her.

He has given to several big-name Democrats, including presidential candidates Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Swimmer Kennedy, too.

“He is a fugitive,” said Ronald Smetana of the California attorney general’s office. “Do you know where he is?”

Perhaps he’s in China where the rest of the Clintons’ 1996 pals fled to.

Update: Sweetness & Light has the LA Times story.

Update (AP): Radioactive! Now, what about the Paws’ money?

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton will give to charity the $23,000 in donations that she has received from a fundraiser who is wanted in California for failing to appear for sentencing on a 1991 grand theft charge…

Al Franken, a Senate candidate in Minnesota, Rep. Michael Honda of California and Rep. Joe Sestak of Pennsylvania said they would divest their campaigns of Hsu’s donations…

In a statement Wednesday, Hsu said:

“I believe I properly resolved all of the legal issues related to my bankruptcy in the early 1990s. Therefore, I was surprised to learn that there appears to be an outstanding warrant — as demonstrated by the fact that I have and do live a public life. I have not sought to evade any of my obligations and certainly not the law.”

And the RightWinged Times will report right now that Hsu tapped his foot under my bathroom stall in an airport recently.

Seriously though, H&C will talk about this, maybe a mention in the Political Grapevine, and that will be about all you’ll hear about it in the MSM, unless something big happens to blow this up.

Probably met him through Gore at the Buddahist temple. What is with the Clintons and the Dems with the Chinese “mafia”?
The strange part, is polls show that the Chinese are overwhelming Republicans. Which would probably mean the ones that a Dems are the ones that are the snakes.

When Feinstein was throwing her bids out, wasn’t more than a few going to business deals with her husband and China?

right2bright on August 29, 2007 at 7:26 AM

Try this one for size: Hsu could be a ChiCom sympathizer/agent? (Mind you, I make that speculation knowing that it nothing to do with the fact that he’s a fugitive right now…)

rightg33k on August 29, 2007 at 7:34 AM

Reading further, looks like Hsu did give a chunk of change to Feinstein.

They better start investigating that B*tch. If they don’t you know some Republicans have a hand in those “bids”.

right2bright on August 29, 2007 at 7:35 AM

Sometimes I wonder whether the Clintons are the brains, or have we all been duped and it is really the Chinese that have been the brains behind the Clintons, as well as a lot of other faces in the Democrat party.

If there is something shady going on, it’s amazing how transparent and poorly managed the operation is. I guess we can take some small comfort in the fact that our politicians and their moneymen are as incompetent in crime as they are in representing our interests.

_Jon on August 29, 2007 at 8:21 AM

re. MSM will bury all of this.

The good news:

1. The MSM “reportedly” adds 10% to Dem. candidates. That’s probably down somewhat, and falling, due to New Media.

2. Majority of Americans get it right, sooner or later. ex. Shamnesty. MSM was forced to “report” the story (lamely), not “create” it.

i.e. MSM will continue to make news, but not exclusively.

Here is another fund raiser for Debbie Stabenow of MI.

CommentGuy on August 29, 2007 at 9:05 AM

From the WSJ story:

A Clinton campaign spokesman, Howard Wolfson, said in an email: “Norman Hsu is a longtime and generous supporter of the Democratic party and its candidates, including Senator Clinton. During Mr. Hsu’s many years of active participation in the political process, there has been no question about his integrity or his commitment to playing by the rules, and we have absolutely no reason to call his contributions into question.”

I don’t doubt that he has played by the Clinton’s rules. If Hillary is elected, will her brother, Hugh Rodham, be appointed to the White House Office of Cash for Pardons?

Buy Danish on August 29, 2007 at 9:11 AM

LA couldn’t have been looking to hard for him, he was a co chair of a Clinton fund raiser there not long ago.

Other co-chairs include Susan and Scott Corwin, Kimberly and John Emerson, Carol Hamilton and David Kohn, Norman Hsu, Noah Mamet, Lisa and Brad Mindlin, Jane and Marc Nathanson and Laura and Casey Wasserman. More will be announced as the committee is formed.

Still to be decided is when or where Steven Spielberg will co-host a fund-raiser for Clinton. He is donating to multiple candidates, having also co-hosted last week’s Obama event.

CommentGuy on August 29, 2007 at 9:16 AM

Who will be the 1st to photoshop Hillary in a john, tapping foot, hand reaching under the divider being filled with Chinese money?

Wade on August 29, 2007 at 9:18 AM

Oh and also tied to Elliot Spitzer

Norman Hsu, the clothing magnate, gave $15,000. Joseph Belluck, who used to serve as counsel in Spitzer’s AG office and handled the tobacco lawsuit cases, gave $25,000. Developer and Democratic fund-raiser David Steiner contributed $20,000. Friedrike Merck, whose ancestors built the pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co., kicked in $10,000.

CommentGuy on August 29, 2007 at 9:18 AM

Hsu has developed a specialty of bundling hefty campaign contributions from obscure citizens who live modest lives and have never before given money to campaigns. Many are not even registered to vote.

Hm.

It appears to just be a part of the Chinese effort to be the world’s only superpower.

The Clinton connection?

In January 2002, the Congressional Research Service published a report titled “China: Possible Missile Technology Transfer from U.S. Satellite Export Policy.” The report chronicles how in 1996, after a series of NASA satellite launch failures, the Clinton administration moved export control of commercial satellite technology from the State Department to the Department of Commerce. China subsequently launched numerous American satellites into orbit. A New York Times exposé in 1998 prompted a criminal investigation into whether Loral Space and Communications Ltd. and Hughes Electronics Corporation, both parties to the Chinese satellite launches, had provided technology information to the Chinese which enhanced their ballistic missile technology and ergo their nuclear weapons delivery capability. A subsequent congressional investigation produced the classified Cox Report in December 1998, indicating that indeed China’s military capabilities had benefited from U.S. exports for the past 20 years, including the launching of American communications satellites.

Rightwinged
More interestingly, from your Wiki:

During the campaign, Clinton vowed to improve the economic picture in upstate New York, promising that her plan would deliver 200,000 New York jobs over six years. Her plan included specific tax credits with the purpose of rewarding job creation and encouraging business investment, especially in the high-tech sector. She called for targeted personal tax cuts for college tuition and long-term care.

Wha?? Who IS she, really? Did she do any of that, actually?

Who DIDN”T Know that hilly’s senate run was nothing more than her springboard to run for president? She doesn’t give a rat’s arse about New York.

Indeed, I wonder if “Winkle Paw” and “Dimple Paw” are even real people or a joke. In any case, Winkle certainly has had an awful lot of jobs:

According to Newsmeat.com, Winkle is at Franklin Templeton; a mail carrier like his Dad William;an employee of “CoolPower” which is located in Ireland and is a solar energy company; a Director at “Next Components Ltd” and “Next Electronics” – for which I can’t find any info on Google. The Dems don’t care about Dem corruption. The last time I saw William Jefferson brought up on a talking-heads show, the Dem was screaming “Alleged!…Alleged!…Presumption of innocence!…”

The only way any Dem will care about this is if one of Shrill’s top Primary opponents figures their own fundraising house is clean enough, and thinks it’s worth the effort and could affect her negatively.

Bill Clinton raped half a dozen women and got away with it. He illegally took money from the Chinese government and got away with it.
