This is America. Why do they have to live in fear? And what are they afraid of? Being ostracized? Being shunned at their mosque? Oh well. I’d tell them to get over it, but would prefer that Islam dies out from merely exposing it for what it is.

Sometimes I think “moderate Muslims” should be called non-combatant Muslims.

Now what does that schmuck Colmes mean by that? I thought he was liberal, i.e. minority more important than majority. Now “a very big group of people” matter? Why? Because they are part of the Religion Of Peace? Huh? He makes my head hurt.

Wake up, Libs; playing by *their rules* (the dictates of extremist Islam), doesn’t work. They don’t think you’re nicer, or more reasonable and they won’t soften. As far as they are concerned, this is for keeps, for their God and religion, and everything else takes a back seat.

If you watch closely you’ll see a certain lack of conviction in some of his counter-point positions.

That’s such a good point and it bears repeating.

The moderate Muslim lives on the fabled “Arab Street.” That is, it’s not a real person; whenever anyone mentions it, it’s a white non-Muslim referring to some phantom creation into whose mouth they can put their liberal, Western ideas. It’s like the “black friend” white people create when challenged that they’re racist: “No, I have lots of black friends!” You know, that black guy we sort of know.

The surveys seem to suggest that the true moderate Muslim isn’t planning to blow anyone up, but then again doesn’t have strong feelings if someone else does it.

In that light, moderate Muslim is little comfort.

Two things. One: remember when Comedy Central wouldn’t allow Matt and Trey to show a cartoon of Mohammad and everybody was like “this is an example of creeping sharia” and then it turned out that much of the media ended……

If I were the Pres. I would like Steyn as an adviser, he’s right just about all the time.

Look, I can understand your frustration, and your point about using anonymous blogs is a good one that I don’t know the answer to.

However, Steyn’s point that if we don’t have the courage to be in the vanguard in fighting censorship and appeasement the war will be lost, is vitally important.

I am far more angry and disgusted at what Steyn calls the “craven” media and political opportunists then I am at the silent moderates, who are understandably frightened by the death and violence perpetrated against private, free speaking citizens.

Imagine what it’s like to live in fear, yet hear the media and politicians repeat the mantra, day in and day out, that there’s nothing to worry about, that (other than a few cave dwellers) the enemy is a figment of your imagination? How does one summon up the courage to fight under those circumstances, where this sort of bizarre alternative reality has been established?

And I say this as someone who is quite swayed by Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s argument that there is no such thing as moderate Islam, and that Islam is incompatible with America.
