I am apalled that so many people are unfamiliar with maps. All 4 of my children could point to the US on a map or globe by the time they began 1st grade. Not only that, but they could find our state and point to the general vicinity of our town.

People judge women based on their looks. If a man looks like he spends four hours a day on hair care and defoliation, most people (with good reason) ASSUME that he’s an idiot unless he conclusively proves otherwise. With women, it’s the opposite way around.

Sorry, chief. Since I’ve been to both Latvia and Lithuania I’m not likely to forget them (or neighboring Estonia) – and I’d ace your Middle Eastern countries quiz.

Now get me in sub-Saharan Africa or some of the island nations off southern Asia … and I’ll be confused, too.

But, see, while your snark of the snarkers is amusing in its hypocrisy, you completely miss the point: The Great Einstein of South Carolina didn’t confuse Uzbekistan with the Ukraine or Moldavia with Mozambique … instead she seems patently confused about her own country. And she’s apparently not alone.

I don’t expect the average Lithuanian to be able to point to Fargo or Sioux City on a map; I don’t even think they necessarily should be able find Canada (after all, who cares about Canada?)

But I’d think they could find their own damn country.

If that’s really to much to ask as a minimal level of geographic knowledge – finding your own homeland on a map – well, call me a snarker. I’m guilty.

There are so many things she could have said (obviously!!)…. Her answer? I have never forgotten this one since it was so hysterical…… “I am proud of the beaches of America.”

Too bad; up to that point she was way ahead of the other contestants. It was all downhill for her after that.
