Re-run: Bush warns of an Iranian Holocaust; Update: U.S. troops arrest six Iranian “diplomats” in Baghdad

I guess anytime the president of the United States warns of an impending Holocaust it warrants the Drudge red font, especially on a day when Ahmadinejad’s talking tough too, but he’s made this point before. As has Ehud Olmert. As has the dove of doves, Shimon Peres, who put it most bluntly. Not the first time lately that Drudge has hyped old news as something new and splashworthy, either, but since he was kind enough to do it let’s revisit one of the reasons Bush is worried. Here’s the “pragmatist,” “moderate” likely future Supreme Leader of Iran, Akbar Rafsanjani, on the subject of nuclear detente with Israel in December 2001:
Rafsanjani said that Muslims must surround colonialism and force them [the colonialists] to see whether Israel is beneficial to them or not. If one day, he said, the world of Islam comes to possess the weapons currently in Israel’s possession [meaning nuclear weapons] – on that day this method of global arrogance would come to a dead end. This, he said, is because the use of a nuclear bomb in Israel will leave nothing on the ground, whereas it will only damage the world of Islam.
In fact, there was some real news at Bush’s speech today. This one’s also sort of old but has new urgency given the new escalation in the war of words:
In his speech to the American Legion, Mr Bush hit back, accusing Iran’s Revolutionary Guards of funding and arming insurgents in Iraq.
And he said Iran’s leaders could not avoid some responsibility for attacks on coalition troops and Iraqi civilians.
“I have authorised our military commanders in Iraq to confront Tehran’s murderous activities,” he said.
He’s not talking about an invasion — or rather, he is, but not the one you may think. Read Jeff Emanuel to see what I mean. Quote:
Recently, a Public Affairs officer within Multinational Force-Iraq privately expressed his concern to me that the media were spiking or deliberately misrepresenting reports made by the military about Iranian involvement and the capture of Persian fighters within Iraq. “We would arrest three members of the al Quds force (part of the Revolutionary Guard), and the story that would come out in the papers the next day would be, ‘Three Iranian diplomats arrested from embassy.’ I’d call the folks at the papers and say, ‘Look, these folks weren’t diplomats, and they weren’t at an embassy. They’re Iranian soldiers and they were taken while fighting against the coalition in Iraq.’ I’d say to them, ‘We have evidence – from weapons to ID cards to uniforms – that proves beyond a doubt who and what they are,’ and I’d offer to bring them in and walk through each piece of evidence with them.
“They’d never take me up on it, and would never correct their stories.”
Update: Things are escalating awfully fast all of a sudden. Bush has been under pressure from Condi and the Iranians to release the five Quds Force members seized at Irbil in January; that was expected to be one of the goodwill gestures we’d make as part of the newfound “dialogue” with Iran. Forget about that now. Not only are they still in U.S. custody, we’re actually rounding up new guys. See Jeff Emanuel’s post up above about what kind of “diplomats” these turds doubtless are.

Just sent in the USA today report on Bush’s speech. It does seem he ordered the military to crack down on Iranian involvement in Iraq.
What that does for the Basra area is another matter

When Drudge first had this up, it not only had the opressive red font, but the siren as well. I tried to follow his link but it wouldn’t go. My browser said something to the affect of “asiaafricanews.com”. I went back to his site later to find that he switched it to an AP wire story on Breitbart.com. Was anyone able to get the original news source? Was it the same AP wire? If not, do you remember any diferent info in the first?

Iranian forces in Iraq doesn’t fit the lib template. The war in Iraq is supposed to be local Iraqi Freedom Fighters trying to drive the Great Satan from their land. Iranian fighters crossing the border to fight an enemy who hasn’t declared war on them, opens them up for retaliation. But, if they are “diplomats” then if/when the US goes into Iran, the libs can say that President Bush invaded a country with which we had no conflict.

All that and Pakistan also.

Yes or no – are we going to war with Iran?
If so – when?

The raids against Iran’s proxy terror groups continue as well. On August 27, Coalition forces captured eight members of the Iranian-backed special groups terror cells during a raid Baghdad’s Sadr City. The main target of the raid, a “Special Groups senior level facilitator with possible Iranian connections,” was captured along with seven suspected cell members. On August 28, Iraqi and US forces captured a weapons distributor who is connected to the special groups network and who has “direct ties to other senior commanders in militias operating in and around Baghdad.”

No, Anutjob believes he has a manifest destiny to fulfill, that destiny involves starting the world wide conflict that will provoke the return of the 12th Imman.

Absolutely, War with Iran is inevitable.
This I do not know. I suspect it won’t be until a few US or Israeli cities have vaporized under mushroom clouds.
Scorched_Earth on August 28, 2007 at 4:41 PM
I suspect that Israel will make damn sure that the first mushroom cloud appears over Iran…and rightly so.
Go yids!

The Iranian diplomats were there waiting for a visit for incoming Secretary of State O. Hussein Barack.

IMHO, I’m thinking we’re going to wait for the first slip up by Iran before doing anything. We’ll shoot words across the bow but nothing else – yee gads, I hope Condi retires soon. The free world (including Israel), Iraq and Afghanistan need someone that can back up tough talk with a convincing promise – leaving no doubt of intentions. I had such high hopes for her too. Actually, admire her a lot. The last couple of years has seen a 180 in her efforts at diplomacy.

GWB has to enlist other Arab nations to join against the Persians. Iran’s western oil province is majority Arab, and reportedly “restless.” The Arab countries do not want Persian Iran to have Arab Iraq. Muslims are not as unified as you would think. Seems like there’s a deal to be had.

Amen. College provosts (0) vs. suicidal murderers (1).
JiangxiDad on August 28, 2007 at 5:24 PM
Jiangxi, the Arabs are also smart enough to let us use our young men and women as fodder. There has to be many sleepness nights for some in the ME, wondering what Iran’s loons are planning. What is that air base in Saudi Arabia being used for these days? We can start fixing it up after all the rebuilding we’re doing in Iraq, plus building the largest U.S. Embassy anywhere in the world. Me thinks we’re planning on a long stay.

Yes, read Jeff Emanuel’s post. A nice lil primer on the horrific historic powder keg and the modern ‘chamberlain-esque tools’ who appease the iranian reaper.
Is GW auditioning for a bigger stage?
“I have authorised our military commanders in Iraq to confront Tehran’s murderous activities,” he said.
Scary stuff.

Repeat: It’d be cheaper (and better) to just light ‘em on fire.
Jaibones on August 28, 2007 at 6:31 PM
I also would like to see GWB light up Iran before he leaves office. Then after the dust settles and we elect a new pres., then he send’s a newer friendlier delegation of his top advisers (new&improved) over to Iran, what’s left of it that is, and blames everything that has happened on the last administration. Say one thing and do another, that is their (Arab’s) way of life. So they will totally understand.
Legions on August 28, 2007 at 10:07 PM
There is obviously something afoot as the saber rattling between the US and Iran becomes more intense, and Ahmadinejad’s words become more strident with each passing day.
I believe that his rhetoric is now a sign of fear that the US, after showing patience for years, has finally had enough from this Middle Eastern Napoleon and intends to send him to Allah C.O.D.
