What I don’t get is how any one of presumes to know his true intentions or feelings. Of course professions of remorse come quickly when someone’s been caught red-handed. Equally, life-changing episodes often seem to bring us a little closer to God.

Ever been in a car accident? Had a gun pulled on you? Got food poisoning? I’ve thanked God in every one of those circumstances…and I was not faking. Granted I hadn’t committed any violent felonies either. But if I had, I imagine I’d be looking for God too.

When someone does something horrible, or has some great moral failing, it’s usually time for a drastic change. Sure it rings hollow, but if he’s gonna repair his soul and redress his wrongdoing, then he has to start somewhere.

Also, the suggestion that Vick will convert to Islam is curious. I have only ever heard anecdotal references to jailhouse Islam and its prevalence among black inmates. None of the Muslims I know have ever been to prison or jail. I tutored a handful of ex-cons for a short while, and none of them practiced Islam. In fact, they all professed their faith in Jesus. Victory Outreach is a Christain ministry that finds many convicts and ex-cons in its flock.

Certainly, Islam finds more converts in jail, but I bet Satanism does too. I don’t think Islam will every uproot Christianity in America…not before secularism.

What is the most popular religion in prison? If somebody has stats on religion among convicts, I would love to see them.

I’m guessing a lot of prisoners are bored enough that praying five times a day to Mecca actually sounds exciting.

side note:
Protecting animals is great. But I think Vick’s real crime was the depravity and base violence. But we must remember, lot’s of peole eat dogs. There is nothing that makes one animal more valuable than the next.

An even more addendum:
We still allow for the killing of defenseless fetuses babies inside the womb. How many PETA members are pro-life?

Well, since I have never participated in dog fighting I guess I’ll cast my stone. This guy deserves everyting he gets. Especially for using the I found Jesus now let me be act. I am sick and tired of people doing that.

Vick’s relationship with God has absolutely nothing to do with his culpability for being a emotionless thug. If Vick has accepted Christ, his sins are forgiven but not forgotten by the US Justice Department. It isn’t a mitigating factor.

I don’t disagree. He needs to pay for what he did. The judge made it clear that he is not bound by the prosecutors suggestion of 12-18 months. I do think that Vick’s statement today is the first step in his rehabilitation in public opinion. Although after reading this thread, he may have further to go than at least I first thought!

I’m still happy about his profession of Faith. If true, it will make all the difference. If Vick lets Him, God can, and will, change him!

Hey,, fine whatever,, my point is in not what his punishment should be,, my point was he was at least taking responsibility for his actions. I in no way here am defending what he did,, or saying “See he apologized, lets move on” He needs to pay the consequences. If he goes to jail, he goes to jail. What he did was horrible. My point is only he is stepping up and admitting it was wrong and ready for whatever comes down. At least it seems that way. And in the process he is stating he has discovered his need for a Savior,, and that Savior is Jesus! If it isn’t real,, then time will tell. If it is real, he will suffer the consequences and maintain this same attitude.

Sorry, but I don’t see how anything this man said,, or how he said it, gave “Finding Jesus” a bad name! He took full responsibility and admitted it was wrong. Yes, he asked for forgiveness,, but he also seemed ready for whatever consequences follow, and said he will not point the finger at anyone else! He apologized to everyone! What more can you ask for??

Did Michael Vick find Jesus? Only God knows for sure and I’m not going to judge Vick’s heart. That is between him and God. I sure hope he did. If so, it’s the beginning of a new life for him! Of course, that new life starts in prison.

I worked for Nike some years ago and they do have an “employment at will” policy. For “regular” employees they can give as little notice as they want. After I had left there I kept in touch with some of the people there and they told me about a number of people who were called into their manager’s office at 3 or 4pm on a Friday, were told that their employment had been terminated, and when they got back to their desk a security guard stood there while they packed the stuff in their desk and then escorted them out the door.

One time at a summer company picnic an employee’s wife and kids came along, his kids were wearing Reboks, and they fired him the next day.

Try more like he lost $150 MILLION. Yeah, that’s right, One-Hundred-Fifty-Million-Dollars, and he blew it on a few thousand dollars worth of dog fighting and bankrolling illegal gambling.

How the hell can you possibly see Vick as the victim? He lost all that career money because VICK HIMSELF, along with professional sports and a sports equipment sponsor layed that loss on him, not society. Society is going to give him a jail sentence within sentencing parameters, as layed out by law, so unbunch your undies.

Pro Sports has to have some sort of code of ethics, and Nike reserves the right to hire and fire whomever the hell they want to for any reason they deem fit. Michael Vick’s a hood rat, and Michael Vick’s reaping just what Michael Vick has sown… no more, no less.
