Open Thread: Michelle on the Monday Factor Update: Video added
posted at 7:40 pm on August 27, 2007 by Bryan
The boss is guest hosting the O’Reilly Factor tonight. Topics include the Gonzales resignation, Michael Vick’s guilty plea and “I found Jesus” speech, follow-up on Elvira Arellano, and more. 8 pm Eastern — be there.
I’ll have highlights after the show.
Update: An interesting show. Jason Whitlock rejects Michael Vick as a victim, Michael Scheuer blames the Clinton admin for failing to kill bin Laden when they had then chance, Michelle and Kirsten discuss Gonzo, and Michelle catches a pastor lying on national television.

Ooooo … Ann is coming up in the no spin zone. I’ll reserve comment for now. :)

Rev. Walter Coleman reminds me a lot of Father Robert Drinan.

Its our falut that she proke the law
I feel so guilty
William Amos on August 27, 2007 at 8:26 PM
“An act of civil disobedience against an unjust law”
Why is that striking me as an odd thing to say.
Suffice it to say, I don’t think Rev Coleman is a fan of Michelle’s.
yo on August 27, 2007 at 8:27 PM
WTF is that Obama commercial ? Is he giving a tour of where Immigrants can stay ?
William Amos on August 27, 2007 at 8:27 PM
did you notice the rev will not look at michelle or the camera? could he be blind or just too insecure?
allrsn on August 27, 2007 at 8:28 PM
God, this program is SO much better when Michelle is hosting. FOX needs to replace Bill O’ with Michelle and let him fill in for her when she goes on vacation.
Tony737 on August 27, 2007 at 8:28 PM
Michelle should have confromted him more. She pointed out she had a hearing and just didnt go in her “Act of civil disobeience”
William Amos on August 27, 2007 at 8:29 PM
Point I have been wanting to make and this segment gives it to me
Libs love to rant that “killing a terrorists doesnt work as it only creates a hundred more”
So using your logic libs wont killing or capturing Osama only create more terrorism ?
So why in the HELL are you ranting that Bush dropped the ball in going into Iraq instead of staying in Afganistan ?
The problem is that terrorism is larger than one man in Bin Laden. Islamofacism is going to last long after Bin Laden is dead and gone
William Amos on August 27, 2007 at 8:33 PM
Come Michelle (& Michael)… Bin Laden is dead, long dead.
LegendHasIt on August 27, 2007 at 8:34 PM
I figured the segment with Ann would be a tape of her with Bill.
Dork B. on August 27, 2007 at 8:35 PM
LOL “McCain Is what the dems use to be before democrats became John Kerry”

Why do I get the uneasy feeling that the stupid dog actually LIKES that particular aspect of the situation?
CyberCipher on August 27, 2007 at 8:42 PM
Fixed it for you…. But you are quite obviously correct: in that Bin Laden was essentially neutered within a week after 9-11 when his money was cut off. The guy never really mattered other than as a ‘spiritual leader’ and financier.
If these people had any brains they would concentrate on getting Zawahiri… He is the real danger as far as ‘high level’ terrorist operations go. He is actually smart and a good planner.
LegendHasIt on August 27, 2007 at 8:49 PM
Tru dat.
Can’t watch any more, though – got things to do – but I’ll give Michelle a very strong “B” for this. She’s definitely starting to show signs of good polish.
At times, she mimics O’Reilly’s delivery – not a fan of that; but, she’s finding her own voice, quickly enough.
The main gig on her (which is the main gig on almost all anchors in this genre), is the tad bit of condescension in her voice. Heard a good deal of it with Rev. Regardless of if she’s right, or not – a little respect goes a long way and can really disarm a person who’s expecting a fight.
But that’s just me.
All in all, good work. I’d love to see Geraldo shown the door and Michelle step right in and boost the ratings.
yo on August 27, 2007 at 8:53 PM
The key point is that dems want to make this a “war on Bin Laden” rather than a war on terror
Because they want to just say the threat is over so they can gut the military again.
But the threat is only going to get worse if we dont confront it. If we give Al Queda any kind of breathing room they will find a way to make 911 look like small potatoes.

Topic suggestion for next appearance: as a followup to the Newark executions (in which a MACHETE was used) evaluation of the new directive from NJ’s AG: turn in a machete, get a free bus trip.

The pilot they found for Michelle to interview was less than adequate. I think Michelle even looked irritated.
jediwebdude on August 27, 2007 at 9:45 PM
I can see why Bush appoints people he knows because the way government is its too easy to get someone who is willing to run to the press and trash the president to make himself look better. See some former appointees who have turned on Bush since leaving office.
That said Bush is on the down side of his term in office and now is the time to make some bold moves. Cant get much worse for him
William Amos on August 27, 2007 at 10:10 PM
Indeed she did, but I was disappointed she wasn’t harder on him. She really almost let him steal the segment with his pandering to illegal alien causes. How about addressing her hypocrisy with her recent speech blaming the US for HER illegal activities? I would have preferred if Michelle had hit him harder over that one at least.

MM looked stunning, sounded sharp and glad to say so.

I liked the way Michelle mopped up the floor with the dishonest, open borders shaman that they brought in.
JayHaw Phrenzie on August 27, 2007 at 10:41 PM
If one wonders why liberal religious groups are losing adherents like a sieve, he/she needs only to listen to the America-hating Rev. Coleman. I grew up a Unitarian and do not believe in a literal Trinity, but could never attend a Unitarian service simply because liberalism has replaced theology within the organization. I have become almost as disenchated with the Presbyterianism of my ancestry and early youth as the national organization has chosen to side with the Palestino-Nazis against Israel. It almost seems as though the national nonfundamentalist religious organizations, including the Catholic Church, have become allies of those who would destroy the U.S. as we know it today.

Dear Lord:
African-American men growing up in this country face many challenges. Many of them grow up without fathers. Many attend public schools that are woefully deficient. They are inundated with rap music carrying messages that it’s perfectly fine to disobey the law and to treat women like dirt. Many fall victim to gang violence, or know that they could be victimized by violence at any time, more than likely inflicted by another African-American man.
In spite of these challenges, many African-American men do go on to become solid, admirable citizens. Like Jason Whitlock. Could you do whatever you can, Lord, to see that we have more Jason Whitlocks and fewer Michael Vicks? Thanks.

That socialist “Reverend” is an arrogant slimeball, reminds me of Ward Churchill.
infidel4life on August 27, 2007 at 11:29 PM
Seeing only the video here, I think possibly Michelle didn’t ‘bulldog’ the rancid Reverend more due to time constraints.
And I think she realized that she would never get a straight answer out of him, so why give him more time to filibluster?
(Not a typo)

Rev Coleman and ICE so far as that goes don’t seem to have a good handle on what would constitute sanctuary.
Sanctuary is when your accused of wrongdoing and are afraid of an unfair day in court, after having been through the justice system as Elvira had her fleeing to a church at that point is no different from hiding out to avoid the sentence, that’s not sanctuary.
Speakup on August 28, 2007 at 12:48 AM
Michelle had a great analysis on the administration. I’ve kept back for a long time and I’m frankly more than ticked off at the border situation…where we make sweet deals with drug dealers, hang our men for doing their job, bless sanctuary cities, etc. It just does not make sense to me so there has to be a paper or money trail somewhere that explains this (and no, I’m not really talking conspiracy theory stuff). Mexico or USA must have some agreement or something that makes Bush not want to secure the border and be tough on illegals..especially the criminals /complete boggle . I just want to understand is all…and I know enough to know it is not done out of a *good heart* for the mexicans.

We need a constitutional amendment to change the Fourteenth Amendment and eliminate birth tourism and anchor baby fraud.
Sylvia Arellano illegally re-entered the United States just so that Saul could be born here. She has been abusing the system ever since he was born.

The show is so much better with Michelle.

Bravo Michelle!
Zorro on August 28, 2007 at 6:46 AM
I didn’t want Gonzo to resign because it gives ANOTHER scalp to the Democrats. All this is going to do is whet their appetities. Michelle’s right, they’re “crowing” and doing their little victory dance. Schumer is besides himself in SELF-RIGHTEOUS chest thumping. Especially Schumer was behind the illegal credit-reporting scam against Michael Steele and walked away scott free.
When is George W. Bush going to go after the Senate Democrats? When is he going to go after Jay Rockefeller, Schumer, Leahy, Kennedy and Durbin? He can grind these lying clowns into the mud. Why won’t he?
georgej on August 28, 2007 at 6:47 AM
I think it’s a personality flaw/deficiency. When he has to verbally rise to a challenge, it looks like it exhausts him.
Maybe his faith tells him so.
He has a management flaw, and a flawed team of less than stellar old friends that doesn’t compensate effectively for his deficiency.
I agree that it is more than frustrating to sit and watch these sucker punches. I don’t think he knows how to take them on in the cheerful way that Ronald Regan delivered his put-downs. And if he goes for the jugular, the American people, riled by the media, balk.
JiangxiDad on August 28, 2007 at 7:46 AM
Two important points of clarification on some incorrect information presented:
1) Michael Scheuer is a pan-Islamist, anti-Israel shill. He was a failure on the CIA’s Bin Laden desk and was removed. At the time he was at the desk, he did not see Bin Laden as the threat he now claims he saw him as. That was part of why he was removed and has been well documented. It is unfortunate that he is now being given more airtime and exposure, so he can blame his failures on someone else. Scheuer has constantly contradicted himself, and his books and appearances usually wrongly blames Israel for Bin Laden’s attacks on America. He claims that if we stopped our alliance with Israel, Al-Qaeda would stop tomorrow. That’s pure BS. Not surprisingly, he is a well-paid regular on the anti-Israel, Islamist lecture circuit.
I wish people would not give his false views so much exposure.
2) Yes, when she was appointed, Julie Myers was married to John Wood (not Woods). But he left his job as Chertoff’s Chief of Staff many months ago. He is now (and has been) U.S. Attorney for the Kansas City area (the U.S. Attorney was fired by Gonzales and the Bush Admin. to make room for Wood). Not sure if it was clear that he’s now gone (and has been for a while).

I think calling a “Ballon Operator” a Pilot is a stretch.

Yeah, think about it…these guys had to go somewhere to work after all the elevators went self-serve.
James on August 28, 2007 at 9:11 AM
Shhhhh! We all know it’s true, but don’t let Bill hear you or Michelle’s out of a gig.
At least until Fox unveils their super-secret MM pilot.
saint kansas on August 28, 2007 at 9:23 AM
Uh, news flash, pastor and advocate of the criminal aliens: if you have a court hearing and you choose not to show up, you’ve had your day in court.
I’m not 100% sure that he was lying; rather, I’d be more convinced that he’s just too dumb to know the difference and too indoctrinated in leftist drivel to be able to learn otherwise. Either way, Michelle did a great job of exposing him for what he is.

Ha! The gagging move she pulled after she mentioning Teddy was classic.
Malpaso on August 28, 2007 at 10:57 AM
You go girl.
Your expose’ of croynism was factual and when put in the context of time shows what is really going on behind the scenes. Behind the scenes is where the problem is-an anointed leader is put in charge of lifetime government employees that are really making the policy and laws with or without the approval of their boss or legislators. This is where the problem is and firing them is what got Gonzales the boot,
Your other segments highlight the Dems still have the habit of levying lies in quantities that are so large and absurd that something has to stick (simply by weight of garbage something on the bottom must stick).
Also, excellent job in interviewing the pastor who represents the left at their best. It was amazing to watch him fumble with the truth as evidenced by the fact he could not even look you or the public in the eye-which according to behavior recognition (the PC version of profiling) is a sign of lying and not being able to face the truth-always watch the eyes.
Politics is in a great state of flux, and change is going to occur sooner than later, and that change is being shaped by your generation which I also sense will finally get it right.
MSGTAS on August 28, 2007 at 11:06 AM
I’ve wondered if possibly MM doing a “Factor” 5 nights a week(would be great) would become a huge strain on her while along with her other media interests and of course family responsibilities. I was thinking maybe a partner for her, like Laura Ingram , Ann Coulter or even a Dennis Miller and they could rotate hopefully no one would get into be a routine and become a bore as O’ Reilly has.
Sure is a much more enjoyable program when MM is the hostess…she intelligent, attractive and sooo knowledgable with a pleasing personality.
oldernslower on August 28, 2007 at 11:11 AM
And yet:
I’d have a hard time taking my eyes off of Michelle (except to look at KP, that is).
As some of the left reminded us when anti-abortion people blocked the entrance to a clinic, civil disobedience includes not just breaking the law, but also accepting the penalty for doing so, which Ms. Arellano avoided by re-entering the U.S. after her first deportation, and then hiding out in a church after her felony conviction. Come to think of it, does the reverend think that the law against obtaining false SSN’s is unjust?
Bigfoot on August 28, 2007 at 12:38 PM
Lying and other assorted un-pastorlike behavior is the order of the day at that church. I live nearby and have been there for protests and to cover it for my blog.
Check this video out for more un-pastorlike behavior, this time from Coleman’s associate pastor, Beti Guevara.
