<blockquote>Ok. Just looked at the pic. of the bldg. again…and…is it just me or does it look like the old Atari symbol?</blockquote>

WoG, the Atari logo is a symbolic representation of Mt. Fuji. Yes, the render of the building concept is meant to evoke Fujiyama.

All that comes to mind is: <em>super-Legionaire's disease</em>.

Such elephantitus in architecture reminds me of the loopy illustrations in the 1899 H.G. Wells' novel "When the Sleeper Wakes". (<em>Envisioning a gigantic Victrola horn as a way to broadcast to the masses, ad absurdum</em>.)

The parachute bills alone would make this folly cost-prohibitive.

<blockquote>But is it Godzilla proof?

Godzilla resistant. Nothing is completely Godzilla proof!

If the Japanese go 13,000 we have to go 15,000. Where do you get all the wood, concrete and steel to build a mountain, anyway? Why not just hollow out Mt. Rainier?

I don't see why anyone would want to do this. I could see having the TALLest building but 13,000 feet is crazy.

Why don't they pile up dirt to 80,000 feet and then put a rocket launching pad there. Now <strong>THAT</strong> would accomplish something.

Some "wonders" I would like to see.

an underwater and underground city
A moon city
an entire mountain face with the words of the founding documents on it ( mount everest comes to mind)
a mars city
flying cars
supersonic personal transportation tubes
fountain of youth in a bottle
breaking the speed of light
creating the Jurassic park for real

some other lesser wonders:

a non liberal movie
a government offical quits due to lack of work
government refunds all taxes for the year because they couldn't find anything better to do with the money
Liberals migrate South of the border enmass for the winter
Glaciers return to the great lakes
OBL head on a pike in front of the White house

Ha We on August 25, 2007 at 4:48 PM

I understand all the "wonders" that modern man has built. I respect those things but that is not what I am talking about. All of those things are "to do" something each has a purpose. The golden gate bridge is a bridge, electricity is electricty all have a purpose and were built for that purpose.

What I am talking about is an endevor for the sake of the endover. Mount Rushmore comes to mind but with today's technology that feat could be easily accomplished.

I'm talking about building something for the sake of building it. To go beyond all of our technology to dream of bigger better things. Something like the Moon mission maybe. Not to improve our lives, not to make our lives easier, not to conquer some human sorrow. Just to go "beyond" our limits to reach for the stars so to speak. The ancients accomplished all of the "wonders" with next to nothing in technology yet some of the wonders still stand to this day. Bush 39 called it a vision thing, sadly I think we are losing our "vision".

We as a country can not even rebuild the two towers after 6 years. It is still a hole in the ground. I think that more than anything is a symbol of the Bush legacy. And I think that is a symbol of this country's lack of "vision"

Every generation of America had a vision except ours. The taming of the wilderness, the revolution war, the manifest destiny, the end of slavery, the war to end all wars, the defeat of NAzism, the atomic age, the moon mission, the defeat of communism and then nothing for the next 27 years...except the new world order which is not a vision I and many American share.

All of these things unified us as a nation and with a purpose and all showed that there were no limits to what humans could do. All reached for the stars. We no longer reach for the stars we sit and do not dream.

I hope they actually build it one day. And in the process of construction, they develop some tricks that will make single structures more durable, less expensive, and more livable for the rest of us humans.

The imagination of humanity never fails to amaze me. ;-)

Now, if only we could replicate that in New Mexico and Arizona, I suspect that the natural sunlight could power several of those marvels easily.

How about this for a skyscraper? Solar powered, environmentally controlled from base to full height (at 4,000 meters, over two miles high, you've climbed high enough for altitude hypoxia to set in)...

Well, structurally speaking, if they could create the whole thing out of carbon nanotubes, then it would flex just enough that it wouldn't be stressed too hard by external forces.
