You were provided a couple of different sources. You choose very selectively what it is you will believe.

As I said if it is true he is a coward, plain and simple, no matter what he did after that. And his other quoted comments show him to be a very vile individual.

To compare that to mlitary service is a slap in the face of the millions who have worn the uniform.

I think most people would look at Nugent going to Afghanistan and conclude that no, he isn’t a coward.

Apologize, hell. Our rights will be won by steady forward advancement, determined opposition, and exploitation of the other side’s weaknesses, particularly their ubiquitous dishonesty. But it also requires people to think well of us, because that’s how we make new shooters. We don’t need to make determined Second Amendment activists; we don’t need to make conservatives; all we need to do is make enough liberal citizens who own guns. That constituency will limit the options of gun-swiping politicians, no matter who wins or loses any given election. That gives us a defensive bulwark from which to advance.

Did you bother to find out about the summer camp he holds every year for kids? Or that he plants hundreds of trees a year and has probably done more hands on conservationist work than most liberal enviromentalists? You might want to look into that before you pass judgement.

So what does that give him? Some kind of “credits”? Like Al Gore who guzzles like a pig, but has “carbon credits”. Or some rapist can get “rape credits” if he makes a donation to a rape crisis center? What parent in their right mind would let their kids go on a summer camp with him anyway?

Hardly anyone wanted to go to RVN in 1971/1972. Pretty much all enthusiasm for the war was gone by then. I didn’t. Mostly though because I didn’t want to leave a certain gal that I had just meet a few weeks ago. I actually flunked a drug test that they started to give guys then before going over. The drug test was in error as the only “drug” that I had ever taken was beer. I could have said, “darn you caught me”, but I said that those who did the test must be incompetent, and by some implication him, and demanded to see the base commander and the major who was in charge said “Well OK, you pass”. Don’t think though that I didn’t have some second thoughts, but not many as it would have been too dishonorable.

Good times, bad times.
