Horror in St. Paul

Both Michelle and Jihad Watch have posted on this story, so I’ll direct you their way rather than make much comment of my own. The story is of a woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted in an apartment hallway for 90 minutes, and though there were many witnesses nearby, no one came to her aid.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — A security video from an apartment hallway shows at least 10 witnesses ignored a woman’s cries for help for more than an hour as a man beat and sexually assaulted her, prosecutors in Minnesota said.

The surveillance video clearly showed men and women looking out their apartment doors or starting to walk down the hallway before retreating as the woman was assaulted for nearly 90 minutes, police spokesman Tom Walsh said.

Police said they responded to a call of drunken behavior and found Somali immigrant Rage Ibrahim, 25, and a woman lying unconscious in the hallway early Tuesday. The woman’s clothing had been pulled up and she had fresh scratches on her face and blood on her thigh, according to the criminal complaint.

The man says he’s innocent, and a local Somali group is already out speaking on his behalf. The victim has no such group to speak up for her.

Then there’s the cultural angle, which gets some time in a story at TwinCities.com.

The culture of many people who live in the apartment building also could have influenced witnesses’ behavior, said Omar Jamal, executive director of the Somali Justice Advocacy Center in St. Paul. A large number of Afton View apartment residents are Somalis, who tend to mistrust and fear the police, Jamal said.

“The only system they know (from Somalia) is a military, totalitarian government that tortures and executes people,” he said. “Their understanding is a system that oppresses and that kills. People have no rights. They are used to keeping quiet and not saying anything.”

Multiculturalism probably doesn’t have a good response to this.

Saw this on LFG earlier today. It makes me sick.

I’ve been wondering about that. All of the interviewed neighbors in the video I saw this morning were white.

Does Multiculturalism have an answer for anything?
E pluribus unum always worked for me.
Out of Many ONE.
Worked for 200 + years but I guess they thought it was broken.

Not to mention the lack of guts to confront bad people these days.

Allah Akhbar!!!!

Sounds like another episode of the Somali dating game.

What a coincidence that so much of this animal behavior seems to be illegal aliens and questionable Islamics from the sewers of planet Earth. All here to make the USA a sewer and vote Democratic.

Hening on August 24, 2007 at 3:51 PM

They should all be held accountable. Don’t they grow any MEN in somalia? Or is it just the spineless ones who come here.

Masscon on August 24, 2007 at 3:53 PM

People who watched this go on but did nothing will be judged in the end by someone who doesn’t follow the ‘innocent until proven guilty’ mantra.

This is disturbing - what would possess someone to not say or do anything?

Bad Candy on August 24, 2007 at 3:55 PM

Every time, here in MN, a Somali is involved in an issue with the law, he has NO courage to stand for himself. A Cultural and Justice representative of the Somali community always steps forward to speak for the perpetrator and almost always defends him. Then, court cases show, when found guilty nothing more is said. I find the Somali culture backwards , shamefully Islamic and extremely detrimental towards it’s treatment of women.

MNDavenotPC on August 24, 2007 at 3:55 PM

Yeah, I wonder about the “culural angle” also, as in, if the neighbors are predominantly Somalis, and muslim, then the woman was actually not assaulted at all but guilty herself of being a woman and probably deserved it. So why get involved…

Leonidas Hoplite on August 24, 2007 at 3:57 PM

Multiculturalism probably doesn’t have a good response to this.

This is multiculturalism and it is not “our” place to question or judge their culture. After all, who is to say that our culture is better than theirs?

Gene Splicer on August 24, 2007 at 3:57 PM

Somali immigrant Rage Ibrahim

In other words, black and probably muslim. Conveniently left out. Not surprising that his brethren came out to defend this kind of crime.

MadisonConservative on August 24, 2007 at 3:57 PM

What a bunch of crap! If they don’t want to call the cops to stop the assault, then they need to grow a pair and stop it themselves. Frankly, I don’t believe they are afraid of the police. If it was them or their family member getting assaulted, they would have 911 on speed dial.

Blake on August 24, 2007 at 3:58 PM

So welcome to America, and now you can stop fearing the police and military. That is what assimilation means.

Now, was he an illegal immigrant? If he was Geraldo gives him a free pass. He can rape all the women he wants, in the name of open borders.

Does Multiculturalism have an answer for anything?

It was in the late 1980s that you first started hearing the term multi-culture being used, e.g., I live in a multiculture neighborhood. It didn’t take long to figure out it really meant, I live in a high crime neighborhood, but if I call it something else, maybe getting mugged and burglarized won’t feel so bad.

Blake on August 24, 2007 at 4:01 PM

Gene Splicer on August 24, 2007 at 3:57 PM

I say our culture is better and we damn well have a right to question it within our borders!! And if this is multiculturalism trash it in the dung heap of history.

right2bright,

Exactly what I was thinking. This isn’t Somalia. Presumably they thought or knew things were better here, or they wouldn’t have come.

I watched the video of the aunt and if the deceased woman had the appearance of the aunt (some sort of addict), the bystanders might have thought that the niece was merely having a bad trip. That said, the fact that some woman steeped over the deceased four times, took her photo with a cell and didn’t call the police with the phone is disgusting.

In the land of the Andersons, the Johnsons, the Petersons, and the Larsons, this would not have happened.

Captain America on August 24, 2007 at 4:12 PM

Lovely, just freaking lovely.

Multiculturalism at its best.

The entire building of people must be investigated, their legal immigration status confirmed of immediate deportment.

The man who did that should be tried, convicted and thrown into prison.

No tolerance for this should be allowed.

How long until Geraldo starts chirping from his moustachioed beak about the racist coverage of this?

Welcome to the land of Dhimmitude. Brought to you by the Democrat Party and Liberalism.

Montana on August 24, 2007 at 4:14 PM

The common excuse of “that’s all they know” for such immigrants’ poor behavior is ridiculous. It’s not “all they know” if they’ve been in the United States for more than five minutes! It doesn’t take long, I would imagine, to notice the differences between the United States and freakin’ Somalia! They know better; they’re just hiding behind their “culture” because they’re cowards.

aero on August 24, 2007 at 4:15 PM

“A large number of Afton View apartment residents are Somalis, who tend to mistrust and fear the police, Jamal said.”

That’s no excuse. Even if they feared the police, they could have done something; and if they were also Somali, the race issue would not come into it. Part of me comes from a culture that used to distrust the police, but a man doing this kind of thing in the open would have been torn apart by an angry mob, because that culture did not tolerate drunken violence against women, at least outside the home. Perhaps, if the residents were immigrants, they thought that this kind of thing was normal in America.

I’m just waiting for some Rwandans to hack women and children to death - using machetes or, maybe, some garden implements - and then getting to hear the spokesman for the Rwandan Justice Advocacy Center say that “it’s the only system that they know …”

And, even worse, I can’t wait for our legal system to buy that crap … and incorporate the “it’s the only system that they know” defense. Why not? After all … immigrants are immigrants … and we must be understanding.

OhEssYouCowboys on August 24, 2007 at 4:20 PM

They were responding to criminal activity in a manner they were comfortable. Say nothing, do nothing and when confronted, lie.

Exactly what I was thinking. This isn’t Somalia. Presumably they thought or knew things were better here, or they wouldn’t have come.

mikeyboss on August 24, 2007 at 4:05 PM

It takes a very long time to over come ones previous environment. Especially when it was a traumatic as Somalia. The best thing for them would be to move to a neighborhood not inhabited by so many Somalis. This is a pretty difficult thing to accomplish when you first have to overcome a language barrier. So they must endure the same hardships as those they left behind until they are able to break that barrier. If they are here legally, then the local community should help them to assimilate. Judging by what I have seen so far they are just being victimized by the same people just in a different location. As they are ignorant of the US, their “friends” are controlling them in a manner they are familiar. Keeping them ignorant of their rights and in poverty. Scared to say anything because of their past experiences back in Somalia. Their only point of reference.

So…. (according to Somali muslims) a passenger with a bottle of booze can’t ride in the taxi of a Somali driver, but getting smashed and brutally raping a women while the neighbors watch is no problemo.

Great group of “newcomers” we’ve got there.

Normally I’d agree, but if she got stabbed bad enough that she died, there’s gotta be a copious amount of blood, right? I dunno, maybe, but still, it took way too long before someone did something.

Bad Candy on August 24, 2007 at 5:14 PM

Mosques are plenty, churches are plenty, graveyards are plenty, but morals and whiskey are scarce. The Koran does not permit Mohammedans to drink. Their natural instinct does not permit them to be moral.

Next up, the woman will be quietly murdered by her family as part of an honor killing since she brought shame to them by getting herself raped.

Else, it won’t be long till Sharia Law comes to St. Paul

Kini on August 24, 2007 at 5:36 PM

said Omar Jamal, executive director of the Somali Justice Advocacy Center in St. Paul….

So exactly how bad does this have to get before we close the mosques and stop importing these freaks? Are the savages who didn’t actually rape her considered “moderates”?

JWS on August 24, 2007 at 5:58 PM

Then there’s the cultural angle, which gets some time in a story at TwinCities.com.

So, OK, maybe they do fear the police, but what does that have to do with stepping outside and stopping the rape?

Esthier on August 24, 2007 at 6:04 PM

Zaire
BS They know when they came here it’s a far better world than what they left… help them assimilate? How far do we bend over backwards?…. Give them charter schools? We did. Allow them to wear the draconian women’s wear they do? We did. Offer them assistance for housing and jobs? We did. Scared of our system and culture? Give me a freaking break. You either accept our culture and our laws or leave. Hmmm I don’t see a flood of Somalis at the airport. Wonder why?

MNDavenotPC on August 24, 2007 at 7:04 PM

Zackly. And Zaire’s way of “thinking” is why islam has any chance at all of imposing it’s will on us. We’ve raised a whole generation of mush headed idiots who know nothing else but “everything and everyone is equal! - except Christianity and the White man are bad!”. They don’t even know enough to save themselves…

Stand by, watch a rape, do nothing.

Someone give me their “human being” cards, I’m gonna tear ‘em up.

This kind of thing always royally pisses me off. I mean, really, really pissed. Someone needs to beat the crap out of all those “witnesses” while they scream for help to an uncaring mob.

At the very least, publish all their pictures with SHAME written above them.

Oh, and Zaire67 - the brutal fact is that sometimes, all you know and all you are is simply not adequate, as in this case. Frankly, we don’t need any more passive helpless cowering idiots, we have plenty here already.

Merovign on August 24, 2007 at 10:51 PM

If the ‘witnesses’ were all Muslim, I’m actually surprised they just walked by and ignored it.

I’d expect them to join in the fun.

Gang rape seems to be an Islamic specialty, going back to Big Mo himself.

There was a time in this country when rapists were hung. Not always with what the ACLU would consider due process.

Everything old is new again.

ticticboom on August 25, 2007 at 12:06 AM

Terrible of them, they should be ashamed of themselves. This guy is also fairly slight of build and NOT tall…there is no excuse of people to come upon him half naked with his dingaling exposed..and not to have done something to him to take him out until the police got there.

Shameful.
