Certain films are worthy of an attempted re-make if they are horribly outdated or just weren’t that good with to begin with.

The original Halloween is not one of them. It is still a classic.

Some notable re-make disasters in my opinion:
Psycho
Rollerball (c’mon Allah you know you loved that one)
The Omen
Fun with Dick and Jane

The list could go on and on….

Does anyone actually have an example of a good re-make?

See, now I have a quite differnt take on Rob Zombie and his horror movies.

House of 100 corpses was great. It was just differnt, and a homage to older horror movies. Weird camera angles, lots of use of color, etc.

Devil’s rejects was a cop out. It had storyline elements that just turned into filler (the whole bit about their names. what purpose was there to that?). The characters all took a nosedive and mellowed out quite a deal. All in all it’s like he went mainstream instead of the differnt sort of movie before that no one wanted to carry.

I just hope Halloween isn’t a cop out. The original one was differnt. It never came off as a slasher flick. I have this feeling based on devil’s rejects that the remake of Halloween will turn out to be just another slasher flick.

House of 1000 Corpses could’ve been awesome but it took waaaaaay too long to get going and it was just stange throughout most of the movie. When it did finally get going it was spooky in a way but that wasn’t until about 45 or so minutes into it IMO. It didn’t have the usual ending for most horror movies which was knd of cool though.

The Devil’s Rejects was alot more fun to watch in a sadistic way that is. It’s one of those movies you sort of feel guilty about liking because it’s so gruesome. The fall of the “hero” to become what he’s fighting against in order to have a fighting chance against the “ejects’ was well done though.

As for Halloween, I don’t know. Sometimes horror moves are really well done and entertaining but sometimes it’s just death and torture porn and it just makes me sick. It’s strange that I have such mixed feelings about these type of movies. I know they’re just movies but sometimes they just turn me off in a bad way. There’s enough death and suffering in the real world that I sometimes don’t feel the need to be entertained by it on the big screen. I go to movies to escape reality for an hour and a half and often times the last thing that escape I’m looking for needs is to watch a dozen or so people get brutally killed.

Ah well, enough rambling from me.

I am going to see this opening night. I’m a huge fan of Zombie and his movies were pretty decent for the budget he had to work with. This one looks like a homage to the original not just another crappy remake/sequel.

Zombie actually did remix the Halloween theme for this, didn’t screw it up too bad. ;)

When I saw House of 1000 corpses, I filed a class action suit against Zombie. He owes us all $8 and 90 minutes of our lives.

The problem with Zombie is that though he understands good horror direction, his scripts glorify the villians so much you’d think an angry 15 year old emo kid wrote them to get back at all the people who bullied him. Maybe with someone else script he’ll do better.

I’ll probably see it but I agree with the above posting, the original has pretty much stood the test of time and has always been one of the actual few “quality” slasher flicks so I am not sure why this has to be redone. I’m sure it will be fun anyways, it’s not like there are a lot of quality new flicks coming out these days.

The guy hasn’t ever brought four minutes of scary in fifteen years of songwriting. Why start now?

I just think its funny that the remake comes only a few years after the last film in the original series.

House of 1000 Corpses was excellent. Zombie really knows how to get that ’70’s drive-in horror movie type feel, which was the best times for horror movies i think. I’ll definitely be seeing it, should be good.
