Video: “Halloween” trailer

I wasn’t planning on seeing it, but I’ve got to say, this looks as good as KP did back before she went insane. Can I trust Rob Zombie to deliver 90 minutes of teh scary, though? I haven’t seen his other films but he seems a little too intent in interviews on communicating how ineffably dark he is, which is wankerish in precisely the same slightly desperate Goth-ish way that Marilyn Manson is.

I’ll probably go, but only if I can’t find a screening of “Mr. Bean’s Holiday”. And anyone who starts shinola with me about that is banned. For life.

Update: I will be there.

I’ll give Rob Zombie credit where it’s due. Both “House of 1000 Corpses” and “The Devil’s Rejects” managed to be entertaining despite a lack of substance or motive behind the character’s evil acts, because the characters themselves were amusing.

I’m hoping for a bit more substance from this one. Malcolm McDowell is in it, so that’s a huge plus for me.

Hawkins1701 on August 23, 2007 at 9:49 PM

I am not looking forward to it, myself. Of course, in the opinion of anyone with taste, the original Halloween was the death of horror movies. The final straw for them ran around in a William Shatner mask painted silver.(That’s right. The mask was a William Shatner mask the filmmaker bought at a dime store)

But, Zombie will make it even worse, I’ll bet. His other two films were absolute dreck and I cannot imagine this one will be any better.

Dude… Totally tubular…
Tubular bells that is…
(Yeah, I know, that was Exorcist)
But is Rob Zombie gonna re-mix the original John Carpenter Theme song?
THAT might even make it worth the price O’ admission!

Rob Zombie – Awesome muscian, pretty bad film director. Dude is still all kinds of cool, though :D

Touchy, AP. Sure, Rob Z will give you teh gross-out but it won’t have the wit of the original. And, more importantly, it won’t have P.J. Soles.

I saw the “special preview” of this movie at the San Diego Comic Con…he’s a terribly boring guy, but the movie looks pretty solid. He has a good eye for shooting…the only problem with the forum I attended is Rob Zombie fans are by all standards…retards. No real interesting questions at the forum…instead “Rob you rock!” and “Rob, your wife is hot” (which she is…Good Lord she is). I can’t wait for this movie…

StoutRepublican on August 23, 2007 at 9:59 PM

Let’s not forget what the last Halloween movie without Jamie Lee Curtis was like:

Happy Happy Halloween…Silver Shamrock.

WastelandMan on August 23, 2007 at 9:56 PM

That I would like to hear. As for watching this . . .always slept through these kinds of things. I was always more into things like Silence of the Lambs and Kiss the Girls.

I won’t go see it. I saw “Psycho” at the age of 8 when I decided to sneak out of bed late at night to watch some TV.

I STILL can’t sleep with my bedroom door open.

GoodBoy on August 23, 2007 at 10:06 PM

Looks good, but these movies are supposed to have lots of gratuitous T&A, so the trailer leaves me a little underwhelmed.

RW Wacko on August 23, 2007 at 10:08 PM

I’ve always dug the Halloween series, even that weird ass Halloween 3 with the evil Irish toy company.

So yeah, I’ll probably go. Even if Rob Zombie’s flicks weird me out.

That movie messed me up too.

BadgerHawk on August 23, 2007 at 10:46 PM

House of 1000 Corpses was excellent. Zombie really knows how to get that ’70’s drive-in horror movie type feel, which was the best times for horror movies i think. I’ll definitely be seeing it, should be good.

Allright! A preview button. Hot Air is movin’ up in the world!

Well we know now what Allah is going as this Halloween.

Limerick on August 23, 2007 at 10:57 PM

The original “Halloween” still holds up remarkably well. I’m not sure I see the point of a remake.

Blacklake on August 23, 2007 at 11:42 PM

Why would you re-do something that can’t be improved upon?

Go Mr. Bean!

Blacklake on August 23, 2007 at 11:42 PM

I just think its funny that the remake comes only a few years after the last film in the original series.

Isn’t it about time they remade Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace.

It good, but a Blackadder movie would be better use of Mr. Atkinson’s time.

The guy hasn’t ever brought four minutes of scary in fifteen years of songwriting. Why start now?

I haven’t seen his other films–

Okay, let me stop you right there. I did see them… so you will never have to. Consider it my personal sacrifice so that you can see the Mr. Bean movie.

ScottMcC on August 23, 2007 at 11:53 PM

I’ll probably see it but I agree with the above posting, the original has pretty much stood the test of time and has always been one of the actual few “quality” slasher flicks so I am not sure why this has to be redone. I’m sure it will be fun anyways, it’s not like there are a lot of quality new flicks coming out these days.

Have either of you watched “psycho 4: the beginning”?

No gore, but it’s Norman’s childhood and what his mom did to him. Gads, it was eerie.

Mazztek on August 24, 2007 at 1:23 AM

William Shatner’s greatest role!

Irenaeus on August 24, 2007 at 3:31 AM

When I saw House of 1000 corpses, I filed a class action suit against Zombie. He owes us all $8 and 90 minutes of our lives.

The problem with Zombie is that though he understands good horror direction, his scripts glorify the villians so much you’d think an angry 15 year old emo kid wrote them to get back at all the people who bullied him. Maybe with someone else script he’ll do better.

Rob Taylor on August 24, 2007 at 4:36 AM

Zombie actually did remix the Halloween theme for this, didn’t screw it up too bad. ;)

As far as AP’s question about the guy delivering, count on it.

Yeah, baby! They do have a Blackadder Millenium Anniversary Special called Blackadder Back and Forth.

Brilliant!

I wholeheartedly agree.

madne0 on August 24, 2007 at 6:32 AM

Yes, yes, yes! Bean is hilarious, but Blackadder is so much more so, I can’t begin to describe… not so much “family fare”, though.

Frozen Tex on August 24, 2007 at 8:37 AM

I am going to see this opening night. I’m a huge fan of Zombie and his movies were pretty decent for the budget he had to work with. This one looks like a homage to the original not just another crappy remake/sequel.

saltydogg14 on August 24, 2007 at 9:07 AM

House of 1000 Corpses could’ve been awesome but it took waaaaaay too long to get going and it was just stange throughout most of the movie. When it did finally get going it was spooky in a way but that wasn’t until about 45 or so minutes into it IMO. It didn’t have the usual ending for most horror movies which was knd of cool though.

The Devil’s Rejects was alot more fun to watch in a sadistic way that is. It’s one of those movies you sort of feel guilty about liking because it’s so gruesome. The fall of the “hero” to become what he’s fighting against in order to have a fighting chance against the “ejects’ was well done though.

As for Halloween, I don’t know. Sometimes horror moves are really well done and entertaining but sometimes it’s just death and torture porn and it just makes me sick. It’s strange that I have such mixed feelings about these type of movies. I know they’re just movies but sometimes they just turn me off in a bad way. There’s enough death and suffering in the real world that I sometimes don’t feel the need to be entertained by it on the big screen. I go to movies to escape reality for an hour and a half and often times the last thing that escape I’m looking for needs is to watch a dozen or so people get brutally killed.

Ah well, enough rambling from me.

Nosferightu on August 23, 2007 at 11:47 PM

Would it be possible to un-make it?

Blacklake on August 24, 2007 at 10:57 AM

See, now I have a quite differnt take on Rob Zombie and his horror movies.

House of 100 corpses was great. It was just differnt, and a homage to older horror movies. Weird camera angles, lots of use of color, etc.

Devil’s rejects was a cop out. It had storyline elements that just turned into filler (the whole bit about their names. what purpose was there to that?). The characters all took a nosedive and mellowed out quite a deal. All in all it’s like he went mainstream instead of the differnt sort of movie before that no one wanted to carry.

I just hope Halloween isn’t a cop out. The original one was differnt. It never came off as a slasher flick. I have this feeling based on devil’s rejects that the remake of Halloween will turn out to be just another slasher flick.

LordDaMan on August 24, 2007 at 11:08 AM

Would it be possible to un-make it?

Blacklake on August 24, 2007 at 10:57 AM

YES! We must unlearn what we have learned. Maybe the last three films were a means for Lucas to communicate this greater truth.

Nosferightu on August 24, 2007 at 11:13 AM

Rob Zombie’s Halloween will be great.
Mr. Bean will shine-hopefully it will be as funny as Johnny English.
Blend them together and you have:

Doug on August 24, 2007 at 11:41 AM

Certain films are worthy of an attempted re-make if they are horribly outdated or just weren’t that good with to begin with.

The original Halloween is not one of them. It is still a classic.

Some notable re-make disasters in my opinion:
Psycho
Rollerball (c’mon Allah you know you loved that one)
The Omen
Fun with Dick and Jane

The list could go on and on….

Does anyone actually have an example of a good re-make?
