The analysis is the piece is all wrong, so here’s mine.

There’s hope for Mr. Tennis. We become our parents! I find myself saying a lot of the same corny things that Dad says. My Dad and I didn’t get along real well there for awhile when I was a young adult, but I finally came around. What is that quote my Dad says. If you are young and conservative, there’s something wrong with your heart. If you grow older and are still liberal, there’s something wrong with your head! Something like that. My Dad’s a pretty smart guy!

Thank you MTV and Ms.Paisley in 3rd period. Ya did a good job for the ‘peeples’.

I don’t have any Republican friends. I don’t like to talk to Republicans mostly. I find them ignorant of other cultures, and smug — feeling that our country is the best in the world — period.

I’ve actually travelled quite a bit. and you know what? It is the best damn country in the world, and that by a long shot.

Oh, and I don’t have Republican friends because they’re smug. Riiiight.

Ya know, some of the most literally useless, ignorant, arrogant, elitist gasbags I know are loud and proud ‘progressives’.

They have no idea what they’re actually looking at when they look into a mirror.

They have unquestioning belief in the True Faith they hear endlessly repeated from the media and their leftist heroes. They believe what they are expected to believe with no further thought.

Very cult and tribe-like; the exact thing they acuse the ‘religious right’ of being.

I wonder, how do you fix ignorance like that? Time? And with some, like the ones who’ve been doing this stupid crap since the 60s, even time doesn’t help. So what, then? An ever-growing percentage of ‘infected’?

I really believe our Country’s smarter than that. I sure hope so, anyway.

I cannot love my parents any more! So I’m going home to my apartment on the West Side and watch a “Sex in the City” marathon and drink wine spritzers while they put the animals in the barn and get to bed early to wake up at 4:00 Am to milk the animals and to pay off the equity loan they used on the farm to pay for my 5-year Journalism degree. Boo hoo! I’m so upset I can’t even use punctuation! *sobs*

Remember, not all people become conservative as they age. My father was conservative as a younger man, but now at 75, he has become a socialist. At his birthday party, he was mentioning how important it is that corporations pay high taxes, and that without such high taxation, Marxism would be the way to go.

When is my father going to “grow up”?

The gratitude displayed by this person is underwhelming. Children like this make a case for post natal abortion. Were Bush truly a Nazi, scum like this and the limp wristed effete people who indoctrinated him into newthink would have been eliminated by now. But then, that is a tactic of the left. If they don’t agree with you, it is ok to hate them. I suggest the idiot move to a peoples paradise like Cuba or Chavez land.

I can’t deal with Salon’s freaky ad scheme.

TheSitRep on August 24, 2007 at 6:36 AM

As a father of kids who don’t agree with me politically, I’ll add that it’s the responsibility of the parents to engage their kids civilly and respectfully, without trying to force them into agreement. The parents need to explain why they believe what they do and to raise questions for the kids to answer about their own views. Civilly and respectfully toward the kids. I suspect there’s blame at both ends in this case.

Attila (Pillage Idiot) on August 24, 2007 at 7:54 AM

Here lies the problem with our future. The failure to recognize and admit this is the greatest country on earth-period. The second our majority starts to doubt this fact is the beginning of the end for us. Our society is now teaching that it is wrong to be proud, patriotic and yes, I’ll even say, arrogant, about our greatness. This is going to be our downfall.

rayvet on August 24, 2007 at 8:03 AM

If you are young and conservative, there’s something wrong with your heart. If you grow older and are still liberal, there’s something wrong with your head!

This statement is drawn from a quote commonly ascribed to Winston Churchill, though many (all liberals I’m sure) question the attribution.

To be conservative at 20 is heartless and to be a liberal at 60 is plain idiocy.

I was more disheartened by the response letters.

The one on the last page was most depressing. Someone who says they “miss dialogue with conservatives” and then asks out loud if there are any righty blogs she could go to.

Obviously, such a person is not actually interested because they have never even searched.

Only a Salon.com letter writer could call the people at Salon “amazing” and talk about “the range of tolerance.” Most of them are all a homogeneous group lodged in far-left groupthink. There’s a not one among them who will not equate Bush with Hitler or comdemn Fox News as the source of their problems.

There’s a reason it’s called Salon.com: It’s the internet equivalent of the location where rich white liberals get their hair done and nod their heads together in unison over the accepted gossip of the day.

Yea, well my dads intelligence followed a very odd bell curve, when I was very young from about the age of 5 up until the age of 10 he was the smartest man I knew, strangely though the closer I got to 17 the stupider he got, then as I approached 25 he just kept getting smarter and smarter. I was 35 when he died and oddly enough by that time he was once again one of the smartest men that I ever knew.

It’s damn amazing how $hit like that happens…

I guess since I “had no heart” when I was young, I always considered my parents to be brilliant.

I would quote them at school at 15. Bad age for that.

When other kids would snark “Do you always listen to your parents?” I’d snark back “Well, they’ve got more experience than you…you’re 15. What the f* do you know???”

Speaking as a young conservative, young conservatives are only heartless when you consider we don’t feel more for protected minority groups than we do for everyone else. Liberals call that a “compassion gap,” and they propose we fix it by promoting government funding to assuage said victim groups.
