Video: Shamnesty opponent calls Geraldo “racist against the American citizen”

I’m going to be semi-nice to Geraldo this time, partly because he doesn’t deserve the nonsense spewed at him here, partly because I grudgingly admire his willingness to go on the air and take a beating on this issue day after day, and partly because he’s scheduled to face off with Tancredo tonight on H&C so I want to reserve the vitriol for later.

Watch the clip and see if you recognize his sparring partner. Hint: she embarrassed herself once before on Fox. And now, between recycling the lie about his birth name and accusing him of being “racist” against Americans — surely the goofiest utterance on this subject since KP’s insistence the other night that most illegal aliens are “law-abiding citizens” — she’s embarrassed herself again. As for Geraldo’s whining about hateful, incendiary rhetoric, cry me a river, mustache.

Plus, she’s right about Phoenix being a sanctuary city.

As pre-game for H&C, be sure to read MM’s post about the grandmother who recently buried her daughter, son-in-law, and two-year-old grandson after they were killed by an illegal alien drunk driver with a rap sheet. If Hannity doesn’t bring it up, hopefully Tancredo will. Not that he needs any emboldening, but he’s flying high lately as it is as Rudy, Romney, and McCain compete to see which of them can sound the most Tancredo-esque. Meanwhile, Coulter’s new column weighs in on Elvira Arellano. I’m not sure if I’m happy or alarmed that she leads with a point I made myself a few days ago.

Exit question free advice for Geraldo: if Tancredo comes after you, hit him in his soft spot. Click the image to watch.

Oh, please! He gets paid to do this. And the more controversial he is, the more he gets asked to appear, and the more money he makes. And i bet he gets free iPhones, too.

She’s a terrible spokesperson. They put her on Bulls & Bears and 6 people ganged up on her calling her a racist even though she made no such comments. So I can understand her being touchy but she played right into Geraldo’s hands. I wish she’d stay the heck off TV. She’s not helping the cause (which is why they put her on).

TheBigOldDog on August 22, 2007 at 7:56 PM

The link to snopes confirms that the name on his birth certificate is Gerald, and that he agreed to be henceforth known as Geraldo when the guy who originally hired him at ABC New York needed a Puerto Rican name for his news show.

On the charge of changing his name for purposes of ethnic pandering-GUILTY!

Bob Mc on August 22, 2007 at 7:57 PM

Ohh Puulease!! He is a phoney and deserves everything he gets!! I refuse to watch Fox when he is on.

I didn’t read the whole paragraph.

dc84123 on August 22, 2007 at 8:01 PM

I think Snopes erred in labeling the “Jerry Rivers” thing as false.

His birth name was Gerald Riviera. “When I was born, my mother filled in the birth certificate with the name Gerald Riviera….”

“… as one would expect, friends took to calling him by the less formal “‘erry’…”

Changing it to Geraldo was in fact Geraldo’s suggestion to his first TV news boss, Al Primo’s, desire to have a Puerto Rican presence on his news team:

“‘If you want something more latin, my father and his side of the family call me Geraldo.”

I believe he was also on Hannity’s radio show… he seems to be desperate to make sure everyone knows he’s a complete idiot, so he continues to make the rounds, responding to stories of illegal aliens killing people, saying it’s not an immigration issue, while ignoring the fact that these people would be alive today if the laws were enforced.

Anyway, I don’t listen to Hannity’s show (or anyone’s really), but I happened to be getting out of my car and had flipped the station just as he was introducing him and talking about the disagreement they were about to have (and noting that Geraldo will apparently be attending the 9/11 Freedom Concert). I’m not sure why Sean would invite this ass, but whatever…. I really just can’t understand why Geraldo is determined to go anywhere he can to embarrass himself on this immigration thing.

FWIW, I don’t often call him “Gerry Rivers”, but I have before… I never knew there was any sort of conspiracy theory behind it, or that anyone really thought this was his name, I just thought it was a mocking nickname people used against him until I saw it brought up here a while back.

RightWinged on August 22, 2007 at 8:10 PM

As for Tancredo’s soft spot, last night on Special Report they had a segment showing the new “highways” to allegedly be built transversing North America. I’d love to know what group came up with that.

It’s as if they don’t realize there already are roads in place that can get you from Mexico to Canada, albeit not necessarily direct.

JammieWearingFool on August 22, 2007 at 8:11 PM

Geraldo can has sympathies from Allah?

VolMagic on August 22, 2007 at 8:12 PM

I’m convinced that Geraldo is taking this position just to get more airtime. He is on every TV and radio show that will have him. If he thinks it is going to help the ratings for his own show, he is crazy.

recycling the lie about his birth name

He did change his name. He was born with Gerald Riviera and changed it to Geraldo Rivera.

And about his point that calling him a racist is hate speech, that would mean he’s guilty of hate speech all the time because he’s constantly calling people racists.

jaime on August 22, 2007 at 8:28 PM

What is it with you Allah?

Exit question free advice for Geraldo

How about giving advice to Tancredo? He after all respects the rule of law while Geraldo does not. Why would you give aid to Geraldo over Tancredo? Is this a sanctuary site?

I believe Fox New is setting a trap for Tancredo. Putting him on with such an incendiary flame thrower like Geraldo can only take this encounter into the fringe realm and make Tancredo look fringe by default of him just being near The Mustache. I believe Fox News does this for the same reason you give him no respect time and again. Both of you don’t see him as a “winning” horse, even though the candidates you do support aren’t even true conservatives and them winning is no win for conservative America.

When it comes to Tancredo, you’re just as bad as the liberal main stream media I shouted at for years; masking personal opinions inside an illusion of objectivity.

bucktowndusty on August 22, 2007 at 8:31 PM

Down here in Texas they are already building the Trans Texan Corridor. You can find a link to a man who has written a book about it on Mike Gallagher’s web-site. The man’s name is Mr. Corsi. Mr Corsi was at the meeting in Canada and said that all the sessions were kept secret from the journalists except when they had photo ops. The leaders of Canada, Mexico and the US were the ones at the meeting. I’m not sure about the NAU yet, but the highway is being built here in Texas. In my area they are still squabbling over exactly where it should go, but there is no doubt that it is going to come through the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex or very close by.

Hey AllahPundit! Guess what Geraldo found in Al Capone’s vault. Yeah. That’s right. He found iPhones. Millions of ‘em.

My collie says:

Shh! Don’t tell AP that you can get’em for free. It’s a secret.

CyberCipher on August 22, 2007 at 8:35 PM

Brittany Spears shows up in the news a lot too!

I want to believe Geraldo has it together, but seeing him avoid the real issue and accuse everyone of being racists…

I have no begruding respect for that.

And if he wasn’t on TV doing this, he wouldn’t be on TV.

Montana on August 22, 2007 at 8:41 PM

One of the criteria that makes a state a state is being able to defend It’s own border. If a country fails to do that which is the most basic thing that defines it as a country it ceases to be a country. Mark my words, with in fifty years California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas are going to be the northern most states of Mexico. What is sickening, it will be by consent on both sides.

P.S. She may be right, but she is a terrible spokesperson for the cause.

TheSitRep on August 22, 2007 at 8:45 PM

Regarding the link to snopes…

While I generally find snopes to be fairly accurate when debunking viral emails and rumors, they do have a political agenda. I have seen some anti-Israel/pro-Palestinian stuff, as well as global warming enthusiasm.

Most people get no further than the True/False line, but you’d be surprised what you might find if you read the whole article, particularly on politically charged items.

Michelle of M A I I is Michelle lite. It is obvious Geraldo is playing to his audience by feigning indination at the coarse rhetoric some people are using in the immigration debate. He seems to be building a case to justify civil unrest, also regulating the free speech we enjoy. I can see him now testifying in front of a Congressional committee. Instead of pushing for ammnesty he should be railing against the governments of Latin America. The facts alone are enough to win the debate against illegal immigration without the emotional outbursts. Keep Geraldo honest by not reacting to the sence of entitlement he and the likes of La Raza exude. There is a blood stained battlefeild at Gettysburg that says different! Geraldo is clinging to straws to remain relevant in todays media market. He sure isn’t a jourmalist. He’s more of an advocate/showman. In this time of great possibilities good or bad this country needs a more realistic perspective than Geraldo offers.

JWS on August 22, 2007 at 9:44 PM

Geraldo keeps acting like the problem with illegal immigrants coming into this problem is no big deal. I hate to say it, but Hey Geraldo, if there happens to be another 9/11, and they find out it was caused by people who entered into this country illegally, it is going to become a very big deal, especially when people start pointing at you as one of the people who said it wasn’t a big deal.

JWS on August 22, 2007 at 9:59 PM

Why does Gerald keep doing it?

#1. He gets paid.

#2. He’s an attention whore.

#3. This is his only chance to win an argument against someone named Michelle on Fox News for the forseeable future.

Beware the Internet!

For 10 years now, I’ve been championing the Internet.

As a pioneer in the New Media, I believe it has provided a leveling of the playing field for entrepreneurs like me to provide good content to millions efficiently and inexpensively.

But, I’ve got to tell you, you can’t believe everything you read on the Internet.

You’ve got to use common sense and discernment in sorting out the good from the bad.

(Column continues below)

Today, I’m going to give you two illustrations of “the bad.”

They are, in alphabetical order, Snopes and Wikipedia.

I know. I know. Some of you are shocked to hear Snopes is not the last word on truth – that it is not the bible of rumors and urban legends.

Let me give you a recent example of the twisted sense of reality that exists in the land of Snopes….

H&C is unwatchable. Every time they have Geraldo on he simply filibusters and shouts over guests who disagree with him. It gets him airtime on Fox and talk shows like Laura Ingraham but it also destroys whatever credibility he has. After 9/11 he was doing a good job rebuilding his rep (for the most part) and he’s now thrown it all away.

TheBigOldDog on August 22, 2007 at 10:02 PM

Enough of Geraldo, seems to me that in this immigration issue
the Right are running on logic, sneak across the fence, break the law, your sent back, and rightly so.
The Left is always been emotional ,there FEELINGS.
So they broke the law,but what about the mother and the
child…..Duh,they broke the law.
Trying to talk to the left is like talking to a brick wall, and that is Geraldo.

I hope Geraldo enjoyed the spew, he richly deserves every bit of the turn abouts fair play smack talk.

I doubt very seriously he learns anything but I did like his being called a racist on national TV even if it was off the wall.

I wish Fox would put a shock collar on him so he could be made to shut up when adults are trying to talk.

She doesn’t do this for money, she does it for Moms and kids. AMERICAN KIDS.
Arizona is so overwhelmed by illegals, the schools are near ruined, the hospitals are broke, and the illegals are in every nook and cranny creating the mess and the invasion we all talk about daily… And the American kids? They are losing out. MAIA is trying to do something.
At least she’s got the guts to stand up and say it.
Give her a break, ESPECIALLY when she’s up against the hateful bigoted Gerald/Sidney Riviera.

Geraldo is upholding the right of America to commit cultural suicide.

That doesn’t make him a “racist” but a cultural-genocidalist.

He wishes to supplant the last, best hope for human liberty with yet another crapulous, Balkanized, corrupt Third World-ocracy.

But he sure yells loud.

The real work on the NAU is done in the working groups. Bush & his international colleagues probably have the same grasp of the working groups as Bush had for his Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill, which might best be described as tenuous.

Meanwhile, Coulter’s new column weighs in on Elvira Arellano. I’m not sure if I’m happy or alarmed that she leads with a point I made myself a few days ago.

Egads, AP, why do you ALWAYS have to apply a negative tilt with regards to Coulter. You know she’s right, even if you don’t like how she says what she says. Whether you like it or not, she’s on our side, and that’s a good thing, given her ability to cut through the fat and expose the red meat.

The Democratic Party is in the fight of its life against a conservative demographic trend. Its only hope is to gerrymander America to make the poorest half of Mexico a state. Only a massive influx of criminals, wards of the state and rioters can save them.

This is why Democrats are obsessed with giving two groups the right to vote: illegal aliens and felons. With Arellano, they get two for the price of one. To liberals, building a wall across the Mexican border is a violation of the Voting Rights Act.

Nobody fires a shot like that at the left better than Ann. Be glad that her mind isn’t on the left. She wouldn’t be a joke, like Rosie or Maher, she’d be a deep, poisoned thorn in the side.

But you’d rather have a halo of PC, and stand on the “high ground”, from which you can look down your nose at the boorish, undisciplined, non-PC Coulter.

It’s preferable if we stick to attacking enemies, and not our allies in the political arena.

Freelancer on August 23, 2007 at 10:05 AM

The birth name accusation isn’t completely a lie. My parents went to college with him and knew him as Jerry Rivers, so take that for what it’s worth.

CorinthianJest on August 23, 2007 at 10:42 AM

I’ve found too many inconsistancies on Snopes to take what it says at face value. A simple check of his birth certificate would settle the issue but that wasn’t done by Snopes. As a matter of fact, the article appears to have used Jerry himself as its only source.
