Two videos for you to illustrate the bizarre coexistence of modern western and fundamentalist cultures in Iran. The first clip is your daily shot of hope: a look at Iran’s metal scene, which somehow incorporates Kiss, Tupac, and Ziggy-Stardust-era Bowie hair. They’re just like us — or rather, they’re just like us but even cheesier. Possibly the most moderate Muslims you’ll ever see.
The second clip is self-explanatory and warrants a strong content warning. Click the images to watch.

They say metal but don’t mention a single metal band. Also, you will NEVER see a guy in the states at a metal show with hair like that.
Want good middle-eastern metal? Orphaned Land is a metal band from Israel and deffinantly deserve a listen.

The hangings were presumably for taking the law into their own hands…instead of letting the thought police of the Mosque mete out punishment for crimes. I guess this is their way of trying to reduce the number of honor killings and crimes of vengeance.

I seem to remember at the time something about their “Western-style” hair and clothing having something to do with it.
I’d like to believe there was more to it; I think they were arrested for demonstrating as well, but the state played up their “American” look as a warning.

Those hair styles are more emo than metal.
And emo sucks.
If they REALLY wanted to show how evil heavy metal is, they could have shown video of some Norwegian black metal guys burning down a Catholic church…but then, they probably agree with that, so instead they show Kiss. How lame. Show some video of Deicide, who are professed satanists. Instead they show a band that’s more classic rock than metal. Whatever. But hey, what do I know? I only play lead guitar in a thrash band.

Yes, it should be there, but it also says a lot about what a bunch of p*ssies we are in this ongoing conflict. This is what they do to their own people, and yet Kerry and Rosie et al call us the real terrorists (nude pyramids, you know).
I forced myself to watch some video of Saddam’s Greatest Hits, and let’s just say they weren’t flying kites.

That’s not EMO, it is more mainstream metal/hard rock and metrosexual mixed in. EMO kids have their hair down over the face, covering one eye or whatever.

KISS, by the way, remain the Hottest Band in the Wolrd!!!! Although I never associated them with devil worship or homosexuality….(ew.) every KISS concert I went to had bras and panties raining on the stage.
