Tivo alert: Truther waterloo at 9 p.m. ET? Clip added

posted at 8:30 pm on August 20, 2007 by Allahpundit
Send to a Friend | Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

The title is banal but the synopsis is very, very promising:

Examines the various conspiracy theories espoused on the Internet, in articles and in public forums that attempt to explain the 9/11 attacks. It includes theories that the World Trade Center was brought down by a controlled demolition; that a missile, not a commercial airliner, hit the Pentagon; and that members of the U.S. government orchestrated the attacks in hopes of creating a war in the Middle East. Each conspiracy argument is countered by a variety of experts in the fields of engineering, intelligence and the military. The program also delves into the anatomy of such conspiracies and how they grow on the Internet.

This is the least they could do, really, after poisoning the well in Australia last year.

If you’re watching, consider this an open thread for comments. Read this, too, before you tune in. It’ll make you feel all glowy inside.

Update (BP): THC’s two-hour show was basically the video version of Popular Mechanics’ superb debunking of all things related to the Troofers, and will on that basis alone be rejected by those obnoxious half-wits who produced Loose Change and all their various acolytes, parasites and fellow travelers. The bulk of Truthers are neither intelligent enough, honest enough nor brave to confront the reality that 9-11 brought to our shores: Jihadists bent on destroying our way of life in order to bring out a global caliphate are capable of and willing to kill thousands of our citizens while they work, play and fly off to vacations or visit family. These jihadists can only be appeased by our blood.

The fact is, Truthers are impotent in the face of 9-11 and the world it exposed. Truthers can’t deal with that day, and they can’t understand it on its own, so they have to rewrite it. This clip ought to become an anti-Truther nugget posted far and wide. It perfectly diagnoses their narcissistic mental illness.

Update: Captain Ed ID’s the silliest moment from the program. I agree, and will cut the clip tomorrow.

Update (BP): Yup, I laughed out loud at that one too. Anyone who says what Jones said about Galileo does not deserve to be taken seriously when he says anything else on any subject, including reciting the spelling of his own name. He’s a moron.

Ah, History Channel time!

Lehosh on August 20, 2007 at 8:34 PM

They could have videos of the Arab guys packing dynomite in the lobby and it was a Bush Conspiracy in their minds. They will the say the video is fake. It isn’t what happened it is BDS.

StuLongIsland on August 20, 2007 at 8:42 PM

Too bad we can’t inform Rosie it’s on, or Ron Paul.

Limerick on August 20, 2007 at 8:42 PM

This might be good THC has done a good job debunking the Kennedy and Moon landing conspiracies so this should nail the “Truthers” real good…It’s really too bad Rosie off the air…it might of been fun to see or hear her reaction to it.

mlong on August 20, 2007 at 8:42 PM

OT: AP I hope you captured KP saying US citizenship is a human right!

TheBigOldDog on August 20, 2007 at 8:43 PM

truthers haven’t accepted reality yet. why would they now?

lorien1973 on August 20, 2007 at 8:47 PM

Been looking forward to this show…but “truthers” really don’t care for truth.

OT a little: Mark Dice meets Danny Bonaduce a second time…

JetBoy on August 20, 2007 at 8:50 PM

When it comes to the “truthers” it’s like that poster in Agent Mulder’s office from the x-files, “I want to believe”. These idiots want to believe their crackpot conspiracy theories no matter the evidence aganst them.

From the horror and terror of that day in the first few minutes….to these outlandish theories is a change in direction my brain is having a hard time dealing with.

“I’m not sure that flight 93 actually existed”

uh….what?

rslancer14 on August 20, 2007 at 9:08 PM

I started laughing my little behind off when I heard that. Yeah, Flight 93 didn’t exist. All those people on that flight just “disappeared.” They’re all living in the Middle East with Mohammed Atta.

I’m just waiting for “It was the Jooossss!!!” But maybe they’ll stay away from that.

mjk on August 20, 2007 at 9:12 PM

mjk on August 20, 2007 at 9:16 PM

OH, it’s 7:17pm (Mountain Time) and the Joos did it has come up.

mjk on August 20, 2007 at 9:18 PM

Does the “not sure United 93 didn’t exist” girl ever blink?

yo on August 20, 2007 at 9:19 PM

I do not think the Truthers are going to be real happy. The History Channel is making them look like the psycho nutjobs who should be sedated and committed that they really are.

William Teach on August 20, 2007 at 9:26 PM

Flight 93 actually went down in Cleavland? ROFL wow what a bunch of idiots. That or those folks in Cleavland are.

boomer on August 20, 2007 at 9:27 PM

“United 93 didn’t crash in Shanksville…it went to..are you ready for this…..Cleveland”

but ….. but… i thought it didn’t exist.

Now..did it land safely in cleveland or crash in cleveland?
The world is waiting!

rslancer14 on August 20, 2007 at 9:29 PM

That little schmuck who made “Loose Change” said he was 18 when he started questioning things. 18?? Hey, I thought I knew everything when I was 18 too. Boy was I wrong.

And that philosophy professor who founded “Scholars for 9/11 Truth.” I started laughing when I heard he was a philosophy professor because I was having a conversation with someone a couple days ago about how I called my philosophy professor useless and basically a waste of space. Philosophy is the major for people who are too stupid and lazy to be employed in an actual and useful profession. (yeah, I’m really going for offending someone tonight) :)

mjk on August 20, 2007 at 9:31 PM

Okay, this has been on for half an hour and not one Truther has been hit with a baseball bat. Color me disappointed.

I really hope they get to the rabbit cage model.

rslancer14 on August 20, 2007 at 9:29 PM

Landed safely…the passengers were made into wax figures for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. That movie House of Wax was trying to tell us something…

Actually, I question the existence of Cleveland…

JetBoy on August 20, 2007 at 9:36 PM

Darnit, I missed the beginning and I hate starting shows from the middle.

For those of you like me, it repeats at 1:00AM Eastern.

mojojojo on August 20, 2007 at 9:38 PM

I don’t think it’s Waterloo for the hardcore Truthers. These people are impervious to common sense.

packsoldier on August 20, 2007 at 9:40 PM

Good Lord, these conspiracy theorists need to be committed. They have actual grown ups like engineers and the like refuting these “theories” and they are like, “No we’re right. No matter what, we’re always right.”

I’m waiting for the next “It was the Jooosss.” Or the Israelis, which, I mean, really.

mjk on August 20, 2007 at 9:41 PM

And in case anyone wonders why the Truthers don’t believe the solid case made by Popular Mechanics, they HAVE THIS to go by.

JetBoy on August 20, 2007 at 9:41 PM

Don’t forget the “neocons” and Illuminati, mjk!

William Teach on August 20, 2007 at 9:42 PM

It’s a virtual Whack-A-Mole with the Twoofers on the receiving end. Doesn’t make a difference. Their “reality” is impenetrable.

JohnO on August 20, 2007 at 9:43 PM

packsoldier on August 20, 2007 at 9:40 PM

Too true. They have their fingers in their ears shouting
“La La La La I can’t hear you La La La”
But it’s nice to know that someone continues to set the record straight about what happened on that memorable day in American history.

Thanks, William Teach. You’re a lifesaver!!

the video of the cheering palestinian kids is notably missing.

the video of the planes hitting the towers and them collapsing still brings a tear to my eye. It’s hard to believe I still can’t watch it

lorien1973 on August 20, 2007 at 9:47 PM

So where are all these missle launchers around the pentagon what would deliver this barrage to that aircraft?

boomer on August 20, 2007 at 9:48 PM

lorien1973

It was at that point that any shred of sympathy I had for the Palestinians went right down the tubes.

JetBoy on August 20, 2007 at 9:49 PM

Anybody catch the “Clunkity-clunk winding watch” theory espoused, according to the Twoofer, by some “serious Republican?”

Beyond. Parody.

Good Lt on August 20, 2007 at 9:52 PM

the video of the cheering palestinian kids is notably missing.

lorien1973 on August 20, 2007 at 9:47 PM

Oh, come on, lorien1973, Palestinians would never cheer the senseless deaths of thousands. They’re peaceful and loving and would never ever participate in the celebrations of deaths of anyone. Oh, wait.

The video of the planes were just awful, awful still. The idea of body parts just lying around after the planes hit their targets just chills me.

I suppose these mental midgets also believe that the number of Jews killed in Holocaust can’t be proven because you can’t show them six million bodies. Because many, many of the bodies were ashes.

mjk on August 20, 2007 at 9:53 PM

Anybody catch the “Clunkity-clunk winding watch” theory espoused, according to the Twoofer, by some “serious Republican?”

JetBoy on August 20, 2007 at 10:15 PM

anyone ventured over to Truther sites yet? I imagine they are talking about whatever corporation that owns the History Channel and its ties to the ‘boogeyman’

jp on August 20, 2007 at 10:16 PM

Leave it to the History Channel to tell it as they wish it had been. And then replay it as Truth 24/7.

petefrt on August 20, 2007 at 10:17 PM

OK, now it’s getting really silly.

Those who called from Flight 93 really didn’t call.

Whoever was behind all this used voice sythesizers to simulate their voices.

A conspiracy so detailed, they knew who to call while the events unfolded.

JammieWearingFool on August 20, 2007 at 10:19 PM

Wait, one minute they say no plane hit the Pentagon and the next minute they say there was a stand down order not to shot down a plane headed for the Pentagon. Which is it?

I’m DVRing this, but can anyone tell me if I really want to watch it? Is this mainstreaming Trutherism? Or is it mainstream debunking of Trutherism? I would hope that it’s debunking, but I’m not confident that this would be the case.

RightWinged on August 20, 2007 at 10:24 PM

So no one mentioned the fact that military was actually having a drill when it hit the fan and that also caused some confusion.

No name calling or laughter, just a methodical destruction of their insanity, bit by bit.

JammieWearingFool on August 20, 2007 at 10:26 PM

Anybody catch the “Clunkity-clunk winding watch” theory espoused, according to the Twoofer, by some “serious Republican?”

I haven’t seen the show yet, but Sofia and her “clunkity clunk” theory have a long (and completely bizarre) history.

http://screwloosechange.blogspot.com/2006/12/clunkity-clunk.html

Regardless, I tell people, these buildings fell in 10 seconds, they’re 110 stories. Now let’s just use our mouth to demonstrate this. If a pancake collapse can be described as “clunkity clunk” How many times can you say that in 10 seconds? And if one floor is “clunkity clunk clunkity clunk” you cannot say that 110 times in 10 seconds. So let’s even give it the benefit of the doubt, let’s just take off the “clunk”. Let’s just say “clunkity”. You can’t say that in 10 seconds, 110 times.

I suspect that THC has played a large part in formenting these conspiracy theories as well.

Ohh thats a good one…

FireDrake on August 20, 2007 at 10:31 PM

I love the fact that everything is so “smoothly explained” by the Truthers, as it were. Were they in a coma that day? Do they remember how insane that day was? I mean, come on. I was living in Austin, TX and everyone there didn’t know what the heck happened. It was just utterly and completely insane.

It was a freaking terrorist attack. Simple as that.

mjk on August 20, 2007 at 10:31 PM

How does this troofer on WLBJ still remain on the air? Hasn’t he been adequately discredited? What credibility does he have that people would want to listen to him?

rslancer14 on August 20, 2007 at 10:33 PM

Is that Popular Mechanics editor utterly adorable? Or am I drunk again? I want to have his adorable, rational children.

“In the conspiracy world there is no worry about factually acurate evidence.”

I love it!

boomer on August 20, 2007 at 10:33 PM

It’s a little too brief on each point; but it does a great job at debunking each one. A lot to fit into 2 hours, and its doing a great job. Some stuff I didn’t know and I like that.

lorien1973 on August 20, 2007 at 10:37 PM

These 9/11 conspiracy people need to go back to watching Star Trek in their Mom and Dad’s basements, letting their Mommys make them pop tarts, and working at 7/11. Because they clearly are unable to live in the actual, real world.

mjk on August 20, 2007 at 10:43 PM

TheBigOldDog on August 20, 2007 at 10:43 PM

oakpack on August 20, 2007 at 10:44 PM

Wait a sec, wait a sec. American agents crashed the planes into buildings?? Are they freaking kidding me?

Were are the Jews?????

Apparently terrorists don’t exist in their little world.

mjk on August 20, 2007 at 10:45 PM

Good show. Does anyone else want to punch Dylan Avery in the mouth? Or does that make me a bad person?

I really agreed with the younger guy from Popular Mechanics when he said that he doesn’t have any personal feelings about the Truthers, except when they say that the final phone calls by family members was faked. To me that is disgusting, and the reason for me wanting to knock Avery around a little.

And the final thing. I was only about 16 when the attacks happened, even then to a teenager, it was plain that it wasn’t framed. I think that someone who saw the attacks unfold and thought hmmm… inside job… needs a lobotomy (for effect).

I watched Loose Change to educate myself… If you enjoy learning general stuff, then yes. It is interesting no doubt, if you aren’t familiar with the 9/11 truth movement, then it would be a good starting point to learn, if you are, it isn’t anything new, but very well presented.

Canerican on August 20, 2007 at 10:47 PM

Okay, the clunkity clunk woman is convinced that she’s not nuts. Yeah, when I worked with psychiatric patients in the hospital, they all thought they were sane. So um, yeah.

I guess terrorism is not relevant to these guys. Because they’re stupid.

mjk on August 20, 2007 at 10:57 PM

Never heard of these Loose change punks before.

And glad of it. Another group of bush hating libs
with tooo much lag time.

Texyank on August 20, 2007 at 11:02 PM

Watched it, wasn’t that impressed- would’ve liked it to be more sciency. Did like that the troofers were a nurse, truck mechanic, dude with a “Big Brother Is Watching” poster in the background, and another with an anti- Bush/Cheney poster behind him.

They did make a good point I wasn’t aware of- other WTC buildings were destroyed like bldg 4 and 6… but WTC 7 must have been blown up so the all important IRS and SEC computers would be destroyed.

I doubt the show is going to dissuade any nutty troofer / Ron Paul voters, but at least they did a fair job making them look like the crazy imbeciles they are.

Hollowpoint on August 20, 2007 at 11:06 PM

Thanks AP. Watched the entire show - very interesting.

Bradky on August 20, 2007 at 11:06 PM

10 Bucks says that any of these theorists who claim terrorists weren’t responsible for 9/11 wouldn’t have the guts to put their money where their mouth is and go to, oh, say, the Middle East. Because somewhere in their pot-addled minds, they probably realize that terrorists live there. The next time one of these idiots tell me there’s no terrorism, I’m inviting them to go with me to my favorite place in the world. Jerusalem.

How many of them will go with me, you think?
(of course, they’d have to borrow money from their parents, since they don’t seem to have, you know, jobs).

mjk on August 20, 2007 at 11:06 PM

Bradky on August 20, 2007 at 11:12 PM

These 9/11 conspiracy people need to go back to watching Star Trek in their Mom and Dad’s basements

From what I could tell, the Loose Change pimple-faced gang of three never left their basement. Now they’re fine-tuning their original documentary by editing out everything that’s been debunked.

That would leave the title, intro and credits. I predict this will not deter the truthers from purchasing the new release.

fogw on August 20, 2007 at 11:20 PM

The well documented debunking of their claims was the gist of the program and very good. But the explanations about what makes a conspiracy are worth remembering when addressing other conspiracy theories. There are people who still think the Kennedy assassination was an elaborate conspiracy.

Bradky on August 20, 2007 at 11:24 PM

I still think Maddox did the best job of ripping the truther kooks.

Bad Candy on August 20, 2007 at 11:25 PM

Can you imagine having the chutzpah to go to Ground Zero and tell the FDNY that what they saw with their eyes was a lie? Can you imagine telling the rescuers who had to sift through body parts looking in vain for someone alive that the government had the psychotic idea to kill 3000 people? So that they can go into the Middle East and attempt to referee the endless war between the Sunni and Shi’ite??

I can’t even imagine being so stupid and insensitive to do that. Would they do that to Holocaust survivors? Tell them that the Germans weren’t THAT bad? That the Death Camps weren’t so bad? That Hitler meant well?

mjk on August 20, 2007 at 11:31 PM

Bad Candy on August 20, 2007 at 11:25 PM

I certainly enjoyed his debunking - I admit to thinking of it several times during the last 2 hours.

TheBigOldDog on August 20, 2007 at 11:32 PM

Don’t you love the long shots of the Loose Change research and production facility, complete with clothes hanging on the curtain rod and that awful excuse for a dog licking itself on the bed?

mjk on August 20, 2007 at 10:33 PM

You’re not drunk. I was having similar thoughts myself.

Quisp on August 20, 2007 at 11:34 PM

For anybody who cares about the nitty gritty details of the mechanics of how the towers failed, get a hold of the PBS documentary, “Why the towers fell.” I saw it years ago and maybe once since and have to admit, the whole Truther movement caught me be surprise because the documentary had already been around a long time at that point and it’s crystal clear, down to the bolt holding the floor trusses to the face of the buildings.

They are all out to get you.

BTW, can someone explain the sense in what I just said? Seriously, do you think Rosie doesn’t want socialised healthcare — from the same people she thinks destroyed the towers?
