Video: Wave pool, Tokyo style

A massive fire code violation provides us with a moment of Zen this slow, hot Thursday morning. Meditate on it and tap into the hypnotic serenity of a white-knuckle safety hazard. I mean, summer fun!

Man, there had to have been at least a dozen workers there who approved while someone decided “okay, let’s turn this sucker on!” I picked out at least three concussions, fourteen fractures, and a few dozen dead lifeless bodies.
RW Wacko on August 16, 2007 at 8:25 AM
And I really wanted to jump in
RW Wacko on August 16, 2007 at 8:26 AM
Hey do do this in the morning…but how much body fluids are in in that pool? How many Baby Ruths? And chlorine is yellow…
I’m ashamed.
right2bright on August 16, 2007 at 8:27 AM
Hey=Hate
right2bright on August 16, 2007 at 8:28 AM
Okay, everyone: wave for the camera!
Frozen Tex on August 16, 2007 at 8:30 AM
Do the waves even make it to the far end of the pool? Is it on automatic chlorination? Is there an on-site clinic treating rashes?
eeyore on August 16, 2007 at 8:40 AM
Well, if there’s a fire, the pool is the place to be I suppose.
I wonder what the water level is when all those people get out of the pool….probably 20 gallons.
JetBoy on August 16, 2007 at 8:42 AM
Don’t be surprised when Gore uses this video in his next crockumentary.
swami on August 16, 2007 at 9:09 AM
I doubt this behavior will be the wave of the future.
csdeven on August 16, 2007 at 9:15 AM
Aren’t the Japanese completely surrounded by the Sea? And they really felt the need to build a wave pool?
Zetterson on August 16, 2007 at 9:27 AM
The Japanese are wonderful people, they know how to party at night too, I truly enjoyed my time in Japan.
Maxx on August 16, 2007 at 9:29 AM
At first I thought this was a wave pool! Its not. Its just a regular pool and these guys are wrestling at one end of it:

Folks, there’s a record-setting heat wave going on over there…
Lamonte Thomas on August 16, 2007 at 9:31 AM
That’s what she said.

SHARK!!!!!!!!!

Obviously the Trial Lawyer Association of Japan is not very powerful…
Leonidas Hoplite on August 16, 2007 at 9:42 AM
That’s funny. Reminds me of Hawaii. They PACK the hotel pools and the kids are outfitted with redundant life saving devices…
JWS on August 16, 2007 at 9:43 AM
looks like a saturday at kings dominion here in virginia lol
trailortrash on August 16, 2007 at 9:43 AM
That wave pool looked like it was an indoor facility. If so, very cool. They have entire indoor ski ranges in Japan also.
heh.

Dice: “Didn’t we just drop a couple of bombs on them a few years ago? What was in those bombs, FERTILIZER?”
Tony737 on August 16, 2007 at 10:01 AM
A human wave.
Mojave Mark on August 16, 2007 at 10:47 AM
Wow, I might be misconstruing what you are trying to get across, and if so I apologize, but that seems WAY out of line. What is that, a Dice Clay joke or something? I’m not laughing.
RW Wacko on August 16, 2007 at 10:48 AM
Oh, the inhumanity.
Brat on August 16, 2007 at 11:04 AM
I would love to test that water.
congsan on August 16, 2007 at 11:06 AM
“Bacterial frappe” comes to mind.
And “Poke A Man” (and woman, and child and everybody else).
profitsbeard on August 16, 2007 at 11:48 AM
Dear God… I can’t imagine that nearly all of the water wasn’t displaced out of the pool by all of those bodies.
Prophet on August 16, 2007 at 12:08 PM
I became claustrophobic just watching.
IrishEyes on August 16, 2007 at 12:31 PM
Wacko: “What is that, a Dice Clay joke or something?”
Why yes it is, hence the word “Dice” in front of the qoute.
Tony737 on August 16, 2007 at 12:49 PM
I love the way the sound echoes. Also, I love the colours.
Apeking on August 16, 2007 at 12:52 PM
COWABUNGA!
Hey, Dude! That’s MY WAVE!
Sensei Ern on August 16, 2007 at 1:22 PM
It is just like the Tokyo subways at rush hour. Wow. Actually, the beaches here in SoCal get pretty packed in the summer. Wall-to-wall people.
Snidely Whiplash on August 16, 2007 at 1:54 PM
Sorry, but the has-been poseur douche just didn’t immediately pop into my mind.
RW Wacko on August 16, 2007 at 2:07 PM
If 1 out of 10 people pee in a pool . . .
- The Cat
P.S. How many do they fish out of the filter every night.
P.P.S. Deep in the halls of the super secret bureau of population control. “Wave pools!”
MirCat on August 16, 2007 at 3:33 PM
Suckas! Half the time when I go out on my kayak at my grandfather’s, there are rarely more than 5 boats around me within 3 or 4 miles. Even in the busier parts of Lake Champlain, during busy times, there is still an abundance of room out there… I say “suckas” but seriously, ya gotta feel bad for people that would choose to do this, over the alternative of… not doing this.
RightWinged on August 16, 2007 at 4:23 PM
Gene Pool
Kini on August 16, 2007 at 4:25 PM
Actually, the pools’s empty. It’s just the safest place for them to go during an 8.0.
Coronagold on August 16, 2007 at 6:38 PM
Guaranteed 20 gallons of piss in there.
Nonfactor on August 16, 2007 at 9:50 PM
Wow, that’s scarey! I’d get freakishly claustrophobic in that pool!
You are a lucky person RightWinged! It’s beautiful up there.
4shoes on August 16, 2007 at 10:41 PM
It definitely is. That’s why, despite the out of control liberalism up here, I moved back here last year.
RightWinged on August 16, 2007 at 11:52 PM
You can have Tokyo (awesome place to visit), you can have Lake Champlain, I’ll keep suffering in the terrible SoCal weather, with too many great beaches for them all to be crowded at once.
Freelancer on August 17, 2007 at 12:49 AM
You win in terms of weather… we’re lucky to get 3 months of summer.
RightWinged on August 17, 2007 at 4:26 AM
Those aren’t pillows!!!!
