Video: The all-important swing vote

posted at 9:00 am on August 16, 2007 by Allahpundit

Hint: it ain’t independents.

Even by Onion standards, the deadpan here is magnifique. Doubtless there’s some truth to the humor, too. Just one more reason to bet against Obama.

zane on August 16, 2007 at 9:04 AM

Is idgit actually a word?

Esthier on August 16, 2007 at 9:15 AM

Yes, Esthier, and you might even recognize the photo next to its definition. ;) Love ya!

ChefJeff on August 16, 2007 at 9:23 AM

In a looong-ago (real) story on the importance of TV to elections, there was a clip of a man who had voted for Kennedy in 1960:
Why did you vote for Kennedy? It was the debates. What about the debates? I didn’t like the way Nixon looked. What do you mean? It was his eyes, particularly that left one…

eeyore on August 16, 2007 at 9:24 AM

The Onion will go far.

So good to see you’re still here. I was worried your Christian faith might have made it difficult for you to insult me.

ChefJeff on August 16, 2007 at 9:23 AM

I’m just glad they didn’t go in a different direction with that one.

Esthier on August 16, 2007 at 9:35 AM

I hate to say this but it is soooo true.
Idjitsa live and dead have been voting for dems for years.

amerpundit on August 16, 2007 at 9:33 AM

Yes, and some times the onion brings tears to my eyes.

TheSitRep on August 16, 2007 at 9:39 AM

re the “bet against Obama” link – as soon as the weather breaks, we’re likely see Barry in a flannel shirt and overalls, chomping on bit-o-hay, trying out-Lamar Senator A. hisself.

I hope she responds and sends this thread spiriling off into oblivion. Not that I didn’t think the video was funny, I just like it when threads do that.

BadgerHawk on August 16, 2007 at 9:49 AM

Well done, well done! Oh, to see the rehearsals, outtakes, and blooper reel!!

RushBaby on August 16, 2007 at 9:58 AM

Speaking of the idget vote, how are the fred? groupies doing? It seems that freddie boy has done just enough to scuttle his campaign so he can get that cool $3.4 mil into his family’s pockets.

csdeven on August 16, 2007 at 9:59 AM

So, does this mean that the Onion has given up satire and is dipping its toes into straight political analysis? If so, they need to be careful about where they step when covering Hillary.

TunaTalon on August 16, 2007 at 10:01 AM

This was actually ONN, not CNN?!?

I thought, well, I thought I was watching………

OMG! I’m an idgit!

TwinkietheKid on August 16, 2007 at 10:03 AM

That was awesome.

Spirit of 1776 on August 16, 2007 at 10:06 AM

I’m an idgit. I helped elect Clinton by voting for Perot. It was the “giant sucking sound” comment that got me.

On-my-soap-box on August 16, 2007 at 10:06 AM

I don’t know how they can film those clips with a straight face. I LMAO every time I see an Onion clip. Keep them coming, AP.

Seejane, glad you’re still around. Where’ve ya been?

pullingmyhairout on August 16, 2007 at 10:11 AM

“I see idgits…they’re everywhere. They walk around like everyone else. They don’t even know that they’re idgits!”

That giant sucking sound wasn’t jobs going south-of-the-border. It was your vote being sucked away into nothingness, you idgit.

I think AP and hollowpoint, among others are going to be a party to their own “giant sucking sound” by staying home this year instead of voting for the lesser of two weevils.

We’re voting this year? My gaw – did I hit my head and wake up a year later?

This is what starts those little spats. I understood it as election year (as in the election cycle, this is a post on elections, not a fiscal closing). Being able to comprehend is difficult. Thanks for correcting that post, that was helpful.

right2bright on August 16, 2007 at 11:15 AM

Shouldn’t Edwards shorten his name for the idgit vote?

Something like “dwa” or “ard”?

The Nerf Candidate, indeed!

Idgits are those who believe that there is actually a “Religion of Peace” …with a name that sounds like a luchmeat.

profitsbeard on August 16, 2007 at 11:58 AM

Some internet idgit stole an “n” en route from my final post:

“lunchmeat”.

The favorite compound word of idgits.

Or is that candydate?

profitsbeard on August 16, 2007 at 12:00 PM

Come November of 2008 every idgit’s vote will count the same as every profitsbeard.
There are more idgits in the country than profitsbeards.

Hey, I am a self-confessed idgit and I take offense.

He is an idiot.

On-my-soap-box on August 16, 2007 at 2:02 PM

1. Ron Paul! . . .oh wait.

2. Hillary Clinton 15 times in a 30 second add. . . .this explains Chocolate Rain.

- give me a dollar The give me a dollar Cat

MirCat on August 16, 2007 at 3:36 PM

Idgits everywhere are waking up to realization that All these “Candidates” are secretly involved in a thinly veiled conspiracy to take over the presidency. Any socially conscientious objective Idgit will refuse to implicate themselves by staying in front of the TV until this so called “Election” has passed.

Remember Vote=Pain
