Christianity and islam.
Love and hate.
Life and death.
Peace and war.
Civilization and barbarity.
Freedom and slavery.
Apples and orang… poison berries.

All joking aside (esp. regarding the Hamas Bee), Robert Spencer rocks!! I listened to the interview yesterday with Michelle and he was awesome. So much smarts in one person is just not fair!!
I’m looking for the book right now.

One doesn’t have to lie or hate when the answer is obvious. These two religions have Icons that couldn’t be any more polar opposite. One Icon was a healer and a forgiver and the other Icon was a killer and a conqueror. Christians refuse to accept Mohammed as a prophet. Muslims refuse to acknowledge Jesus Christ as the son of God. Muslims are against Christ, as Devine and are therefore considered anti-Christian or Anti-Christ. Christians further reinforce this threw Matthews 7 15-20. Where in this verse explains that you can judge “False prophets by their results”. The World doesn’t see Christians/Jewish/Hindu/Buddha killing in the name of their god guided by their prophets. But instead the results from Islam has been death, destruction and chaos. One only has to do is judge them by their results.

I can’t shake the feeling that it’s too late. That our civilization, just waking up to the threat against its existence, is too late to respond effectively, especially with so many contrary voices babbling about Peace.
Robert Spencer and others have clearly called us to defend ourselves-it may just be too late.
Doug on August 14, 2007 at 2:52 PM
Lauren is a warm loving Christian. They obviously pre-arranged to have Robert talk about Islam and Lauren to talk about Christianity. As soon as she strays, she can’t help but repeat the Islamo propaganda.
“Reverence” for Christ is a Islamo myth. Roberts Spencer was polite and did not rebuke her, but I know what he was thinking.
This clip reveals an important dilemma. Secular Christians have researched Islam and have analyzed the propaganda of apologists. There seems to be some indication that Evangelicals have opened their eyes too.
What is lacking is devout Christians from Episcopals to Catholics remain confused. The “knee-jerk” responses that “Jihad means inner struggle”, “Allah is the same god”, etc. persist.
Agrippa2k on August 14, 2007 at 2:52 PM
We’ll know America is on the path to victory when Jihad Watch is a popular daily show on Fox News.
FloatingRock on August 14, 2007 at 2:53 PM
The whole “Allah is the same god” concept is deeply flawed and misleading. The statement is not even wrong. Allah is not a god at all, it is a supposed god described by someone whose claims hundreds of years after the fact conflict with written records of numerous eyewitnesses, people who willingly gave their lives based on what they saw and wrote about. People who give their lives for Allah do so to get booty.
I agree, Robert Spencer is really on the ball to politely refute Green on the nonsense of Muslims revering Jesus. They revere some fictional creation of Mohamed who has a similar name.

Links?
billy on August 14, 2007 at 3:07 PM
again,… Links?
billy on August 14, 2007 at 3:09 PM
Now I have no links, because I tend to read book to figure this stuff out. Allah actually refers to a moon god worshipped in the Middle East. Hence the crescent moon on the Islamic flags. Allah was, in fact, not the same God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, rather a completely different god co-opted by Mohammed to be the final and complete God
Mohammed who was actually illiterate changed the Bible and dictated to his secretaries what was right and wrong with the Bible itself. Like Abraham wasn’t Jewish – he was muslim. Like Moses’ sister, Miriam was actually the mother of Jesus. Like Jesus didn’t actually die on the cross. Like God isn’t God, rather Allah is god.
Of course, there are also actually parts of the Koran (which were “extracted” from the book, even thought it’s advertised as perfect) that enjoin worshippers to pay reverence to another couple of gods (their names escape me) and to worship Satan.
These parts, I did actually read in some English language Koran so you know.

Billy @ 3:18p.m.
Muslims and Christians definitely do not worship the same god. The two are polar opposites. Ask any devout muslim if he worships the christian God and he will surely laugh in your face. “Say he is god, the one and only god, eternal and absolute. He begets not, nor is he begotten and there is none like him” {Qur’an 112:1-4}
Now compare that to John 3:16 which says “For God so loved the world that He sent His One and Only begotten Son that whoever would believe in Him would not perish, but have everlasting life”.
Also from the Qur’an – “They said the most gracious has begotten a son. You have uttered a gross blasphemy. The heavens are about to shatter, the earth is about to tear asunder and the mountains are about to crumble because they claim the most gracious has begotten a son. It is not befitting the most gracious that he should beget a son…” -{Qur’an 19:88-95}
How about this from John 1:14 – “And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
These are only a few of many, many fundamental differences between the two. Jesus’ Sonship and His deity are two basic tenets of Christianity and Islam denies those two in the Qur’an. If you would like more examples, I would be happy to provide them.

And that is what separates them from us.
We believe that God became Man and died for our sins, and they don’t.
As a Christian can we hate them for that?
We can hate them for 9/11, we can hate them for all the terrible videos we see here on Hot Air, but can we hate them because they do not accept Christ as their savior?
As much as I agree with our President and still support him,I find the “comfort level” with this line of thinking very disturbing.

They are blinded by the god of this world(Satan)and need the saving grace of Jesus to lift the scales off their eyes just as much as we do.

billy,
I work for a muslim doctor who did indeed laugh in my face when I asked him that question. To which I replied “why are you laughing? It was an honest question?” Then he proceeded to tell me regarding the tenets of the Islamic faith and that in no way, shape or form do muslims and christians worship the same god.
There…does this answer your question?

I dont remember Dick Morris needing a counter on Fox n Friends.

billy on August 14, 2007 at 5:41 PM
Ok, billy, how do you reconcile the fact that muslims deny the deity of Christ, that Christ was crucified and that Christ is the only way to salvation? How can you then say we worship the same god? We don’t. It’s plain and simple. Muslims believe the only way to heaven(paradise) is by acts of martyrdom. That is the only way, according to the Qur’an. It’s a works based system that denies Christ. “But though we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel(Christ crucified) unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed”. – Galations 1:8
Nolamom67 on August 14, 2007 at 5:41 PM
It seems kind of odd that the people actually doing the worshiping don’t seem to get to define exactly who it is they are worshiping, instead others get to tell them who it is they are “really” worshipping.
As an illustration. The people from Island “A” worship a volcano that they call “Rock”. The people from Island “B” worship a large carved stone idol they call “Stone”. An expert from another nation tells the people of Island “A” that they worship the same god as the people from Island “B” because the language of each island has a common source language and the word for “Rock” on Island “A” has the same common root word as the word “Stone” on Island “B”.
This expert is not swayed by the argument that the Island “A” natives make that their god shakes the land and belches out vast gouts of steam, ash and lava while the god of Island “B” does none of those things. Nor is the expert swayed by the arguments the natives of Island “B” make that their god has a face, with eyes to watch over them, ears to hear their supplications and a mouth to give them wisdom while the god of Island “A” has none of these things. The expert simply pats them on the head, sadly smiling at their obvious ignorance, for there can be no doubt that their gods are the same because he, in his expertise, has declared it to be so and his claim is unassailably supported by his vast knowledge of the origins of their individual languages.

apollyonbob on August 14, 2007 at 5:53 PM
This implied argument is fundamentally flawed because it is based on linguistics rather than theology. The origin of the word “Allah” doesn’t necessarily shed much light on what different religions believe their God to be.

I had to laugh. That was funny.
PRCalDude on August 14, 2007 at 5:53 PM
billy,
Because Muslims believe that martyrdom is the only way to achieve paradise then you definitely have reason to be worried about our future. Imagine what it would be like if their eyes were opened and they saw their need for Christ and realized His death paid the price for all of us. They wouldn’t have to earn their salvation. None of us can earn our salvation. “For by grace, you are saved, through faith, and NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8,9. Praise God for this, the good news of Jesus Christ who took my place on the cross. I, a depraved sinner, deserving of hell, can now spend eternity with Jesus based only on what He has done! Great and Glorious God!!!!! This is what sets men free, billy.

Sticking your head in the sand is a form of suicide. Plugging your ears and yelling, “LA LA LA WE ALL WORSHIP THE SAME GOD” isn’t going to convince the jihadists when they come to kill you.
There is real danger out there. There are real Islamofascist terrorists. And they do not worship the same god as Christians. They don’t believe so, we don’t believe so. The Pope doesn’t believe so. Robert Spencer has dedicated a good portion of his life studying the Koran and every other Islamic holy book, and he doesn’t believe so. . The Islamists refer to Christians and Jews as “People of the Book”. They believe, as Spencer rightly says, that anyone who believes in the divinity of Christ is an unbeliever. So the leaders of the Islamic world don’t believe so.
The real question is: Why the hell do you?
(Evidence in your answer, pulled either from the Bible or the Koran, preferrably both, appreciated.)

Where do I dis-agree?
I don’t think the radicalism of al-Quaeda is inherent to Islam.

Billy;
Do you really believe that ‘the same God’ would command BOTH of the following:
Quran; Surah 004: Ayah 089
Take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah. Seize them and slay them wherever ye find them.
And
Bible: Exodus 20 or Deuteronomy 5; The 6th Commandment:
You shall not murder.
Back when I was young and naive, I too believed that God and Allah were essentially the same.
Then I actually read the Quran.
And realized that only the complete antithesis of God would call for conversion by the Sword instead of by the Word.

Allah just means “God” in Arabic….It’s not that complicated, Arab Christians and Jews call God “Allah.” The Muslim “Allah” is clearly derivative from the Judaic-Christian lineage. It was John of Damascus who some 1000 years ago first described Islam as a Christian heresy. Nevertheless, it’s hard to reconcile the simple fact that the basis of the Christian belief in God is belief in the Trinitarian nature of God, which of course the Muslims do not accept–but neither do the Jews, so does that mean they do not worship the same God? I guess I’m somewhat on the fence about this one. Clearly the Islamic God is related to the Christian God in some sense, certainly more than say the many gods of Hinduism…That said, I do think far too much Islam-bashing goes on at this website.
WillBarrett on August 14, 2007 at 8:26 PM
I can’t say for certain that I agree with every single thing that Robert Spencer says or writes (after all, I haven’t read all of his stuff), but from what little I have seen here on HotAir, I can say with some confidence that:
1) he is fair (I would not question either his integrity or his motives),
2) his depth of knowledge regarding the subject matter is simply vast (he is an impressive scholar, to say the least),
3) he possesses sorely needed verbal and written communication skills that are in sharp contrast to what I see in today’s MSM.
