I’m not sure why these things explode when they do, but this one has. How viral? This viral:

Proof positive that the Foxies are reading the blogs, I guess.
Not my cup of tea but the sentiment is gorgeous. And needless to say, the man is a master of breath control.

My reaction after a second viewing:
America is just fine.
We worry far too much about the little things, see far too many tiny saplings and miss the primeval forest of towering oaks.
America is fine. She will survive and triumph and remain.
Liberals and Daily Kos and DU and all the pundits and pols aren’t America. They won’t be remembered.
This guy is America. He matters.
He is who our enemies to face. I pity them for that.
America is just fine. The rest is all noise.
Peace out.
Professor Blather on August 13, 2007 at 1:52 PM
I’m glad it’s getting so much attention.
FloatingRock on August 13, 2007 at 1:56 PM
As a family member of a former 4-year POW I am glad that there are still people out there who do this. My family member couldn’t do what this soldier did, but he does it everyday in many ways.
sharinlite on August 13, 2007 at 2:01 PM
I’m not usually a big fan of rap, but that piece is undeniably stirring–in large part because of the utter sincerity and intensity of its speaker. Maggots like Kos and his fellow America-hating moonbats aren’t worthy to kiss that Marine’s combat boots.
Off topic: I used to have some of that same barracks furniture, and I’m sure I wasn’t the only one around here.
ReubenJCogburn on August 13, 2007 at 2:11 PM
It gave me chills. I served my country in the Army, just wish I could have put into words the emotion this Marine felt. The way I hope most of us feel about America.
riccangolf on August 13, 2007 at 2:12 PM
I said I wept, that was an understatement. Actually, I cried like a menopausal women.
TheSitRep on August 13, 2007 at 2:16 PM
I pledged Allegiance again today.

Who will be the first to step up and give this guy a contract?
nailinmyeye on August 13, 2007 at 2:29 PM
The Strong, the few, the proud, add the poet patriot. From MCRD to MCS the Corps stands proud with this Marine!

You mean he doesn’t have to move away from the mic to breathe in?
James on August 13, 2007 at 2:39 PM
Didn’t Creedence Clearwater Revival have something to say about being stuck in Lodi . . . Again?
I guess now we know why.
jdkchem on August 13, 2007 at 2:41 PM
Very moving. Toward the end I liked how he said “right to say that I’m black,” then paused before continuing with “or white,” and tied it in with the beginning.(that gave me goosebumps). Through it all you can tell he absolutely feels what he’s saying.
JimRich on August 13, 2007 at 2:41 PM
Most awesome! I want to see Russell Simmons put this man on.

P.S. Ya know, I’ve witnessed the begining, creation, and evolution of three great things. “Where’s the Beef, I’ve fallin’ and I can’t get up, and now I step away from the mic.”
My life is good.

Second time I’ve seen this, and it gives me goosebumps. I’m glad this is going viral.

Did none of you ever see “Def Poetry Jam”? It was–is it still on?–all this sort of thing, but with less agreeable politics, typically.

Look! We’re able to do more than kill people and break things… But we’re loved, becuase we kill people and break things…

If this is our tip of the spear, the enemies of freedom are in deep shit.

Bravo! Well Said. Now, why can’t more Rap be like that?
NeoConSnakePlissken on August 13, 2007 at 3:34 PM
This guy’s got a career as a preacher if he wants it when he gets out of the service.

America, land of the free.
If only the rest of the world could be.
Aylios on August 13, 2007 at 3:41 PM
Excellent inspirational rap. The only rap to date that I can say that I like.
Coronagold on August 13, 2007 at 3:50 PM
And that, friends, is why they are the best…simply, the best.
Weight of Glory on August 13, 2007 at 3:50 PM
Amazing stuff. I love spoken word, especially when I can agree with the content and not just enjoy the style. ;)
CorinthianJest on August 13, 2007 at 3:56 PM
YEAH!
I think this video should be shown on Capital Hill to remind Congress what exemplary soldiers we have fighting for this country.
NORBZ1 on August 13, 2007 at 4:28 PM
Point of information:
The style in which this poetry is delivered is called Slam, as noted by Allah in the Headline. Despite its similarities poetry slam is unique in many ways. There are many slam poets from diverse backgrounds who write and perform poems about various facets of life.
I’ve heard hundreds of slam poets and thousands of rap tracks. I’ve been to hundreds of live music events in my short life. This is a triumph!
I have never been so thoroughly moved by art ever. I’ve heard stuff that sounded better, and I still have my favorite artists. But this is the first time someone has connected the words, feelings and passion that wells up in me when I think about how much I love this nation.
I was hoping to find this up on HA. Thank you.

“…for me to be…Free.”
Infreakingcredible.
But does someone want to check check with Jon Soltz, because maybe he shouldn’t be doing that in uniform.

Semper Fi, Marine. And thank you.

Now THAT is my Marine Corps and THAT is why they
are the best in the world at what they do! I shivered
with pride to have once been a part of these warriors
without peer…

True.
Jones Zemkophill on August 13, 2007 at 7:00 PM
Words are not enough. Bravo, Devil, bravo. This needs to be passed around to everyone who doubts how the (Marines!) troops feel. Semper Fi!
THIS is the stuff I miss!
