Video: “If he’s so smart, how come you lost Congress?”

A parting shot for Karl from a press corps that loved him so. Reminds me in an odd way of Olby arching an eyebrow after the Glasgow plot broke and wondering why, if we’re fighting them over there, we still very occasionally have to fight them over here, too. In terrorism as in elections, for Bush it’s perfection or bust, baby!

Jim Treacher asks the question I think we’re all asking ourselves this afternoon. Meanwhile, do people really think Fred is going to bring this guy onboard in any kind of official role? Because, dude.

Reaction roundup here from NBC. As usual, Huckabee has the best line.

Blowback

Bill Plante of CBS, who bellowed to Bush: “If he’s so smart, how come you lost Congress?”

Pathetic.

RightWinged on August 13, 2007 at 2:58 PM

Bill Plante of CBS, who bellowed to Bush: “If he’s so smart, how come you lost Congress?”

Because my side doesn’t include people voting multiple times, the dead, and dogs as voters?

Canadian Imperialist Running Dog on August 13, 2007 at 3:03 PM

I can only think of one democrat I would choose over Karl for the white house… can you name him?

Kaptain Amerika on August 13, 2007 at 3:03 PM

That lack of class is so irritating. The WH Press Corp is so smarmy.

Spirit of 1776 on August 13, 2007 at 3:04 PM

If CBS is so good, how come they hired Katie Couric (and lost the ratings)?

driller on August 13, 2007 at 3:08 PM

Plante demonstrates his ignorance of midterm election history. For an education:

T J Green on August 13, 2007 at 3:12 PM

Umm unless I miss my guess Rove was in charge of getting Bush elected not Congress.

The Foley Scandle and Abramhoff and other Congressonal Scandles cost us Congress and the worries about Iraq. If it wasnt for the combination not sure we would have lost

William Amos on August 13, 2007 at 3:12 PM

If CBS is so smart, how come they helped blow John Francois Querie’s election in 2004?

JammieWearingFool on August 13, 2007 at 3:23 PM

And yet, his approval rating is still higher than Congress’.

amerpundit on August 13, 2007 at 3:23 PM

“If he’s so smart, how come you lost Congress?”

Because Rove wanted to lose the 2006 election. It’s step #4367c in the master plan for control of Galaxy. Now Mr. Plante, they have you right where they want you. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

trubble on August 13, 2007 at 3:24 PM

Jim Treacher asks the question I think we’re all asking ourselves this afternoon.

I don’t know what to do! I’ve been turning my antennae in every direction this afternoon and can’t find the signal anymore!

Please, Karl. Turn the signal back on.

Don’t forget the forbidden word. MACACA! Thanks to that we now have Senator Melonhead Webb.

pistolero on August 13, 2007 at 3:29 PM

In reality can add that Republican Congresses were also spend happy. They couldnt keep away from the pork either

William Amos on August 13, 2007 at 3:32 PM

If the democrats are so smart, how come they elected Pelosi and Reid?

right2bright on August 13, 2007 at 3:33 PM

Hey Jim, if *you’re* so smart, why are you a journalist???

Tony737 on August 13, 2007 at 3:36 PM

Because the Dems over-promised on what they would later under-deliver? (”Lied” is such a harsh word – though certainly appropriate here)

eucher on August 13, 2007 at 3:41 PM

I thought Plante had been planted, but he’s still around?

Captain America on August 13, 2007 at 3:43 PM

Hey Bill Plante, if you’re so great a reporter, how come the CBS Evening News is in the toilet as far as the ratings go?!!!!!

pilamaye on August 13, 2007 at 3:48 PM

“If he’s so smart, how come you lost Congress?”

Notice the pronoun here. “How come you lost Congress.” Any fair reporter a) wouldn’t have asked such a snarky question, and b) if they did would’ve phrased it as “how come the Republicans lost Congress.” I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more blatent display of liberal MSM bias.

crazy_legs on August 13, 2007 at 3:49 PM

The Republicans lost Congress, but they’re getting it back.
Never before has a Congress had such low approval ratings.
And besides, its hardly much of a victory, since its not a veto-proof majority.

ToddonCapeCod on August 13, 2007 at 3:54 PM

“Security: Remove that idiot heckler from the premises.”

“Now.”

It wasn’t a question. It wasn’t meant to be. It was a schoolyard taunt.

I don’t get Huckabee’s joke. More time with his banker?

see-dubya on August 13, 2007 at 4:03 PM

Huckabee has been running as the everyman, poor kid from Hope candidate. He’s attempting to position everyone as a pawn of the rich but himself. He’s on a mission from God.

JackStraw on August 13, 2007 at 4:09 PM

“If he’s so smart, how come you lost Congress?”

What because your smart you always must win?

That means dumb people should always lose?

How then do we account for Pelosi, Reed, Kennedy, Murtha, and on and on…….

soulsirkus on August 13, 2007 at 4:12 PM

Resuming from a previous Rove thread.
Schumer and Leahy : ping……ping

captivated_dem on August 13, 2007 at 4:13 PM

Democrats go into recovery and Republicans go back to their families.

Hening on August 13, 2007 at 4:16 PM

But the media is not biased…

Wade on August 13, 2007 at 4:18 PM

Bill Plante of CBS, who bellowed to Bush: “If he’s so smart, how come you lost Congress?”

Simple, Bush wasn’t running for congress. Republicans lost congress because they didn’t stand for their principals.

But you’re with CBS, Credibility Beneath Standards.

Kini on August 13, 2007 at 4:19 PM

JackStraw, if that’s it, that joke was as funny as Rove is a good dancer.

see-dubya on August 13, 2007 at 4:23 PM

If your so smart, how come CBS is losing ratings?

right2bright on August 13, 2007 at 4:23 PM

I never have understood why some believe Rove to be such a genius. Bush only beat Gore by the “luck of the draw” of vote distribution. If just “a few” more New Yorkers had moved to Florida instead of California, Bush would have lost to Gore. Bush did not beat Kerry, probably the most repulsive Presidential candidate ever, by much.

MB4 on August 13, 2007 at 4:26 PM

Once again I am left ot point out that if this was a Jim Angle or Megyn Kendall (neither of whom ever would make such a comment) who had said something similar to a Hillary or Bill Clinton, it would be front page news all over the country, and every former Democrat staffer who is now a big wheel at a major network or newspaper would be calling for heads to roll, crying out that press “Objectivity has been comprimised!!!”

i am only paranoid becoz there are wolves after me.

Mike D. on August 13, 2007 at 4:47 PM

Karl Rove helped George Bush win elections in 1994, 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2004. 5 out of 6 ain’t too bad. And to Mr. Plante of CBS, if you are so smart, how come you guys are paying a last place newscaster $40 Million?

SoulGlo on August 13, 2007 at 4:52 PM

On American Morning, Huckabee also said that he would gladly receive Rove’s help is he wanted to give it. Which is smart, rove is a brilliant political mind, anyone who would turn him down is stupid.

Complete7 on August 13, 2007 at 4:58 PM

A parting shot for Karl from a press corps that loved him so.

There is a huge difference between a corps and a corpse. The press is the latter but hasn’t internalized it yet.

Karl, love or hate him, will, however, live forever.

Entelechy on August 13, 2007 at 5:01 PM

No Gore, no Kerry,
Good deeds unpunished, nary.

Entelechy on August 13, 2007 at 5:09 PM

The Dems took congress because Rove…
… wanted the Dems to take congress.

First, they HAD to be the majority party for 2 years for all America to see what losers they are–Have y’all SEEN the approval ratings of congress? Ya can’t hold the opposition party responsible if THEY AIN’T BEEN IN POWER. ‘Course as you can plainly see- they’re not really in power now (what with the veto and all). But come serious campaing time the GOP HAS to be able to point to all the damage the Dems did! Lettin’ the Dems think they won somethin’for 2 years is a small price to pay to reposition’em.

And, more important- Rove (and Jorge) REALLY wanted to guarantee the continuation of illegal labor via immigration reform- and they needed a Dem majority to do it. They still can’t BELIEVE they lost that one! Weren’t Karl’s fault though-silly conservative grassroots didn’t go along with the plan!

Nope, Karl’s plans worked out jus’ like Karl wanted- except for those dang conservatives!

And he ain’t done yet!

Ex-tex on August 13, 2007 at 5:17 PM

Let me get this “lost” thingy right…

CBS and Walter klunker, Dan Lather, and Katie Whoooo.

That said, Bill Plante just added himself as being just another dumb, stupid, unprofessional “lost” clown, to CBS’s three-ring circus.

byteshredder on August 13, 2007 at 5:52 PM

There is a huge difference between a corps and a corpse. The press is the latter but hasn’t internalized it yet.

What an insult to corpses.

tommuck on August 13, 2007 at 5:54 PM

Freaky-deaky, man…first thing after I heard the news, an old Steely Dan song popped into my head:

I’m a fool to do your dirty work
Oh yeah!
I don’t wanna do your dirty work
no more!

Heh.

gryphon202 on August 13, 2007 at 6:56 PM

Huh? What? Did my Steely Dan reference get filtered? I certainly hope not…

gryphon202 on August 13, 2007 at 6:57 PM

Bill Plante of CBS, who bellowed to Bush: “If he’s so smart, how come you lost Congress?”

I have a 5yr old grandchild with more sense then
B.Plante or much of the White house press corp.

What a pathetic little gang of useful idiots..

Texyank on August 13, 2007 at 7:09 PM

That said, Bill Plante just added himself as being just another dumb, stupid, unprofessional “lost” clown, to CBS’s three-ring circus.

byteshredder on August 13, 2007 at 5:52 PM

Yep ! !

Actually he’s been there a while.

Texyank on August 13, 2007 at 7:11 PM

Oh brother. Chris Mathews just said that Karl Rove plotted to put New Orleans into the sea.

SoulGlo on August 13, 2007 at 7:26 PM

Yeah, and if dolphins are so smart, why do they live in igloos?

Seriously, does this ‘tard have any idea what he’s saying? If Rove is really so smart, how come he only won Bush four elections plus at least one mid-term one (maybe more while he was governor of Texas, who knows/cares?), but actually failed to do so one whole time? And if the Botsox are really such a good team, why have the lost almost 40% of the games they’ve played so far?
