“While looking at other couples, reading books, watching movies — I began to wonder: Why don’t I have a partner? Why am I acting like a man? There must have been a man out there for me.”

Is that Rosie in Albania ?
William Amos on August 11, 2007 at 10:31 PM
Well good for them, I guess. Given the choice, I’d have to pass myself.
Spirit of 1776 on August 11, 2007 at 10:32 PM
Any word if they are envious of John Edwards hair ?
William Amos on August 11, 2007 at 10:33 PM
If they want to be treated like men, they should be laughed out of town for still being virgins at 50 :)
c6gunner on August 11, 2007 at 10:39 PM
And by the third post, Weight of Glory had realized that the window of opportunity had closed; Willy had already made the Edwards joke. Alas, he will have to wait for AP to post another story about feminine issues…which actually shouldn’t take long.
Weight of Glory on August 11, 2007 at 10:41 PM
Ohhhh, that explains me and my life. Except not.

Dare I say they arne’t virgins by choice?
SouthernGent on August 11, 2007 at 11:36 PM
Maybe these are the virgins that Albanian Muslim martyrs receive.
Kimmer on August 11, 2007 at 11:38 PM
Isn’t atheism the official religion of Albania? Strange country. Very strange.
Frank Nitti on August 11, 2007 at 11:46 PM
Sounds like a workable model for Feminazi’s.
I see a movie in this, broke back virgin mountain.
canopfor on August 11, 2007 at 11:49 PM
Actually, there is a strong Muslim population in Albania, but also the presence of Eastern Orthodox Christianity. The Belushi brothers (John & Jim) are from an Orthodox Christian family.

Is Hillary from Albania?
Tennessee Dave on August 12, 2007 at 12:05 AM
Moisturizer and mascara honey, it’s a good start.
Tru2my2 on August 12, 2007 at 12:07 AM
Just who is certifying these virgins and how much does it pay anyway?
Speakup on August 12, 2007 at 12:22 AM
I’m afraid
ShillaryHillary will have to take this oath before she is capable of being elected.Otherwise.. she only looks good in the “rear view” mirror.
Mcguyver on August 12, 2007 at 12:32 AM
There’s an old Albanian proverb:
Virginity is like a balloon: one little pr*ck and it’s gone.
I think King Zog said that.
profitsbeard on August 12, 2007 at 12:38 AM
This is a strange story for sure. Not many are meant to be virgins for life. So have fun commenting. But…careful with the taste level of the virgin jokes though. Some of your most faithful lurkers/posters here might be virgins by choice. Case in point: see username (yes, a pun or a homonym, take your pick).
Night all. Have a nice Sunday!
Happy Virgin

You all are making jokes, sometimes funny (and I’m being generous), but these women took the only route available to be the feminists of their culture (disregard here the contemporary definition of the word ‘feminist’).
I’m happy–for many reasons–that I was born in a country and in a time in which I didn’t have to take such drastic measures to assert my independence.
baldilocks on August 12, 2007 at 1:15 AM
I have to say, if my choices were (1)slave with no rights and (2)sworn virgin, I can see chosing 2. Considering how badly women are treated in some places, how backward and ignorant the people are, I think these women are really brave.
Bad Penny on August 12, 2007 at 1:34 AM
Color me surprised. The first two words I thought of when I read that quote were “Maureen Dowd”.
thirteen28 on August 12, 2007 at 1:34 AM
The real question is, are the Masters of their own Domain?
I bet not.
and on:
I was thinking exactly the same thing.

Be a man with a life of celibacy? Well, in the West we call it marriage… :D
Faith1 on August 12, 2007 at 9:33 AM
Just goes to show that feminism in any culture is stupid. Feminism enslaves it does not liberate. Women wonder why men make airhead jokes.

Lesbianism cured.
Alert the A.P.A. and prepare for gender riots.
locomotivebreath1901 on August 12, 2007 at 12:13 PM
Look at this way, it not NEARLY as strange as Pinkybigglesworth’s incessant clamoring for more “pictures of Helen Thomas nakid’”.
