Video: The freaky deakiest UFO clip evah?

Late Friday afternoon in August, baby. Ain’t nothing like it.
Allegedly filmed in Haiti on Monday night, there’s no news of UFO sightings in that country anywhere on the wires. The Diggbats suspect some sort of covert viral marketing scheme for Halo 3 or whatever. I’m inclined to agree. Anyone know the scoop?

If highschool kids can do CG spaceships in their movies, than this is easy to fake. But harder for those that don’t deal with it to tell the difference.
YouTube Trailer for the 3rd part.
Still pretty dang kewl if you ask me.
- The Cat
P.S. None of the links I’ve umm linked have anything to do with the post above. Just showing how good CG is for the talented non-studio types.
MirCat on August 10, 2007 at 5:12 PM
er….um…
why do non aerodynamic craft have to make aerodynamic turns?
Limerick on August 10, 2007 at 5:12 PM
If that was done digitally–my hat’s off to whomever created it. Cool nonetheless.

They have video cameras in Haiti? I didn’t think they even had food there.

Blaise on August 10, 2007 at 5:18 PM
heh……
I think the biggest question is why would you want to buzz Haiti in the first place?
Limerick on August 10, 2007 at 5:18 PM
That looks for all the world like they got the flight trajectory from two jet fighters.
I suspect they did.
Christoph on August 10, 2007 at 5:19 PM
Because the wanna know what the something happening in Haiti was too.
- The Cat
P.S. What I wanna know is, are they manned by robots. . . and when talking about robots can you say manned?
MirCat on August 10, 2007 at 5:20 PM
Nice special effects. Along those lines, I haven’t been looking, but I would be very entertained to see clips of the debates with the candidates saying really ridiculous things, like Hillary objecting to socialized medicine.

At least people who fake UFO sightings are getting better at it.

One of the diggbats said the same thing I was thinking. When the UFOs’ (first clip) pass over the camera and over the trees; they become blurry. This is a computer problem caused by the CGI or whatever. Motion is always hard for a computer to render; and no fix was made here. It went in focus, blurred (not a camera blur) but a motion blur, then got into focus again when it started moving away. You see this effect in cheap CGI movies all the time.

Somewhere in some parallel universe, in a blog, on a planet, dominated by robots, there is a commenter named MirCatbot, asking if, while viewing a video of UFO’s, asks, “and when talking about men can you say robotted?”

186k on August 10, 2007 at 5:28 PM
The little out-of-focus-for-touristy-verismilitude trick was nice.
Aliens will not use ships that look like “ships”, but more likely will arrive in something more akin to deep sea fish, which may be “alive” in some as-yet unfathomable non-sentient/sentient chimaera manner.
At least that’s what past attempts at Prognostication tell me.
profitsbeard on August 10, 2007 at 5:28 PM
I question whether that’s Halo, unless those are going to be new dropships. They look nothing like Covenant ships…just sayin’.
Bad Candy on August 10, 2007 at 5:30 PM
Haiti and Dominican Republic? Aren’t they on the same island? Looks to me like the same palm trees from two different angles.
There are any number of working hover craft, and/or vertical take-off vehicle designs/kits that people play around with.
But this could also be faked. The images of the “vehicles” are a bit fuzzy with respect to the sharpness of the background.
Lawrence on August 10, 2007 at 5:31 PM
I think the AP already has a story up on this, there have been new sightings of the UFOs bombing an innocent palestinian village.
AdrianG on August 10, 2007 at 5:31 PM

William Amos on August 10, 2007 at 5:35 PM
AP, Are those supposed to be two different occurrences in two different places? Because the palm trees are the same. Same kind of palms on either side of the “witness”.

Fred? still can’t win! He’s too late.
TBinSTL on August 10, 2007 at 5:36 PM
Limerick,
A non aerodynamic craft may not have an omni-directional propulsion system.
It’s definitely CG though and some decent CG but the lighting on the 3D models isn’t perfect and neither is the focus.
bj1126 on August 10, 2007 at 5:36 PM
Could be a Bungie(Halo’s publisher) viral campaign, they have a track record of it…anyone remember I Love Bees?

Quick! Someone get that The Onion clip of something happening in Hatti.
Nonfactor on August 10, 2007 at 5:37 PM
Some of them stopped by my house with threatening ray guns. I dodged into the kitchen, made a hat out of tinfoil (just like the one I wore at Kos 2006), grabbed my double-walled softball special and came out, holding my “peace stick” in a friendly gesture. Obviously the aluminum headgear blocked their telepathy because they smiled and dropped their rayguns just as I made contact with the first pitch, knocking it on its gray posterior, then going 2-for-2 with its pal, doubling him off the center field fence.
Now I can understand why this baby was banned in my softball league!

bj1126 on August 10, 2007 at 5:44 PM
To me, they looked a lot like one of the old underwater habitats that Captain Jacques Cousteau experimented with back in the 1960s. I believe it was called Starfish House because of its shape.
Although the first one looked more like a flying hibachi with the four “burners” underneath. And IIRC, most “UFOs” reported from the Arnold sighting on have not been reported as having reaction engines, the Chiles/Whitted case (1948), the Zamora case (1964), and the Cash/Landrum case (1980) being conspicuous exceptions to the rule.
I’m calling it CGI until some better supporting evidence shows up.
cheers

Umm, will the Covenant be flying around in crappy Millennium Falcon knock-offs in Halo 3?
I played the Beta version of H3 last month. Granted, that’s not the complete game, but there def wasn’t anything like that in the multiplayer.

I’ll probably get lots of flack for this, but stuff like this really pisses me off. CG effects today are photorealistic, so people need to exercise way more responsibility with them. It’s not difficult to create a fake “home movie” like this stupid stuff above. I suspect that AP’s right, that this is some obnoxious marketing scheme for Halo 3 or whatever idiotic product that’s whoring for attention.
I think CG effects are cool, but I also think we need to be careful with them. Thankfully we weren’t fooled by the low-quality Photoshopping done with the Lebanon war photos, but there probably are some well-done fakes out there too. I’m not saying the UFO videos are on par with faking war photos, but they do encourage stupid irresponsible behaviour like that… people like to appear “clever” by making fake stuff like this. There’s a time and place for photorealistic CG effects… a clearly fictional Hollywood movie is one thing, but faking a home movie and throwing it out there is irresponsible, in my opinion.

If those UFO depictions are fake, I want to see someone reproduce this. What ever it was or is, with the background there, it would be hard to fake. Doubters will poo poo the idea, but it really looked real to me. Guess I am just gullible.

Nothing to worry about. This is just the baby robot-thingies from Batteries Not Included all grown up now! They’d be in their late teens or early twenties by now. They’re just enjoying the last bit of summer on vacation in the Caribbean before they have to head back to college.
Their next move is to fix up a bunch of the shacks and then get blasted on rum.

I’m sorry, but those “ships” were just not going nearly FAST enough to be true alien scout ships.
I mean they were positively lumbering along.
Evidently they like warm weather though. And Palm trees.
Cant say I blame them. They must come from the Ice Planet Hoth and are just looking for some rays.
