The media likes having Soltz on opposite the Move America Forward people, partly because it guarantees a screaming match over who supports the troops more and partly because MAF’s officers aren’t Iraq vets themselves so Soltz gets to play authoritative Iraq expert. (To Matthews’s credit, they had on Eric Egland from Vets for Freedom to oppose him last week, albeit on the subject of Pat Tillman.) Matthews got what he was looking for here, a de facto political ad for Hillary from Soltz so fulsome it would make Kirsten Powers blush followed by Patterson predictably calling her a socialist and “anti-American” followed inevitably by the war veteran/moral authority test of strength.
I’m not sure what Patterson’s getting at when he says he’s glad Soltz isn’t serving in Iraq right now, but in Soltz’s defense, it’s way out of line.
Incidentally, did you know both of these guys are vets? The lack of uniforms probably fooled you, huh?

Ya gotta read Patterson’s new book “War Crimes” about how the Dhimmis are and always have been trying to destroy our Military.
His previous book “Reckless Disregard” focuses on just Klinton. Buzz used to carry the Red Phone (aka the nuclear football) for Klinton.
Add Buzz to your book list.
Tony737 on August 9, 2007 at 9:10 AM
Everything Buzz says is true. In typical liberal fashion when they start to lose an argument bsed on facts they attempt to shout down the opponent, just like Soltz tried to do to that sergeant at the Kos convention.
There were no up armored HMMV’s in Bosnia/Kosovo, we didn’t have them in Somalia or Panama or anywhere else for that matter. They didn’t come into being until about a year or so into the Iraq campaign.
One thing the Clintons’ did do is gut the military in the 90’s and instead of doing real training it was replaced with things such as Consideration of Others training, which was basically a feel good group session to increase our sensitivity to others.
I speak from experience. I was in the Infantry from ‘77 - ‘99.
LakeRuins on August 9, 2007 at 9:16 AM
Fair or not, Soltz comes across as a jerk. Between this, and his hissy fit last week over the soldier at Kos, it becomes difficult for me to see why he is worth listening to.
nailinmyeye on August 9, 2007 at 9:21 AM
I was a little peeved at the way Soltz tried to convey the impression that he was leading troops into combat. The truth is he was CPT in a transportation unit I believe. The closet he got to Combat Arms soldiers was when he delivered the supplies. I don’t begrude him because of his views as much as I do him trying to inflate his role.
We had an old saying when I was in, there are 2 kind of people.
Eleven B’s (Infantry) and wannabees.
LakeRuins on August 9, 2007 at 9:25 AM
It may seem out of line but in reality I’m glad he’s not there either or any other of those votevets people. If you have a loved one there you don’t want to have also worry about those with a political agenda worrying more about that than what the mission is. I am serious about this. I know I’ll get some blowback for those statements and that’s fine, I expect it.
LakeRuins, I was there during the Clinton time too when the cuts started coming fast and furious. I remember being told by a Col to go down to another unit to get a few parts for various things because they weren’t getting ready to go to NTC and we were and getting down there to find out some other group had already gotten there. People think this is a crazy story but it’s true. I had friends who were Navy pilots and they were always talking about canabalizing planes to get ready for deployments. Yes, the Clinton Military Lab School for Social Consideration was silly at best. Luckily I wasn’t there for the whole thing but my husband was. He had planned on staying 30 years but will retire at 22 (which with his school he’s in now stretches his commitment to then) if Hillary is sitting in the big chair. He said he can’t do another 8 years of the Clintons.

Roger all you said. In Army Aviation the saying was, “There are two kinds of aircraft: guns and targets.

“Is Soltz getting a DOD paycheck?”
The best question of the interview!!!
DfDeportation on August 9, 2007 at 9:41 AM
The part about asking his current status was, at least to me, an attempt to do to him what he tried to do to that SGT. Buzz is a retired COL and that sort of trumps a CPT.
How did it feel Soltz?
LakeRuins on August 9, 2007 at 9:47 AM
Patterson’s Dereliction of Duty details his charges of anti-military animus displayed by the Clintons. But it also includes a significant amount of information on Hillary’s Imperial temperament, such as the fact that no junior staff were permitted in the hallways when she passed by, leading to staff diving through doorways to avoid being caught out, and her very angry dressing down of the Clenis whenever she thought he had mishandled some situation. A great read.

Soltz is a disgrace to the uniform. I don’t think Patterson was out of line at any point in that discussion, either.

Stupid question: What was the significance of asking if Soltz was getting a DOD paycheck?
Stormy70 on August 9, 2007 at 10:36 AM
soltz is a private citizen?
I thought he was still in the reserves.
ArmyAunt on August 9, 2007 at 10:38 AM
Soltz came across as a two-faced jerk. He refused to plainly state what Hillary was, choosing instead to be a soundboard for pro-Hillary doublespeak. Buzz Patterson is spot-on. “Dereliction of Duty” was an incredibly eye-opening memoir, and speaks volumes of The King and Queen of EuroAmerica.
Patterson was going a little over the line, but Soltz’s unmitigated gall at challenging Buzz’s war record easily provoked it.
MadisonConservative on August 9, 2007 at 10:42 AM
You really have to wonder what is out there in the water that it is creating loudmouth loons like Jon Soltz. This is the kind of guy that cries out for a re-issuing of The Geraldo Show, just so you would have the opportunity of throwing a chair at him if he happened to be a guest!
pilamaye on August 9, 2007 at 10:47 AM
Solz is a typical arrogant Yankee prick. He’s the type of Jack-Ass who thinks the people in the Northeastern states still run the country. He also thinks we’re stupid enough to fall for his bullsh*t when he comes out in support of Democratic candidates like Hillary.
There isn’t a single politician in the Democratic party who gives a rats ass about the future and security of this country more than they do their own career.
F OFF AND DIE TO BOTH OF THESE F*CKTARDS.
thareb on August 9, 2007 at 10:57 AM
O.K. That helps!!!
I’m still grasping for straws here, trying to get off on a cheerful note!!
P.S. I don’t get off on Olbygasms and Hardball.
Mcguyver on August 9, 2007 at 11:04 AM
Why is that anti-war vets seems to mention their service more than anyone else? There was a guy on O’Reilly last night who was for stopping people from enlisting in military and every other thing he said was, “I’m a nine year vet.” And then there’s John Kerry…
frankj on August 9, 2007 at 11:04 AM
The only difference between Jon Soltz and John Kerry is that maybe Soltz kicked a little more ass overseas than Kerry did.
Other than that they can’t wait to use their military careers as an excuse to come back home and stab us all in the back.

You know we were living out in HI when another member of their merry band of peaceniks was running for office. That Tammy Duckworth is from HI originally and the local paper was running articles once or twice a week for about a month concerned that the Army would not retire/discharge her in time for her to file her papers to run for Henry Hyde’s old seat in IL. She ultimately got out in time and lost but now is the Vet Affairs person for the State of IL. My cousins who are Viet Nam vets think she’s shameful. She told one of them who lost an arm and two legs in that war that her service was more vital to the country. He just sat there and his son who is also serving and happen to be home at the time just laughed at her.
As for why these anti-war vets seems to belittle those who didn’t serve, I don’t get it either. We were told ad nauseum that it didn’t matter that Clinton didn’t serve or that he once said “loathed the military”. That guy on O’Reilly was really spinning, if I had been Bill I would have cut him off the second time he asked him about the surge and not given him another shot at it. He was really a jerk.

When the legitimacy of your argument and morality of your position are severely lacking, you need all the help you can get. That’s why.

Hardball crashed my pc 2/3 thru the clip, but I saw enough to know Soltz is, (in the words of Triumph the comic insult dog): ‘Good enough, to poop on’…wait a minute, maybe he isn’t.
I don’t understand why AP had to drag that over-lip-glossed moron Kirsten Powers into his assessment of this train wreck and why would a conservative (is AP a conserv?) defend Soltz, who is obviously a well-paid handiwipe for HRC?
I do understand why Buzz would say that he is glad that this seditious Clinton lover isn’t serving in Iraq: he would work for the enemies of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, not just the US military.
Christine on August 9, 2007 at 1:14 PM
Also, what Soltz is participating in here is double-speak; he’s lying thru his teeth while everyone who knows and supports the Clintons are aware that they will go back to cutting the military and will inevitably cut and run from the WOT. Cowardly is as cowardly does.
Only deranged people can tolerate such hideous mixed messages AND the idea of the Clintons back in the White House.
Christine on August 9, 2007 at 1:20 PM
God bless you and yours for your selfless service to me and mine.
csdeven on August 9, 2007 at 1:21 PM
She pulled him aside at an event and asked him if he was going to stay in the Army? Was he in uniform at this event? Had he already started his political organization at that time? How did Hilary know who he was.
Man do I hate hypocritical liberal weasels.

Christoph on August 9, 2007 at 4:35 PM
And so is Stolzs. Good one on Hardball of finding that dufus to represent the right.
Christoph on August 9, 2007 at 4:36 PM
Soltz may have set a new Guinness world oxymoron’s record both in quantity and in depth of myopia.
Soltz also shows the typical ‘little picture’ view put forth by most fringe libs.
Patterson worked in the Whitehouse while Hillary was there and was fully involved with the ‘big picture’ view necessary to run operations with but that doesn’t matter to Soltz who obviously knows better because he’s met Hillary and she’s a great military leader, yeah right.
Patterson is right Billary is a anti American hard core socialist in disguise.
Speakup on August 9, 2007 at 4:38 PM
Soltz is a total douchebag.

It’s nice to see somebody standing up to that back stabber Jon Soltz.
