Open thread: Are you ready for the hardest hitting Democratic debate questions ever? Update: Video — Hillary booed

7 p.m. ET on MSNBC. You’re our eyes and ears. If you see something clipworthy, shoot us an e-mail. We shouldn’t want for highlights, as they can’t be possibly be prepared for the withering fire they’ll be taking from a man with a guest list like this. I predicted last month that he’d attack from the left but in hindsight that seems silly. The waterboy would never put down his bucket long enough to throw them a hardball. Possible opening question: “When, precisely, do you think the president should resign?”

Update (Bryan):
I’m not going to liveblog the debate, but at 7:21 Richardson said he’d fire a whole bunch of government lawyers for political reasons (union busting or something like that). Isn’t that what the Democrats are accusing Bush of doing — firing government lawyers for political reasons?

Update: Zzzzzzz.

Biden comes over very strong and knowledgeable.

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:25 PM

Dodd tries to pander about unionizing Homeland Security and it falls flat.

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:25 PM

Obama’s in the race for me, for ME.

Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 8:24 PM

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:26 PM

What are any of them talking aboot?

askheaves on August 7, 2007 at 8:26 PM

Too bad for Dennis that all these bills he keeps mentioning are sitting in his desk collecting dust, but at least he HAS them.

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 8:26 PM

I hope Biden is the dem nominee.

csdeven on August 7, 2007 at 8:25 PM

I hope it’s Obama; even Ron Paul could beat him. (jk)

IrishEi on August 7, 2007 at 8:27 PM

Kucinich=ManChild

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:27 PM

Shorter version of Kucinich (if that’s possible)…I introduced bills and even the Democrats won’t vote for it.

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:27 PM

dodd is a dud!

aqvik on August 7, 2007 at 8:27 PM

Dennis is 3rd tier and sounds like it

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:27 PM

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:27 PM

Barry Bonds is relevant how?

csdeven on August 7, 2007 at 8:27 PM

What kind of a soft ball is this Bonds question?

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:27 PM

Can Kucinich get some clothes that fit?

JetBoy on August 7, 2007 at 8:27 PM

Dennis’ shirt sleeves make him look like he came in his father’s suit.

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:28 PM

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:24 PM

i really think it would be instrucive to p[oll the crowd about whether they feel that question was conspicuous in its abcence.

i think it must have been quite an editorial feat to keep that question out of this.

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 8:28 PM

a barry bonds question – how is that relevant

aqvik on August 7, 2007 at 8:28 PM

Barry ducks the Bond question…weak

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:28 PM

Bonds???????????

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 8:28 PM

Well Ron Paul is unbeatible as long as you hold the election online and it lasts about three years to give his supporters plenty of time to send in their votes over and over again,

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 8:28 PM

Can Kucinich get some clothes that fit?

JetBoy on August 7, 2007 at 8:27 PM

i think he’s like 4′8″. so, no.

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 8:29 PM

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:29 PM

Man, I just want this over…

Wait, I have a button for just such occasions.

askheaves on August 7, 2007 at 8:29 PM

Question to the next President: Would you start Tim Lincecum in place of Barry Zito with only three days’ rest?

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 8:29 PM

i really think it would be instrucive to p[oll the crowd about whether they feel that question was conspicuous in its abcence.

i think it must have been quite an editorial feat to keep that question out of this.

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 8:28 PM

I won’t happen unless a conservative polling entity does it. This is one of those Jedi mind tricks the Dems do so well on their own base.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:29 PM

hillary..you want katrina reports every single day? you know nothing about executive management. or engineering, i might add.

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:29 PM

Biden has done that before and got free press for it. I guess he thinks he might get it again

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:30 PM

Hillary would put somebody in charge. Um, ok.

Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 8:30 PM

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 8:30 PM

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:33 PM

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:34 PM

csdeven on August 7, 2007 at 8:34 PM

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 8:36 PM

Hey, Dennis bobs

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:36 PM

These debates/forums are very painful to watch but absolutely unbearable without Mike Gravel.

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:36 PM

OK, so who won?

I like Biden

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:36 PM

Hillary! was ‘majestic’. What is Matthews smoking?

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:37 PM

Hillary was “majestic” according to spittle man.

IrishEi on August 7, 2007 at 8:37 PM

Mike Gravel.

IrishEi on August 7, 2007 at 8:38 PM

I heard the same thing!

Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 8:34 PM

That’s a bit anti-American for a presidential hopeful to say, isn’t it? I doubt many will pick up on it.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:38 PM

Bush poll numbers going up

http://blogs.usatoday.com/gallup/2007/08/a-hint-of-more-.html

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:38 PM

SA hillary left the stage a whisper was heard from the queen of hearts of “Off with their heads” as she passed the other Democratic candidates.

No one knew what responce mad hatter Kucinich had to that.

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 8:38 PM

whose line was that again?

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:37 PM

Edward R Murrow.

Also, I think Fred! won that mother.

askheaves on August 7, 2007 at 8:39 PM

OK, so who won?

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:36 PM

This is a trick question, right? It’s Ron Paul.

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:39 PM

Edward R. Murrow use to say goodnight and good luck

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:40 PM

96 minutes of my life I’ll never get back.

IrishEi on August 7, 2007 at 8:40 PM

Al Gore won the “forum.” It’s an inconvenient turth.

CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 8:41 PM

Well, AP, this entire charade is chock full of nutrooty commentary, hypocrisy, lies and nonsensical pandering. Take your pick on the choice clips…there are many.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:41 PM

I saw every one of them flinch when the fireworks going off. Not so much because they were startled, or they feared the immediate physical danger of a terrorist attack…

In their eyes, you could see the dreadful, sinking feeling, for an instant, that all their retreatful rhetoric could be suddenly catching up with them.

askheaves on August 7, 2007 at 8:43 PM

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:41 PM

Yup. Ward Churchill would be envious (of the wealth of material available … that he could steal).

CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 8:44 PM

Keith Olbermann working secretly for the clinton campaign is caught asking John Edwards a question after the debate

“Ok john when did you become a woman and when did you first realize it ? At what hair saloon ?”

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 8:44 PM

Buh-bye. We really MUSTN’T do this again some time.

CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 8:45 PM

That’s a bit anti-American for a presidential hopeful to say, isn’t it? I doubt many will pick up on it.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:38 PM

One of the underlying dangers of Democratic President. ‘Member Hillary called for removing electoral college?

Don’t get my vote by saying – trust me to uphold that which I’ll change.

Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 8:47 PM

i”m going to ride past. i expect to see tailgate fights.

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 8:47 PM

It makes me sad to say this, but the more of these debates I see, the more I realize that Hilliary! is the best of the worst. I love how she gets booed for effectivly saying how we should prevent al-qaeda (or however the hell you spell it) from taking over Pakistan. Those people in the crowd make me sick.

AndrewGurn on August 7, 2007 at 8:47 PM

It’s funny how the dems have been riding Bush for 2 years because he has alienated the world, and now they want to bomb one of the only allies we have. AND their idiot supporters are oblivious!

csdeven on August 7, 2007 at 8:50 PM

OK, so who won?
bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:36 PM

Anyone who didn’t watch it!

csdeven on August 7, 2007 at 8:51 PM

csdeven on August 7, 2007 at 8:50 PM

Well its a good thing that foreign policy isn’t going to play a major role in the next administration.

Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 8:51 PM

Update: Zzzzzzz.

Z? You kidding!? That was actually relatively exciting, watching them stomp the Fresh Prince of Chicago in to the ground the way they did. Hillary dealt a KO there, but it would have been better if they’d mentioned the photos we’ve seen (though I’m sure Obama’s camp has shielded him from) of the burning (literally) outrage caused by his comments.

Also, I would say “this makes it tough for her to make him her VP later on”, but as we know, the media will have a short memory and they won’t be held to account. Hell, as I’ve pointed out repeatedly, John Edwards was a pro-war guy in the 2004 election, claiming Bush didn’t mislead him and he’d have acted the same way with respect to the UN had he been president… But Kerry’s pollsters told him that Edwards was his best choice (Kerry, ever the principled one), and the media never busted them for disagreements later on.

RightWinged on August 7, 2007 at 9:40 PM

Hillary! was ‘majestic’. What is Matthews smoking?

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:37 PM

His desire of the sun never setting on imperial loftyness, or

belonging to or befitting a supreme ruler; “golden age of imperial splendor”; “purple tyrant”; “regal attire”; “treated with royal acclaim”; “the royal carriage of a stag’s head”

Anyone who didn’t watch it!

csdeven on August 7, 2007 at 8:51 PM

I won, I won :) Be well csd.

Entelechy on August 7, 2007 at 9:42 PM

When Clinton actually makes sense in her remarks, the left boos her… is that not the epitome of modern day liberalism and the emergence of the nutroots?

Opinionnation on August 7, 2007 at 9:55 PM

It is.
