Open thread: Are you ready for the hardest hitting Democratic debate questions ever? Update: Video — Hillary booed

7 p.m. ET on MSNBC. You’re our eyes and ears. If you see something clipworthy, shoot us an e-mail. We shouldn’t want for highlights, as they can’t be possibly be prepared for the withering fire they’ll be taking from a man with a guest list like this. I predicted last month that he’d attack from the left but in hindsight that seems silly. The waterboy would never put down his bucket long enough to throw them a hardball. Possible opening question: “When, precisely, do you think the president should resign?”

Update (Bryan):
I’m not going to liveblog the debate, but at 7:21 Richardson said he’d fire a whole bunch of government lawyers for political reasons (union busting or something like that). Isn’t that what the Democrats are accusing Bush of doing — firing government lawyers for political reasons?

Update: Zzzzzzz.

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:02 PM

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 8:03 PM

Silky: Bless you crying crippled guy fo asking a question that I have a pre-prepared flimsy answer for.

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 8:03 PM

Why doesn’t the AFL-CIO pony up for all this health care this guy needs? Why don’t these people ever wonder where their dues go?

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:03 PM

After all the nit-picking of the Republican candidates, an event like this makes you realise…it could be much, much worse.

billy on August 7, 2007 at 8:03 PM

They get a uniform allowance for that stuff.

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:02 PM

We’re just going to ignore that inconvenient truth to make our point, mmmmkay?

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:03 PM

You only a military hero for the democrats if you hate the military and want to see it defeated or want to talk to Noam Chomski

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 8:03 PM

as Edwards goes home to one of his mansions on his private jet

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:03 PM

uhh…this guy is not eligible for any of the existing aid programs? That means he’s making too much somehow.

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:03 PM

How wimpy is Olbermann? Silky just shut him down.

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:04 PM

This is so not a debate.

EnochCain on August 7, 2007 at 8:02 PM

oh, this is a million miles from “debate”.

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 8:04 PM

Che’ Edwards!

commonsensehoosier on August 7, 2007 at 8:04 PM

Why doesn’t the AFL-CIO pony up for all this health care this guy needs? Why don’t these people ever wonder where their dues go?

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:03 PM

Now now you cant take away Organized labors bibe money that Silky doesnt think is special interest money.

Means they’d have to ask more corporations for money.

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 8:05 PM

Hillary just “confirmed” that Bush collapses mines.

Preach it, sister! You go, girl!

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:05 PM

I WANT to privatize social security.

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 8:05 PM

I can’t watch, I’m still at work. Has Olberdouche offered to fellate any of the candidates yet? Did he offer to start with Hillary?

He’s fumunda. I doubt I’ll be watching the NFL on NBC this season.

Brass Pair on August 7, 2007 at 8:06 PM

right. let’s all close our eyes to the possibility that the unions are the ones forcing these companies into bankruptcy. So, we’ll be subsidizing your too-high-for-market wages and benefits.

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:06 PM

we have a strong economy, RIGHT NOW you dumb broad.

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 8:06 PM

“probably”?

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 8:06 PM

Silky: Bless you crying crippled guy fo asking a question that I have a pre-prepared flimsy answer for.

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 8:03 PM

Eh, a pre-prepared flimsy answer delivered with phony emotion.

Oh, lord, Hillary’s a “sister” again…ugh.

Nichevo on August 7, 2007 at 8:06 PM

no applause.

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 8:07 PM

EnochCain on August 7, 2007 at 8:02 PM

It says forum at the bottom of the screen.

Nonfactor on August 7, 2007 at 8:07 PM

A LEGAL immigrant? Why are they letting HIM ask a question?

CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 8:08 PM

“ceasar chavez” “wet line”

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 8:08 PM

1st time immigration has come up at any of the Dem debates…the silence shows what a bad issue it is for Dems. Too bad there aren’t any electable Repubs who can exploit this.

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:08 PM

It says forum at the bottom of the screen.

a funny thing happened on the way to the forum tonight. Democrats lost the truth on the way in.

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 8:08 PM

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:09 PM

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 8:08 PM

I was answering a question there, buddy. No reason to start an argument.

Nonfactor on August 7, 2007 at 8:09 PM

no, not millions of unemployed, and certainly not in the medical industry. but you’d love that to be true.

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:09 PM

I can feel my pockets emptying just listening to these guys.

IrishEi on August 7, 2007 at 8:09 PM

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 8:08 PM

Make that clearing up a statement.

Nonfactor on August 7, 2007 at 8:09 PM

Bill O just called KP crazy and hurt her feelings.

Laura Schwartz is a tool.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:09 PM

Who said I was arguing I was agreeing with you

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 8:10 PM

Biden had a cranial aneurysm: that explains a lot.

Nichevo on August 7, 2007 at 8:10 PM

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:08 PM

i say let it be a big labor issue.

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 8:10 PM

What happened to Mike Gravel? Did he get lost on the way over?

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:11 PM

God help the democrat candidate who hasn’t walked some pickets with a union.

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:11 PM

Good intentions are a far better motivator than profit margins.

askheaves on August 7, 2007 at 8:11 PM

Bill O just called KP crazy and hurt her feelings.

Laura Schwartz is a tool.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:09 PM

Same-o-same-o huh?

CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 8:11 PM

Edwards: “I spend so much time pandering, I barely have time for pampering… myself…”

askheaves on August 7, 2007 at 8:12 PM

BRASS PAIR…I tried e-mailing NBC Sports about me NOT watching Sunday Night Football if Olberdouche is co-hosting. The e mail address is invalid…on their website.
Go Figure..

commonsensehoosier on August 7, 2007 at 8:12 PM

i’m saying, kucinnich knows how to bark at a union hall audience.

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 8:12 PM

putting heath care in the…kitchen? Not for profit? wtg dennis.

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:12 PM

What happened to Mike Gravel? Did he get lost on the way over?

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:11 PM

He went to Atlanta feild by mistake and he is debating if Mick Vick cause us to get into the veitnam war by letting loose the dogs of war

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 8:12 PM

Edwards is STILL standing in a picket line, he just doesn’t know it.

CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 8:12 PM

What happened to Mike Gravel? Did he get lost on the way over?

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:11 PM

He’s throwing a rock in the lake out back…

JetBoy on August 7, 2007 at 8:12 PM

I’ve crossed a picket line in Chicago. Just want to throw that out there.

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:13 PM

holee sheee*t!

alright. that was one actual “question”.

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 8:13 PM

Did Silky just use the word “scab?”

Who does he think he is, Tom Joad?

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 8:13 PM

Picket lines, picket lines — who’s been on the most picket lines? Me! Gawd, is Edward’s voice irritating.

Nichevo on August 7, 2007 at 8:14 PM

Labor hates Joe Biden. A lot.

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:14 PM

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:13 PM

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 8:14 PM

biden booed again.

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:14 PM

Looks like these candidate have Picket envy.

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 8:14 PM

Listening to these clowns pander to unions is sickening.

csdeven on August 7, 2007 at 8:14 PM

biden picketed his nodes at least a hundred tiomes more than edwards.

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 8:15 PM

jummy. we’re cockaroach brothers.

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:15 PM

csdeven on August 7, 2007 at 8:14 PM

No kidding.

EnochCain on August 7, 2007 at 8:15 PM

Anyone notice the crowd boo those who don’t answer the question. Dodd and Biden for example

flyboy777 on August 7, 2007 at 8:15 PM

Democrats are for ‘energy independence’. Drilling in ANWAR? Eh, not so much.

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:15 PM

Did someone just jack up the audio whilst Dodd was speaking?

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 8:15 PM

Darn its almostl like the Wizard of Oz. Democrat tell you to click your heels three times and you’ll be back and Kansas and everything will be alright and Hillary is really a good witch.

Just nobody throw water on her

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 8:15 PM

dodd…nice magic economics fella. taxing polluters will pay to find the pot of gold at the end of the energy rainbow. keep telling yourself that.

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:16 PM

Hillary looks BAD. The bags under her eyes look like she packed for a month.

csdeven on August 7, 2007 at 8:16 PM

A guy who installs energy-efficient insulation wants to know what they’ll do to ensure his job. Uh, no, what they’ll do to conserve energy, or something like that…yay, Hillary will put him to work!

Nichevo on August 7, 2007 at 8:17 PM

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:15 PM

Nuclear energy neither.

csdeven on August 7, 2007 at 8:17 PM

its almost like the Wizard of Oz.
William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 8:15 PM

Dennis would make a good munchkin.

CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 8:17 PM

hillary getting heckled. tough to pick a winner in this @ss kissing contest.

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:17 PM

Hillary must have some set of lungs. She can pump out about 200 words without taking a breath–just gets shriller and shriller until she finally runs out of air.

IrishEi on August 7, 2007 at 8:17 PM

This stadium thing is an awful setting for Hillary! She had done well in the previous debates by not being so shrill but the setting and the union thugs shouting force her to GO UP A FEW OCTIVES INTO THE REALLY ANNOYING RANGE.

My guess is some advance flunky has hit ripped out and shoved down his throat tonight.

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:18 PM

These candidates gonna break into a round of “Look for…the union label…” at the close of this sham?

JetBoy on August 7, 2007 at 8:18 PM

Hillary just slammed “no child left behind.” Anybody remember, that ironically, she used to be it’s biggest champion back in Bubba’s administration.

CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 8:18 PM

Hillary is grotesque in every sense of the word…ideologically, morally, physically.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:19 PM

on the internet feed, we’re getting backroom chatter during the commercial. They can’t turn the mike off?

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:19 PM

I wonder if MSNBC used union people to set up the stage, rig the lights and hang the loudspeakers?

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 8:19 PM

If there was EVER a one issue voting block, it is the union idiots.

csdeven on August 7, 2007 at 8:20 PM

on the msnbc page, below the video window, top editor’s pick: “Is global warming to blame for extreme weather?”

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:20 PM

Union GOOOOOD….Bush BAAAAAAAD!

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:20 PM

Keith tells lame joke, no laugh. Richardson tells lame Cheney joke gets laugh. Life isn’t fair.

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:21 PM

“when more than 30% of our children graduate gradeschool reading and performing math at grade-level, that means millions fewer dues-paying schlubs!!!

“bush diabolicly wants to “impose” on teachers the requirement that they teach our children so he can kill organized labor.

“we must drive test scores lower and unionize the service industries!”

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 8:21 PM

I was hoping lighting round would mean someone getting hit by lightning.

TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:21 PM

bad answer from Hillary. Makes people think of trading dynasties

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:22 PM

The president of Canada?
Posted: Tuesday, August 07, 2007 7:54 PM by Mark Murray

Categories: Democratic debates

From NBC’s Mark Murray
We missed it earlier, but it has been brought to our attention that Obama referred to the “president” of Canada when talking about NAFTA — when that country actually has a prime minister.

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 8:22 PM

Obama is really too green

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:23 PM

Silky rationalizes his hypocrisy

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:23 PM

“Trial lawyers are very different than lobbyists”

Silky is funny.

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 8:23 PM

More and more, Obama looks like he’s in waaaay over his head.

JetBoy on August 7, 2007 at 8:23 PM

Edwards should not have mentioned lawyers.

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:24 PM

Olby comes down HARD on Edwards.
Whodathunkit.

CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 8:24 PM

I’m still not hearing anyone standing up for all of those harmless illegal workers, doing the jobs that this audience won’t do.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:24 PM

Obama’s in the race for me, for ME.

Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 8:24 PM

Trial lawyers are so much more moral than lobbyists. Oh, yes, they are! Silky pony millionaire says so!

Nichevo on August 7, 2007 at 8:24 PM

Biden thinks he’s gonna get a consensus. Bwahahahahaha!

IrishEi on August 7, 2007 at 8:25 PM

I hope Biden is the dem nominee.

csdeven on August 7, 2007 at 8:25 PM

I’m still not hearing anyone standing up for all of those harmless illegal workers, doing the jobs that this audience won’t do.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:24 PM

GLARINGLY absent, I’d say.
