Open thread: Are you ready for the hardest hitting Democratic debate questions ever? Update: Video — Hillary booed

7 p.m. ET on MSNBC. You’re our eyes and ears. If you see something clipworthy, shoot us an e-mail. We shouldn’t want for highlights, as they can’t be possibly be prepared for the withering fire they’ll be taking from a man with a guest list like this. I predicted last month that he’d attack from the left but in hindsight that seems silly. The waterboy would never put down his bucket long enough to throw them a hardball. Possible opening question: “When, precisely, do you think the president should resign?”
Update (Bryan): I’m not going to liveblog the debate, but at 7:21 Richardson said he’d fire a whole bunch of government lawyers for political reasons (union busting or something like that). Isn’t that what the Democrats are accusing Bush of doing — firing government lawyers for political reasons?
Update: Zzzzzzz.

I think the Koran is in his pocket next to Mao’s Little Red Book.

‘if we followed my judgment at the time we wouldn’t be in Iraq”.
Um, Barry…you were a State Senator in Illinois. Why would we care what you thought then?
Drew on August 7, 2007 at 7:39 PM
Does Obama know anything about foreign policy….
And Biden….”what matters is how we got in Iraq”…Oh, brother….
JetBoy on August 7, 2007 at 7:39 PM
sounds like Hillary isn’t in much of a hurry to get out of Iraq, am I wrong?
bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 7:41 PM
Olby said that Al-Qaeda would take over “against all prediction.”
Who’s predictions?
HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 7:41 PM
I love the way Keith keeps insulting the question. How it’s impossible that AQ could have a victory in Iraq if we leave.
How can he ask questions with his head up his ass?
Drew on August 7, 2007 at 7:41 PM
Dodd: We support the troops, not the war. In other words, “you guys are great, but you couldn’t possibly win with the Dems undermining your efforts, so it isn’t your fault”.
PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:41 PM
Sadly she seems to be most serious of the bunch
Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 7:41 PM
Al Queda does, against all prediction, take over? That IS the prediction, idiot Keith. What a jerk.
CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:41 PM
yeah I caught that too…Olby is some moderate moderater, eh?
JetBoy on August 7, 2007 at 7:42 PM
Edwards doesn’t know what he is talking about
bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 7:42 PM
Hillary is trangulating. She wants to appear to be on all sides of an issue
Silky is only worried if being president will upset his haircare routine and Barack isnt even sure where the White House is yet.
William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:42 PM
Yeah, right- you want us to watch it ans send any noteworthy clips? I don’t think so, mister. That’s what we don’t pay you to do.
Hollowpoint on August 7, 2007 at 7:43 PM
Olby is not doing Obama any favors tonight.
PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:44 PM
Am I wrong, or is Olby a Hillary fan?
JetBoy on August 7, 2007 at 7:44 PM
How exactly did Obama get his reputation as a stirring speaker? Forget the content of what he says, he’s not a very good speaker.
Drew on August 7, 2007 at 7:44 PM
Obama isn’t saying anything
bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 7:44 PM
What???…bring the troops home so we can stabilize Iraq?!
EnochCain on August 7, 2007 at 7:45 PM
Edwards says;
“I would address the possibility of genocide in Irag if we withdraw”
Um….hey Johnny.. We conservatives have been saying that to you dingbats on the left for oh about a year now!
186k on August 7, 2007 at 7:45 PM
As big of an arse kisser that Olby is towards Bill Clinton I wonder why ?
William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:45 PM
Am I wrong, or is Olby a Hillary fan?
JetBoy on August 7, 2007 at 7:44 PM
LOL! Anyone want to enlighten him?
CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 7:45 PM
no joke
Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 7:45 PM
That’s only because hubby Bill is quietly coaching her thru a tiny earpiece. Unfortunately, when she seems most moderate is when she hears Bill saying “That’s it, baby….nice and easy…oh yeah, that’s it….mmmmm”….
PatrickS on August 7, 2007 at 7:46 PM
Dennis said the the people want a President who “will make the right decision the first time.”
So the people want a psychic?
I’m not a psychic but I can predict Dennis not switching residences from Cleveland to DC before hell freezes over.
HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 7:46 PM
time for the 2nd tier to drop out of all these debates.
bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 7:46 PM
Oprah says so and thats good enough for the MSM
William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:46 PM
Obama thinks troop withdrawal will stabilize Iraq? Wow.
Hillary supports our troops, she just doesn’t want to fund our troops because voting against said funding sends a message to Bush. Nice. I bet she opted for the magnetic “Support our Troops” trunk ribbon so that it could be removed and applied when necessary without the permanence of that nasty adhesive.
PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:47 PM
this might be a good time for this story.
i recently moved to the area just south of the loop known as bridgeport. bridgeport is the stronghold of the democrat labor machine. it’s where the cdot guys and garbage pickup guys live. it’s where the city employees who have to comply with residence laws live. lots of cops. where daley lived until recently. this is where the democrat party base lives. i bet no less than 20% of the people in that crowd tonight come from within a mile of me.
in any case, one day months ago, i went out to pick a wateringhole. i walked into this one bar and ordered a drink only to realize that strangers weren’t welcome there. finally this one old guy got curious enough to strike up a conversation.
he spoke about his kids and the conversation soon swung in a candid direction i didn’t anticipate or appreciate, but which i wasn’t altogether surprised by.
“my son’s just got on the job. you know, these guys at the plumbers’ union: they’re smart. they had my kid taking triginometry and… what’s that sh*t? i dunno. i’ll tell you what, they keep these n****rs waiting in the union hall. they keep the cert requirments just up here, you know?”
that’s the democrat base. those are the voices ou hear braying in the staium there. and that’s the mentality you can count on to elect hiliary over obama.
jummy on August 7, 2007 at 7:47 PM
I can’t take anymore…
heatherrc77 on August 7, 2007 at 7:48 PM
Deal with AQ but without troops?..brilliant.
EnochCain on August 7, 2007 at 7:48 PM
That would be all of them. They have no top tier.
CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:48 PM
Obama is not ready for prime time
bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 7:48 PM
Obama makes a very good argument in defending himself against Dodd & Clinton
186k on August 7, 2007 at 7:49 PM
Hillary! bitch slaps Barry. This just got interesting.
Drew on August 7, 2007 at 7:49 PM
Heh. This is a tough show.
Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 7:49 PM
The 2 grownups on the stage are Hillary and Biden
bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 7:50 PM
Wow. Hillary actually made a little sense—and they booed here. (re Pakistan)
IrishEi on August 7, 2007 at 7:50 PM
How hard is it to defend your self from senile and denial ?
William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:50 PM
Actually she is right. I must shower now for saying that now.
CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:50 PM
Someone gag Olby and let ‘em all go after each other…
JetBoy on August 7, 2007 at 7:50 PM
Dang. Hillary just got up in BO’s grill.
Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 7:51 PM
186k,
Obama has painted himself into a corner. Not good in a debate. Not good in a president.
bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 7:51 PM
The only difference between an Iraq with our troops patrolling the streets and an Iraq with peacekeepers is that our troops will shoot back. AQ probably thinks those powder blue helmets make good target practice.
HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 7:51 PM
The fact that Olbermann is so bad at this actually works. It enables the candidates to beat each other up. Thank God for Keith’s incompetence.
Drew on August 7, 2007 at 7:51 PM
I’m a fan of that.
Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 7:51 PM
If I were Mushareff, I would tell Obama to bite me. Get your hands off my country. I think he already has, but he needs to do it again.
CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:51 PM
Hillary smells blood. Obama is hemoraging right now and she wants the kill.
A candidate with a more “Deer in the headlights look” I have never seen.
William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:52 PM
Yup. The Dhimmicrats have saddled us with YET ANOTHER splendid “debate format.” This whole thing s*cks SO BAD.
CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 7:52 PM
Obama spoke alliances broke!
EnochCain on August 7, 2007 at 7:52 PM
I would actually pay real money to see that!
jdawg on August 7, 2007 at 7:52 PM
He’s not ready for Public Access at 4am on Sunday morning.
Drew on August 7, 2007 at 7:52 PM
IrishEi,
I wouldn’t put much credence in how many bo’s a person gets here. There are enough candidate shills in the audience that the audience’s reaction doesn’t mean much.
bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 7:53 PM
I’d agree with all above who say Obama was hurt by this.
PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:53 PM
Obama sounds like a jerk, but they’re loving him.
Obamarama Luv Fest. Just wow.
IrishEi on August 7, 2007 at 7:53 PM
Remember this is who the Dems want to be our president. This is the best they have to offer
William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:53 PM
Do not take Cialis while married to Hillary Clinton. Side effects of Cialis while married to Hillary Clinton may include desire to have sex with Hillary Clinton.
askheaves on August 7, 2007 at 7:53 PM
He’s got the crowd on his side tho’.
Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 7:53 PM
Nah he would like it. palomino!
EnochCain on August 7, 2007 at 7:53 PM
This is one time I think she should be let off the chain and go for it. Obama is starting to really damage the country if he continues in this manner. He needs to understand free speech also includes the right to remain silent.
CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:54 PM
People like the idea of a Hillary/Obama ticket, but after what I have seen so far tonight, I don’t know that she would pick him.
bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 7:54 PM
That is what is so disturbing.
PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:54 PM
Well its in Illinois I guess they figured that Obama needed a home feild advantage
William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:54 PM
Ha, the drug is not that strong.
Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 7:54 PM
It’s an Obama crowd; rooting for the home team, whoop! whoop!
Nichevo on August 7, 2007 at 7:54 PM
Maybe with normal Americans but not the nutroots and the labor voters in the crowd.
Drew on August 7, 2007 at 7:54 PM
EnochCain on August 7, 2007 at 7:53 PM
Heh.
jdawg on August 7, 2007 at 7:54 PM
so, i’m thinking AP was right the first time. not a challenge in the house.
jummy on August 7, 2007 at 7:55 PM
This is an audience full of folks who would gladly drop to their knees and bury their faces in the lap of any candidate who uses the words “worker” and “out-sourcing.”
HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 7:55 PM
Bush killed her husband!…OMG!!
EnochCain on August 7, 2007 at 7:55 PM
Hometown crowd may like him, but his performance tonight was embarrassing.
PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:56 PM
george bush collapses mines.
jummy on August 7, 2007 at 7:56 PM
Jummy, I was just laughing at the same thing!
PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:56 PM
Oh right, Bush killed her husband.
I’d like to feel sorry for her but please. I can’t believe that Sen. Byrd didn’t have pork to solve it.
Biden just made a big mistake by blowing the widow off for Pakistan. Yikes. Idiot.
Drew on August 7, 2007 at 7:56 PM
Biden: Mines…segue into Iraq…and get booed.
Way to ignore the question Joe.
HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 7:57 PM
PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:56 PM
Agreed
Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 7:57 PM

Biden gets boos!!!
commonsensehoosier on August 7, 2007 at 7:57 PM
does anyone have handy the graph showing that mine accidents have decreased steadily by a breadth of 15% since 1998.
jummy on August 7, 2007 at 7:57 PM
sounds like a prize fight
bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 7:57 PM
boooed! lol
TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 7:57 PM
Illinois. The state who;s two senators are Barack Obama and Dick Durban
And we wonder why the crowd of dems there are reacting they way they do ?
William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:57 PM
Way to go Olby! You’re such a great and generous guy! Not everyone would go on television and donate to a charity right in the middle of an interview. A lesser man would’ve waited till he was off the air, but not you! Credit where credit is due, right on! Wow, and you made Bill Clinton cry too! I haven’t seen tears like that since the Ron Brown funeral.
Stop sucking up to your pop idols and report the news, maybe then you can criticize Chris Wallace. Get on a network people actually watch, then maybe you can take swipes at Fox. Otherwise shutup, you sound like an imbittered buffoon. Pipsqueek.
srhoades on August 7, 2007 at 7:58 PM
um. what rights did she think she lost?
TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 7:58 PM
Come on we all know that’s Cheney’s job.
Drew on August 7, 2007 at 7:58 PM
His job moved to Mexico?…it didn’t have to! The Mexicans will come here for it!
EnochCain on August 7, 2007 at 7:58 PM
kucinich is deeply in his element here.
jummy on August 7, 2007 at 7:59 PM
Oh, oh, Biden put his foot in it: not sympathizing with the poor widow (whose husband was killed by Bush, of course) but going off on the Paki issue.
Joe, Joe, where are your priorities? Play the crowd, Joe! /sarc
Nichevo on August 7, 2007 at 7:59 PM
D’oh! I forgot. At least that explains some of the “luv”.
IrishEi on August 7, 2007 at 7:59 PM
They held a democatic debate and a truther convention broke out
Story at 11
William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:59 PM
There’s a lot of shucking of nutroots positions out there. It’s fun hearing the boos.
‘What do you people want from me?’
askheaves on August 7, 2007 at 8:00 PM
Kucinich channeling hoffa! priceless
commonsensehoosier on August 7, 2007 at 8:00 PM
“Many of the are at work…”
On their computers….sending questions in….not…working…
JetBoy on August 7, 2007 at 8:00 PM
you mean gloves?
jummy on August 7, 2007 at 8:01 PM
Dodd is the military hero of this bunch? Nice.
He just slammed the Army, too. Double nice.
PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 8:01 PM
High five buddy.
HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 8:01 PM
Not like they will be able to fire them for it.
EnochCain on August 7, 2007 at 8:01 PM
no no JetBoy. It’s those unionized white collar workers.
TexasDan on August 7, 2007 at 8:01 PM
the questioner was not talking about protection, but was talking about stuff for the uniform. Like badges. They get a uniform allowance for that stuff.
bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 8:02 PM
Moral authority card.
IrishEi on August 7, 2007 at 8:02 PM
This is so not a debate.
