Open thread: Are you ready for the hardest hitting Democratic debate questions ever? Update: Video — Hillary booed

7 p.m. ET on MSNBC. You’re our eyes and ears. If you see something clipworthy, shoot us an e-mail. We shouldn’t want for highlights, as they can’t be possibly be prepared for the withering fire they’ll be taking from a man with a guest list like this. I predicted last month that he’d attack from the left but in hindsight that seems silly. The waterboy would never put down his bucket long enough to throw them a hardball. Possible opening question: “When, precisely, do you think the president should resign?”

Update (Bryan):
I’m not going to liveblog the debate, but at 7:21 Richardson said he’d fire a whole bunch of government lawyers for political reasons (union busting or something like that). Isn’t that what the Democrats are accusing Bush of doing — firing government lawyers for political reasons?

Update: Zzzzzzz.

This ought to be a gold mine for hypocritical and hateful commentary.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 6:42 PM

YaY?

EnochCain on August 7, 2007 at 6:43 PM

Shouldn’t this be filed under comedy?

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 6:45 PM

I can’t wait… What’s on HBO?

NeoConNews on August 7, 2007 at 6:45 PM

there’s supposed to be some tepid antiwar protest outside. maybe i’ll waste the time to do a rideby. could’ve gotten tickets, but what’s the point really? this one’s sponsored by the afl-cio, isn’t it?

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 6:46 PM

Olby questions preveiw

“not to be disrespectful to other Democratic Candidates but wasnt Bill Clinton truely the best president ever ?”

“Isnt it about time we had a Black or a woman as President ?”

“Isnt military experiences overrated ?”

“If elected president will your justic department begin jailing any republican that disagrees with it because they use to support Bush ?”

“Have you ever heard of Scooter Libby ?”

“Honestly how many of you have faced me when Im on my knees in a prone position ?”

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 6:47 PM

Olbergasmmmmm!

*blech*

I’d rather finish cleaning the garage than watch that feckless self-annointed wonder boy… which is just what I’m going to do.

SilverStar830 on August 7, 2007 at 6:47 PM

I will wait for the highlight reel tomorrow. Im watching Bourne Ultimatum tonight.

heatherrc77 on August 7, 2007 at 6:47 PM

Are you implying there is a harder hitting question than “What kind of underwear do you wear”?

TheSitRep on August 7, 2007 at 6:48 PM

Olby question:
“Which one of you will appoint me a member of your cabinet?”

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 6:50 PM

“George W. Bush: Threat or menace?”

ZK on August 7, 2007 at 6:51 PM

My collie says:

Is it too late to charge Olby’s mother with a hate crime?

CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 6:51 PM

I wish he would get those caterpillers off his forehead.

heatherrc77 on August 7, 2007 at 6:51 PM

I still think KO runs the risk of alienating his viewers by appearing to be too “tough” on their candidates of choice. It’ll be like Kirk telling NOMAD that it is imperfect and must be sterilized. Meltdown.

rw on August 7, 2007 at 6:52 PM

Republicans are willing to go on Youtube and face truther questions and Democrats are so fearless that they get a butt kissing sicophant to ask them questions.

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 6:54 PM

I predict plenty of O’Reilly/Malkin gossip during this sham of an interview.

kiakjones on August 7, 2007 at 6:55 PM

the local radicals periodicly swell the ranks of the perpetual seiu protest ooutside the congress hotel. usually the “picket” is two guys sitting on a planter with a stack of signs. but in times of enhanced mooonbattery, the picket may swell to a dozen or so.

in any case, a month back, obama made his first visit there since his senate run and made the comical suggestion that there’s something other than electoral opportunism behind his “devotion” to the congress hotel picket.

i wonder, not to hard mind you, whether he made it there today. i also wonder whether the 2nd internationalle hold-outs of the seiu appreciate his equally opportunistic bellicosity towards pakistan.

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 6:58 PM

olby question:

“if elected, what will you do to prevent republicans from chaining black people to their pick-up trucks and dragging them to death?”

(this would be meant to be taken as an opportunity to discuss the fairness doctrine, of course.)

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 7:00 PM

“Hillary Clinton, does having such a great man for a husband better prepare you to be President?”

Christoph on August 7, 2007 at 7:00 PM

Dear gawd…it’s the Olby-bates!

JetBoy on August 7, 2007 at 7:05 PM

I hope they ask a couple legit questions that affect Am. labor: Immigration, etc.

KO thinks he’s funny. That itself is amusing.

Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 7:05 PM

Again, the “Iraq-war-funding-makes-our-bridges-fail” argument.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:06 PM

by day he is mild mannered Keith Olbermann sports caster

By night he becomes “Captain Felatio” who seeks to right the wrongs of the Bush Administration by kissing up to the new Democratic leadership.

There is no problem that Captain fel.. I mean Keith cant lick.

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:06 PM

Hillary’s dad was a “fanatic Bears fan”. I hear Hillary plays a mean game of basketball.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:08 PM

This is no debate…it’s a Democratic political ad.

JetBoy on August 7, 2007 at 7:08 PM

how can she equate all that stuff? Katrina, 9/11, bridges, mine collapes? They are all equal?

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:09 PM

I think it’s up against Gilligans Island….could be trouble.

shooter on August 7, 2007 at 7:09 PM

CF, you must suspend disbelief.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:09 PM

Wow. A ‘New Deal’ to fight terror. Didn’t see that coming as response to the bridge tragedy.

Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 7:09 PM

Border fences would create lots of union jobs… wonder why no mention?????

rw on August 7, 2007 at 7:10 PM

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:10 PM

yea, i just checked, and this is an afl-cio gig:

http://www.aflcio.org/issues/politics/presidentialforum.cfm

each of the candidates were invited to make opening video clips. you wanna see a study in contrasts? check out biden’s clip, then watch the phony pony’s clip. it’s revolting. stick with it to the end.

you can see them here:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20122802/

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 7:10 PM

Lets see if this works

watch debate live

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:10 PM

We have a winner:

“Is there anything the government can do to make us safer?”

That’s probably as hard-hitting as it’s gonna get.

billy on August 7, 2007 at 7:11 PM

Is there an echo in there?

And haven’t the audio people heard of wind-screens?

CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 7:11 PM

Hot Air should keep a ticker for every time Olby mentions the Nexus of Politics and Terror(TM).

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 7:11 PM

didnt work can get video here

here

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:11 PM

HEY BIDEN!!!! HELLO?!?!?!?! How about letting Americans do the jobs Americans won’t do?

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:11 PM

It is a nasty day here in IL…those Dems are looking pretty sweaty.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:12 PM

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:14 PM

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:14 PM

HEY GUYS!!! How about building a FENCE?!?!

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:15 PM

Silky might steal that as a bumber sticker

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:16 PM

Looking forward to watching it. Gives me something to do while Im at work

offroadaz on August 7, 2007 at 7:16 PM

Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 7:17 PM

Does anyone else find the irony so thick to hear the democrats decrying special interest money at an EVENT HOSTED BY ORGANIZED LABOR ?!?!?!?!?!?

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:17 PM

ummm, Gov, how about, oh I don’t know, A FENCE? Where was that?

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:18 PM

90 secs is a long time to hear people talk and say, um, nothing.

Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 7:19 PM

Wasn’t it Hillary’s husband who sold us out to China?

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:19 PM

They do know Bush cant serve in office again right?

EnochCain on August 7, 2007 at 7:20 PM

Hillary looks wilted. And she looks her age. Do we really want that face to represent our country? Not me.

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:20 PM

This ought to be a gold mine for hypocritical and hateful sarcastic commentary.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 6:42 PM

fixed

urbancenturion on August 7, 2007 at 7:21 PM

Frankly, I want to scrap the teachers union. And..
HAHAHAHAHA Obama is talking foreign policy again! What a hoot!

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:22 PM

NOTHING has hurt the so-called “labor sector” MORE than illegal immigration. Funny how no one is talking about THAT.

CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 7:22 PM

Heh OK Govenor Richards I understand no child labor but what is no slut labor ?

Will write it off as a misspoken comment

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:22 PM

Oops, sorry PBoilermaker. I was out of phase for a moment there. My bad…

urbancenturion on August 7, 2007 at 7:22 PM

Where in the Constitution does it say that the President’s job is to create jobs?

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:23 PM

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:16 PM

can’t be missed, but you know what they say about firing squads: the biggest perk is that the guns are pointing away from you.

btw, are you watching live online somewhere? i can’t find a link anywhere.

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 7:23 PM

Yes can go to MSNBC’s site to veiw it

at the top of the page is link

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:25 PM

Kucinich…what a rebel

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:26 PM

I’ve watched about ten minutes, (Kucinich just suggested that the State buy the Chicago Bears and a threw up a little bit into my mouth, excuse me.)

Don’t you love the 30-second rapid fire, encapsuatling statements designed to draw audience applause instead of being thought-provoking?

Oh god, Kucinich just announced that we’re pulling out of NAFTA on his first day in office and is now riling the crowd into an Arsenio whoop-whoop-whoop chant…this is going to be a long debate.

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 7:26 PM

hmmm a united Democratic party AGAINST the Republicans? How about a united country against our enemies?

Moron.

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:27 PM

I swear it isnt a debate its an onion parody on the democratic party candidates

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:27 PM

Hillary – “I’m your Girl!”

To quote Jimmy Fallon – “Tommy please tell me you got that!”

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 7:27 PM

Hillary is my “girl” to beat the Republicans?

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:27 PM

Don’t you love the 30-second rapid fire, encapsuatling statements designed to draw audience applause instead of being thought-provoking?

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 7:26 PM

bingo…spot on

JetBoy on August 7, 2007 at 7:27 PM

Wait… I thought
Silky is their girl.
Hillary is their man.

I’m SO confused.

CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 7:28 PM

Sweet. KO reveals his ignorance.

Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 7:28 PM

yes Obama. Globalization is here. How about your wealthy family in Kenya? Did they get wealthy off the slave trade? I am betting (I have no evidence) but I am betting it is true. I wish some intrepid reporter would research that.

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:28 PM

CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 7:28 PM

Heh.

EnochCain on August 7, 2007 at 7:28 PM

Amazing how the spectre of illegal immigration and the Dems’ support of it hasn’t been mentioned yet.

Oh wait…this is an organized AMERICAN labor event.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:29 PM

Darn its the reverse of the youtube debate. The audience is live and the candidates have sent in 30 sec youtube sound bytes

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:29 PM

It’s amazing how much Olby loves himself…sick

heatherrc77 on August 7, 2007 at 7:29 PM

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:29 PM

Exactly…this AFL-CIO sponsored debate is most definetly pandering to the labor unions.

JetBoy on August 7, 2007 at 7:30 PM

End the war! Screw the massacre! We are talking about money!

EnochCain on August 7, 2007 at 7:31 PM

If only there weren’t so many minor candidates, then Hillary, B. Hussein oBama and Silky could really pontificate.

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 7:31 PM

Wait… I thought
Silky is their girl.
Hillary is their man.

I’m SO confused.

CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 7:28 PM

Excellent! hahahahahaha, I wonder if she realized what she said about the Breck Girl?

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:31 PM

Hillary just said, ‘we have a rising deficit’. Can she not do basic math?

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 7:31 PM

he said “cut those taxes”!!!

jummy on August 7, 2007 at 7:31 PM

Darn its the reverse of the youtube debate. The audience is live and the candidates have sent in 30 sec youtube sound bytes

Best I’ve read here so far. Cheers to you!

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 7:32 PM

Can we have a poll to pick who we think won ?

I want to vote “Ron Paul” with a clear consceince. Tthe only time I could really do that.)

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:32 PM

Clinton talks to the ladies

bnelson44 on August 7, 2007 at 7:32 PM

They know that MSNBC, owned by NBC, owned by General Electric IS the corporate interest they are all denouncing this very minute…right?

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 7:34 PM

oh boy. I am getting dumber just watching this.

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:34 PM

!! Unreal, did I just agree with Kucinich?

Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 7:34 PM

Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2007 at 7:34 PM

I just had to kick myself too

heatherrc77 on August 7, 2007 at 7:35 PM

During the break, let’s throw Dennis down that hole to China, could we?

CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 7:35 PM

They know that MSNBC, owned by NBC, owned by General Electric IS the corporate interest they are all denouncing this very minute…right?

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 7:34 PM

They have conveniently overlooked a lot about these candidates, the venue and basic truths.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:35 PM

It wouldn’t need to be a very big hole, CyberCipher. I hope Dennis recycles the phonebooks he is standing on afterwards.

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 7:36 PM

Does anyone else find the irony so thick to hear the democrats decrying special interest money at an EVENT HOSTED BY ORGANIZED LABOR ?!?!?!?!?!?

William Amos on August 7, 2007 at 7:17 PM

Game, set, match.

PatrickS on August 7, 2007 at 7:36 PM

I love Keith’s comeback, ‘we are back with our candidates…”

Well, thanks for the honesty.

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 7:37 PM

Drew on August 7, 2007 at 7:37 PM

He did it again.

CrimsonFisted on August 7, 2007 at 7:38 PM

I hope Dennis recycles the phonebooks he is standing on afterwards.

HockeyTemper on August 7, 2007 at 7:36 PM

We should’ve slipped a Koran in between the phone books. Then we could charge him with a hate crime.

CyberCipher on August 7, 2007 at 7:38 PM

Sooooo…Richardson would put us back in Iraq if things go south after we pull out? I guess, at that point, it would be a Democrat-backed war and, at that point, acceptable.

PBoilermaker on August 7, 2007 at 7:38 PM

I want to see Frank Luntz’s lines going across the screen, with his focus groups. In real time.
