They strip the meaning from the words of those they do not consider their enemies (terrorists, mass-murdering communists), and assign harmless idealism and abstract ideas.

Che shirts, Mao purses etc

Something's happening here. People that stand up or quetion are sued or labeled Islamaphobe/bigots. Then if you stand by, this happens. What's a country to do when it seems like one part seems so firmly invested in our own downfall or defeat? It was only 6 short years ago that 9-11 happened. And this country stood together like I had never seen in my 46 years. And it didn't last.
I remember Michael Moore being booed at the Oscars for Fahrenheit 911 and his anti-Bush whine. Now he's a damn hero to a lot of those same people. What happened to them? I still feel the same. CAIR has way too much power. sorry for mini rant.

And I might add, the "excuse" is classic left language-abuse. They strip the meaning from things and assign what they feel, which is part of why they seem to have no critical judgement at all.

They strip the meaning from the words of those they consider their enemies (the political right, Christians) and assign hideous conspiracies and mindless hatred.

Yeah. Umm-hmm. Because New Yorkers are so oppressed, as opposed to women in, say, the Palestinian territories, Saudi Arabia, or Iran.

sarc

You know, I'm beginning to wonder if there are people on the left that really don't have the best interests of the West in mind.

/sarc

The dumb crack-whore could have made a shirt that said "shaking off" if it was the meaning of the word that mattered.

At the risk of drawing an invocation of Godwin, I have to suggest that she could just as well have made brown t-shirts labeled with select Hitler Youth slogans. I'm sure she could find something she could explain away as metaphorical.

Funny how NYC council is considering outlawing the words "bitch" and "ho" but the schools can promote a T-shirt with "Intifada NYC" on it.

What happened to 'separation of Church and state'? Am I missing something here? It's the same thing in San Diego. The guy from Cair told O'Reilly, 'Oh, every religion can pray in the schools'. So in one fell swoop this guy changes our Constitution? Or is it like Mark Steyn says 'no separation of mosque and state'. Is there going to be Chapels and Jewish Temples in the schools now? Where is the public outcry?

Excellent editorial in today's NYPOST:

August 7, 2007 -- Dhabah "Debbie" Almontaser is to be principal of Khalil Gibran Interna tional Academy, New York City's new Arabic-centered public school, when it opens in the fall.

Either she is a fool or she thinks New Yorkers are morons. Regardless, she has no business running a public school.

Almontaser, as The Post's Chuck Bennett and Jana Winter reported yesterday, sits on the board of an organization that shares office space with a group called Arab Women Active in Art and Media, which has been selling T-shirts proudly proclaiming "Intifada NYC."

What does that mean, exactly?

Is it meant to support the Palestinian intifada, which has killed thousands of innocent people over the years?

Is it an incitement to such deadly violence here in New York City?

Neither, according to Almontaser.

"The word basically means 'shaking off,' " she tells The Post. "That is the root word, if you look it up in Arabic."

And while she says that intifada "is developing a negative connotation" because of its murderous anti-Israeli violence, Almontaser claims the shirts are merely "an opportunity for girls to express that they are part of New York City society . . . and shaking off oppression."

And the moon is made of green cheese.

No doubt, Almontaser is right about the literal definition of "intifada."

But if its generally accepted meaning were as benign as she insists, you can bet no one would be wearing it on a T-shirt.

You can further bet that she knows it.

Now, if Dhabah Almontaser is going to be as disingenuous about something like this, why should New Yorkers believe her claim that "you won't find religious or political indoctrination or anti-Americanism" at her Khalil Gibran school?

Or, if she really doesn't understand the difference, what is she doing with the job in the first place?

We've been leery about the Gibran school from the outset, because it may prove to be more a madrassa than a true public school. But we've kept our counsel because of our high regard for Schools Chancellor Joel Klein.

But if Klein chooses to go ahead with this dubious enterprise, he needs to do it with someone other than Dhabah "Debbie" Almontaser as principal.

A simple means of escape in a motor vehicle is to press down the pedal connected to the carburetor and turn would-be assailants into Islamic speed bumps.

....then wait to see if anyone sends an ambulance to help them.

No doubt a liberal is running this school.
