WaPo: Yearly Kos whiter than an NHL game at the North Pole during a snowstorm

Hard to improve upon Ace’s metaphor. No surprise here; the Billy Jeff/nutroots meet ‘n greet last year was a whites-only affair, too. But at least they try, unlike those nasty conservatives whose more diverse members end up being accused of turning tricks with ping-pong balls by the left’s edgiest outposts of edgy edginess.

Actually, they don’t even try. But Shillary seems to think they’re a reasonable proxy for liberals generally and I guess that’s enough for me.

A tribute, from Cracked magazine:

What? Hillary didn’t bring the first black president with her? Obama left his black half at home? Al and Jesse weren’t invited?

Shocka!

You have two parties run primarily by white males. Since one of them has lost most white male support, their politics are based mainly on what they think their lessers want or need.

Case in point: John Edwards.

Oh, but we’re constantly reminded by the left that hypocrisy is the greatest sin of all, aren’t we? They use that excuse endlessly — and I do mean endlessly — when they gay-bait conservatives. So where’s the affirmative action, Nonfactor? Dazzle me with your diversity.

Allahpundit on August 6, 2007 at 5:39 PM

We have a rich white male President. Yet his cabinet and administration is probably as diverse as any in history. Of course, because he’s a Republican, he gets no credit for it.

Instead of criticizing Condi Rice on her merits, for instance, we get Garry Trudeau (a liberal rich white male who played hockey, BTW) drawing cartoons about “Brown Sugar.”

The libs can’t take when beat at their own game.

Nonfactor on August 6, 2007 at 5:43 PM

You know what this post really could have used? One of Jane Hamsher’s or Billmon’s patented blackface photoshops. That would have really sealed the inclusiveness.

What happened to “outreach”? Republicans don’t do enough of it, we know that for sure. And yet somehow, despite the strong concerted efforts of the nutroots, they didn’t have any better luck. What a tough break.

Incidentally, are you white? I just want to make sure in case I hear of any future meet-ups with Bill Clinton. That way I’ll know if you’re invited or not.

Anyway, back to the Michelle Malkin “Filipina whore” jokes and blackface photoshops!

So they’re hypocritical because more minorities didn’t show up at a two-year old convention lead by bloggers (typically WASPs)? How thin does that definition stretch for you?

Nonfactor on August 6, 2007 at 5:49 PM

This is the truth for most of these things..a bunch of White Liberals telling everyone what Blacks want and need..without actually having any Blacks around to really ask what they want…with good reason because many Blacks support things that Libs don’t…like school choice for example..the truth is the Black community is not as liberal as the Dems,MSM and the self-appointed Black leadership would like everyone to believe.

I should probably also ask at this point whether (a) you’re gay, or (b) you’ve ever worked in porn, because we know from Max Blumenthal and a few other commentators vis-a-vis Matt Sanchez that that combination is inherently suspect, and so I’ll have to discount your argument accordingly.

I can count the number of minority bloggers on one hand and two of them are on the right. Given I don’t read blogs too much, but to expect there to be an overwhelming amount of minorities at a Chicago convention for bloggers is a bit insane.

Nonfactor on August 6, 2007 at 6:12 PM

Funny how the only ones who refer to people as “their lessers” are the hacks like you, frankj.

I don’t pander by pretending I can “feel the pain” of other people while really just looking down on them. Instead, I promote things I believe in for myself that I honestly believe will be good for other too… like freedom and low taxation.

frankj on August 6, 2007 at 6:13 PM

A panel called “Blogging While Female,” held Saturday morning, was an aberration — an overflow room of about 75, mostly women, a few of them minorities.

“How many of the women in the audience blog?” asked a panelist.

Nearly three-fourths of those present raised their hands.

“How many of you get harassed?”

The hands stayed up. They complain of being harassed online for their views on issues such as abortion rights

So they complain of being harassed for their views…Not harassed for their gender or their race, they are harassed for their views.

I thought that was the whole idea, to harass those of opposing views not those of opposing gender or race or religion. Oh, wait, my mistake. That’s only if your views are different from theirs, then anything is open game.

:::snort:::

Seriously, I ain’t mad at Democrats or Republicans on this matter. Black people are individuals who are free to go where our interests take us–just like everyone else.

The problem with the Left, however, is not that may of them know too few black people, but it’s that many members fail to ascribe normal human characteristics to blacks.

Example regarding the blackface thing: the late Steve Gilliard–a black guy–was the first to put up that blackface photoshop of Michael Steele, so the (white) Leftosphere had received what I call its “racial-slur permission card,” believing that because one black guy said that it was okay to do it, that it really was inoffensive. A moment’s thought would have told them otherwise.

JackStraw on August 6, 2007 at 6:16 PM

Let’s face it. Diversity is a non-issue to Republicans. We profess and advocate more for equality of opportunity. And, we love hard work. This approach tends to garner more respect for those minorities within Republican ranks who do prosper and succeed.

This righteous and respectable approach does have some problems. We have developed a formidable blind spot regarding the relevance of race and, more often, class in many sociopolitical issues. The collective Republican reasoning that these are negligible factors does not pass muster.

I think the contemporary Republican party ignores what appears obvious to many minorities on both sides of the fence – many Republicans harbor race-based resentment.

That is not to say many are racist. Rather, they are just tired of being forced to consider race at every turn – especially when it has nothing to do with the issue. I get that.

That being said – At least Republicans try. Dems, on the other hand, assume that their legislative and or platform pandering will pacify minorities into eternal allegiance – because it seems to be working.

I think Democrats essentially use people they perceive as marginalized. The same way unions pander to illegal immigrants in defiance of all logic, dems pander to people they marginalize within their own ranks.

They Yearly Kos convention got a lot of publicity. I wonder how much, if any, attention will be paid to this gathering of mostly liberal journalists.

(NABJ membership consists of people from a broad range of ethnic and racial origins. Despite its ethnic diversity, the group’s politics are overwhelmingly liberal.)

All I have to add is “I don’t feel no ways tired!” and “Do you know how you make chocolate?” and “So poor, and so black”, a photoshop of Lieberman in black face… okay, I guess I could keep going, but I’m bored with this already.

The more interesting part of this story is Moulitsas continuing to misrepresent himself as a Gulf War Vet… okay, perhaps it’s the WaPo’s fault this time, but we won’t know until (if ever) a correction is made.

Build a liberal site such as Daily Kos, as the Persian Gulf War veteran and former Republican Markos “Kos” Moulitsas Zuniga did five years ago,

Go read Ace’s post, this is total BS, Moulitsas was in Germany, and he’s been caught using clever language in the past saying he served “during” the Gulf War, so it’s likely he gave WaPo the impression… though they should have fact checked. No correction yet, and it’s odd because they have already made a different correction.. how did they miss this one?

Surprisingly enough, the left wasn’t too upset by this one. Go figure.

“Republicans are sending mixed messages to people of color, in particular African-Americans and Hispanics. On one hand they would like us to come into the big tent. But once you get in you will see the unwelcome mat remains on the inside.”

His head is from a Hispanic guy, his left arm from an Arab, right arm from a Jew, his ass cheeks came from a pasty white guy, one leg from a Chinaman, the other from a Swede, his torso is from an unfortunate Chilean and his pecker came from … well, a black guy.

Nonfactor on August 6, 2007 at 6:50 PM

Just because liberals pity blacks, feel they are victims, and feel the need to keep them under a welfare state, does not mean they have to socialize with them. To me this is such a tragedy. All you have to do is look at Margaret Sanger and the negro project, to get an idea of what elite liberals think about the african-american community. The same sentement that Sanger envisioned for blacks has not changed much at all in 70 years. I do not see how an african-american could support the libs if they new about Sanger, and her extreme racist views. The “mother of birth control” sure had an idea of her solution for the black community, Abortion. Weed the fit from the unfit was her motto. I do not see where the lib position has changed. I have tried to convince my black friends of this, but have had no success, so maybe it would not matter.

JackStraw on August 6, 2007 at 6:46 PM

I would take offense… but sadly, you’re right. Interesting fact that ties this all back together too… Vermont, arguably the most liberal state in the nation, is also the second most white. And at last check we have a .5% black population (yes one half of one percent, or about 3,000 black people). Actually a lot of the black people up here are Sudanese refugees, which is even odder… to have (seemingly, in my city anyway) most of the blacks be not even from this country… sadly they’ve been corrupted by “black culture” or “hip hop culture” or whatever we’re supposed to call it now… They went from being respectful, nice, appreciative people, to dressing like thugs, and hanging out on stoops shooting looks at people and roaming the streets looking for trouble.

At any rate, I just find it kind of funny how we’re one of the least diverse states in the country, but also the most liberal. I suppose Nonfactor might argue that black people don’t like the cold weather? Because it has to be something simple like that, because a liberal utopia would have to be alluring to minorities, right?

Just because his bio, says his home station, it does not necessarily mean he neverdeployed to the Gulf.

I no nothing about his service record (other then what has been posted) however the gulf war was during his service time, and it would certainly be possible for a MLRS team to deploy from German to the Gulf.

While I was not a part of my squadron at that time, (they deployed from VA to Saudi) during the Gulf war, their home base was always in the states.

Wrong nonfactor (as usual), if you go to any number of conventions in LA, or San Diego, you would see a great many minorities (in fact the Dems have strict rules on % of minorities). The Vietnamese, Hispanics, Blacks, Chinese, etc. are all represented fully at the conventions, and on some occasions, whites are the minorities. Republicans had an Orange County convention (fund raiser), the Vietmanmese were more than represented. The Republican fund raising activities and Democrats have a large percentage of Hispanics.
Thanks for being wrong again, like you said, it is always entertaining reading these posts.

Your point? Because you’ve seen many minorities at conventions there should have been more at the convention in Chicago? Seriously?

Nonfactor on August 6, 2007 at 8:03 PM

And how would you know since you claim to “not read blogs that much?”

baldilocks on August 6, 2007 at 7:34 PM

Putting nonfactor to bed early.
Go to bed nonfactor, maybe some will forget these postings of yours tomorrow.

Sorry I don’t know “hunders of minority bloggers” (I have a ton of black friends, I’ve had hundreds of girlfriends, etc.) like baldilocks, but I do have a grasp on the world outside the internet. If you seriously expected there to be a certain percent of minorities at a convention in Chicago set up by bloggers you need to get off the internet and take a peek outside.

Nonfactor on August 6, 2007 at 8:07 PM

Just because liberals pity blacks, feel they are victims, and feel the need to keep them under a welfare state, does not mean they have to socialize with them. …
chief on August 6, 2007 at 6:50 PM

Oh so true.

If you’re going to claim to speak for a group of people, don’t you think you ought to make an effort to invite them to your planning party?

Pablo on August 6, 2007 at 7:21 PM

You owe me a keyboard. I spewed sweet tea all over this one.
High-friggin-larious!

nonfactor:
The fact that you would even suggest there is a paucity of black/minority bloggers really points to the inattention you pay these bloggers, as opposed to any lack of their existence.

Wanna gag on your Fruity Pebbles, nonfactor? Here’s an unsolicited opinion:

Republicans will elect a black US President before Democrats will. And when they do, they will expect excellence and ideological parity.

Is this kind of like how everyone here thought Michael Steele was going to win in a landslide?

Nonfactor on August 6, 2007 at 8:18 PM

In defense of Moulitsas (I never thought I would say that).

F15Mech on August 6, 2007 at 7:50 PM

I would say that I don’t know much about his military career either, but I doubt Ace would post something like that without knowing…

Anyway, I just dug this up for anyone with any doubts:

http://www.prospect.org/cs/articles?articleId=11410

Eight weeks later, I emerged a brand new person, this one weighing 140 pounds. And after my three-year stint, while I was stationed in Germany and missed deploying to the Gulf War by a hair, I emerged as a Democrat.

So we have confirmation now, the WaPo is lying when they print:

Build a liberal site such as Daily Kos, as the Persian Gulf War veteran and former Republican Markos “Kos” Moulitsas Zuniga did five years ago,

Admittedly, he could have pulled his old trick, telling them he served “during” the Gulf War, so he’s factually accurate, but obviously trying to deceive, so we don’t know whether it’s WaPo or Markos at fault here… but why has no correction been issued, even now?

RightWinged on August 6, 2007 at 8:19 PM

I can count the number of minority bloggers on one hand and two of them are on the right. Given I don’t read blogs too much, but to expect there to be an overwhelming amount of minorities at a Chicago convention for bloggers is a bit insane.

Nonfactor on August 6, 2007 at 6:12 PM

Man, non-factor is right. I was looking forward to smacking you around for this bit of non-sequitir but baldilocks seems to have done that quite thoroughly. Did I miss a non-answer, or is there still a question hanging about Chicago and minorities? Are you effing kidding me?

Home of a million illegal aliens, the fully integrated Cook County Board, a Black Panthers alumnus in Congress, more silly hats than a Barbershop Quartet Convention, a thriving Chinatown?

If not in Chicago, then where?

Jaibones on August 6, 2007 at 8:20 PM

You guys are getting a little obtuse. Take a poll of the people in Chicago who knew about the YearlyKos. Then take a poll of the people who would want to pay to visit it. And then see how many of those people are minorities. The fact that you guys are expecting the crowd to be full of minorities is a bit surprising.

Nonfactor on August 6, 2007 at 8:24 PM

Hey, they should have gotten the hotel staff in there. YEEAAAARRRRGH!

Pablo on August 6, 2007 at 7:08 PM

We’ve probably been unfair to Markos and the Whiteys. Did anyone count the number of black cleaning ladies and black limo drivers that chauffered them around town?

Surely the Kos Kids brought their righteous numbers up if you include hired help?

The fact that you are intellectually and emotionally incapable of acknowledging the hilarious hypocrisy is a bit surprising, also.

Nonfactor on August 6, 2007 at 8:24 PM

I don’t think anyone is saying they “expected” the crowd to be full of minorities at all, and that’s exactly the point.

RightWinged on August 6, 2007 at 8:40 PM

Now, now, Nonfactor. Let’s not get overly defensive. Be humble knowing the Kos convention didn’t do enough outreach. It’s like one of those AA meetings where the first step to a cure is to acknowledge your own mistakes and weaknesses.

Group hug everyone.

Kokonut on August 6, 2007 at 8:52 PM

What would you expect from the diverse and
tolerant left.
The Kos convention mirrors the Clinton term.
Remember the Clintons bragging about how their
administration was going to look like America.

canopfor,

You forgot that Clinton succeeded. He made it look like the left side of America, that is.

I have to take back what I said in my previous post. Based on the link provided by RightWinged it looks like “Kos himself” never deployed during Desert Storm.

That being said we still don’t know if it was the WaPo that reported his status incorrectly, or if Markos embellished to the WaPo about his prior service.

If I had to place bets I would say it was the WaPo that embellished and not Kos.

F15Mech on August 6, 2007 at 9:34 PM

I have heard that about the only non-whites at the KOS convention were those who were serving them their champaign and lobster. Or maybe it was cheese and bottled water.

F15Mech on August 6, 2007 at 9:34 PM

Well again, WaPo obviously wants him to be a Gulf War vet, so that may explain their failure to fact check, so they are definitely at fault, but I think it’s reasonably likely that Kos himself used his tricky phrasing (as he’s done in the past) stating that he served “during” the Gulf War… again, this is technically accurate, but leaves a completely different impression.

Yes you are correct on that,Strange how the (left)media
never called clinton on that. But we all know during clintons eight year term how the media basically ran
clinton’s defence team(Padila,Raging Cajun).

President Bush has the most diverse cabinet in history
period.
