[...] Nice to see that the lovely KP, while an almost complete disappointment, is still lovely at least. And obviously still capable of elegantly dodging a question, as she does here when Bill grills her on the Dems’ position on gay marriage. [...]

[...] In all candor, Kos calling the DLC “a bunch of cranks” was the closest I’ve ever come to liking him and the first insight I’ve had into why someone on the left might prefer the nutroots over the centrists. Every time I see Harold Ford or Shillary on Fox taking a very meek, politic, inoffensive line about the filthy left, it makes them look that much more feeble and hesitant by comparison. It’s all carefully tactical on their part, of course: there’s no sense antagonizing the liberals lest it provoke an intraparty schism that ends up hurting Hillary’s chances in the general election, especially when they’re confident they’ll win if, as expected, she’s the nominee and tacks back towards the right for the general next year. But I wonder how young uncommitted Democrats, presented with the two options, will come down. It’s strong horse/weak horse all over again: Kos, who at least has the stones to call his opponents cranks, versus the mealy-mouthed establishment centrists who tremble at the thought of offending the far left’s angry bottom-feeders. They look, and sound, scared. The DLC thinks it’s going to have the last laugh when Hillary’s elected, but if she tries to govern from the center the nutroots is going to make more trouble for her than righty bloggers ever could. And she’ll deserve it. Which brings us to the clip — here’s Joe Klein, nutroots hate object, hinting at what a bad idea it is for the Democratic presidential field to go kissing Kos’s ass. Enjoy it; you won’t hear it from the Democratic side of the Monday night Michelle/Kirsten segment on O’Reilly. [...]

So why pick on the Dems for courting KOS, and ignore the Republicans pandering to the ultra-religious right? That’s just plain hypocritical.

No republican goes to, and endorses, any far right wing hate site at its annual convention.
That'd be like Rudy or Mitt going to have a sit down with the Phelps family?

The truth of the matter is there is no “right” equivalent to the KosKids.

Thats the truth right there.
WHY? The right doesn't buy into such hate in mass form.

[...] Perfection. Or rather, near perfection: having DLC leadership team member Hillary Clinton standing right next to him when he said it would have been the cherry on top. I like to imagine he was telling Andrew Marcus this at almost the exact moment on Sunday morning that Shillary was stooging for her girl’s decision to appear at Yearly Kos. Be sure to smile the next time they call you a crank and a phony, KP. [...]

Like Germany prior to Hitler didn't have almost all the exact same protections? And with a website that pulls 1/2 a million page view per day I would suggest that it isnt only in his small, irrelevant fantasy world, it took Hitler a hell of a lot longer to get to where Kos is after only 5 years.

One of the major benefits the MSM provides to the Democrats is the ability to have influence without exposure. Kos and his followers have profound influence over Democrat party politics, as the spectacle of every Democrat presidential candidate appearing at their yearly convention attests. They might not actually *control* the party, but they clearly have a great deal of pull within it. However, the MSM sees to it that very little exposure accompanies this influence. How many average CNN viewers know about the "screw them" comment? Virtually no one in the media other than O'Reilly has made any attempt to expose these people for what they are, and he didn't do a terribly good job of it - they're a vile anti-Semitic hate site run by deeply stupid people, and you can prove it without ever going anywhere near their comments section. Bill should have let Mary Katharine take over that interview with Chris Dodd.

On the other hand, religious right figures receive exposure in the MSM far beyond their actual influence. Every foolish statement and misstep is endlessly repeated and referenced until it becomes conventional wisdom. No one on the right, religious or otherwise, could ever achieve the Kos level of influence without dozens of simultaneous hit pieces in major newspapers and cable news programs turning them into a straw boogeyman, and God help them if they ever rented an adult video. Exposure *should* be the price of influence, but the MSM's greatest remaining power is their ability to charge different rates of exposure to the two sides of the political spectrum, rewarding them with disproportionate levels of influence.

The Kos dumpster dive *could* be made to hurt the Democrats, but the Republicans would have to do it. How long would it take our resourceful hosts at Hot Air to produce a generic Republican campaign video that shows images of the murdered civilian contractors in Iraq, coupled with a screen cap of Markos' "I feel nothing. Screw them" comment, followed by a shot of Hillary shaking Kos' hand? How about a cascade of batshit-crazy front page hate rants from Kos followed by a picture of all those smiling Dem candidates at the convention? Couple that with the Republican candidate reading the "screw them" comment at every single debate, then pointing out that his Democrat opponent endorsed that kind of hate rhetoric by attending the convention, and give them an opportunity to denounce Markos as an anti-American lunatic. Checkmate.

To the trolls who wonder why anyone at Hot Air cares about Hillary's electoral fortunes after YearlyKos: I can only speak for myself, but I happen to think that a healthy democracy requires a vigorous contest between two healthy political parties, and one of them is deeply sick right now. Tolerating, or worse yet endorsing, a cancer like the Troofers or Kos is only going to make it sicker, and its adherents more deranged - how many decent, thoughtful Democrats will be left for Allahpundit to flirt with, when the average Democrat voter realizes Kos is now the "center" of his party? Where is the Buckley of the left, to read these people out of the Democrat movement and make it a healthy competitor in national politics again? I'd really like to have a tough choice to make when Election Day rolls around - it can only make both parties field better candidates, and that's good for the country.

My heartfelt condolences to you on loss of KP... er, Shillary to the Dark Side, Allah. Maybe one day the two of you can meet in Constantinople...er, Istanbul and reconcile over a glass of New Coke.

Fortunately, unlike Hitler, Kos has to deal with a country whose founders split up power into a million pieces so no one man could rule.

Kos is dictator only in his small, irrelevant fantasy world. The rest of us are laughing at him. He's pathetic.

Say, RWS, could you give me a hand over here? I'm going to stick a fork in an unborn baby's head and then suck its brains out. Also, I'm going to do it all day long on whatever whim provokes the "mother" carrying it. Could you hold the vaccum hose for me?

No?

Oh. You must be one of those Christianist extremists.

I think that's how this works.

In 1936 the vast majority of Germans thought that the Nazi party was the best thing going for Germany. They believed that in spite of a small fringe group of individuals who trafficked in hate that the Nazi's were essentially good honest decent hard working god fearing Germans.

Today democrats and liberals like KP are viewing the koskids in exactly the same light. Watching KP or Sen. Dodd defend the koskids is frighteningly similar to watching Sen. Joesph Kennedy or Charles Lindberg defend the Nazi's back in 1936.

Markos Moulitsas Zúniga bears more than a simple passing resemblance to Adolph Hitler, both were enlisted military who founded political organizations, who promised to bring about a Utopian society and both of their political organizations had as their foundation a culture of rabid hatred and violence which they attempted to conceal beneath a thin veneer of civilized intelligent behavior.

Furthermore there is little difference between the volume of rabid lunicidal conspiracy theories that fueled Hitlers Nazi party and those that fuel Markos dKos. Kos like the Nazi's in 1936 asserts themselves to be the true champion of the people defending the freedom of the people while simultaneously depriving the exact same freedoms of anyone who dares to express an opinion that contradicts theirs.

The left is not a mirror image of the right?! Oi! And Tuna is the other fillet mignon.

Her noble qualities still shine through, AP!

Although this is a fall from grace, it may be that she'll see the lack of nobility in equating two un-equatables, change her mind, and return to sounder thinking.

Put it down to panic that the blond candidate is a fractured hope and KP in her state of panic is grasping at straws. To forgive is divine. The other possibility is that it was a blond moment, however.

Let the rapture continue. (Tried to comment using absolutes, relativity, humanistic ideas and religious perspective . How'd I do?)

I don’t know if this Powers shilling for Hillary or just holding her tongue for whatever reason, but it’s sad.

The truth of the matter is there is no “right” equivalent to the KosKids.
Rightwingsparkle on August 5, 2007 at 11:07 PM

AP, she’s just doing her duty speaking up for the left side. What KP said was not egregious; it was a simple call for moral equivalence. Like Dodd saying O’Reilly is like Daily Kos. Moral equivalence is like symmetry for the mind. It requires less thinking and understanding than having to consider two sides independently. When we look at a butterfly we need only to take in the details of one wing, and with symmetry know what the other wing looks like without spending attention on it.

Rightwingsparkle, in a symmetrical world the left is just a mirror image of the right. See how much easier that makes thinking about the world. You use the label “left” which is very handy to think about left and right as moral equivalents.

To the eye symmetry is an element of beauty. To the mind moral equivalence adds beauty to our world understanding and is something we want to believe in.

Anyway I wouldn’t have to agree with KP on everything to enjoy her presence. A little spark (sparkle?) in a relationship just adds interest.

Every single time Kristin Powers opens her mouth, all I hear come out is cluelessness. The fact that Democrats feel they need to pander to groups that have members who clearly have been off their medication for quite some time should be enough to send red flags shooting up all over the place, but in the world of Kristin Powers, this is perfectly alright. Scary.

DailyKOS is a meaningless pile of rubbish, a kinda of porno site for politically perverted. Demo candidates are playing the game. The demo-KOS connection is a lightweight and temporary distraction.

We've known the demo party is left of left for a long time. Fortunately, America is right of center.

KOS is like the fringe lefty groups of the 60s---black panthers, sds and that ilk. Flash in the pan.
The small group of pinkos will lose interest and "move on" to something else.
