Ninja Warrior blogging and bleg

Allah does robots. Bryan did BSG. Now, my turn!

I don’t let my kids watch too much TV, but there’s one show our family is completely addicted to: G4’s Ninja Warrior. My three-year-old is obsessed. Bryan (himself a Ninja Warrior viewer–yes, I outed you, pal) can attest to that. Ninja Warrior is a campy yet compelling Japanese obstacle course competition. There are separate shows for men and women. Here’s our favorite male contestant, Makoto Nagano:

G4 is now holding an American Ninja Competition:

G4 is going to send one lucky American athlete to Japan to compete in Ninja Warrior. Help us choose this contestant by watching each of the videos on the left, then clicking on the ninja star to give it a 1-5 rating. The top three will be flown to Los Angeles to compete LIVE on Attack of the Show. We’ll take the winner to Japan in September to compete in the next NINJA WARRIOR!

We had narrowed our choices down to two–Ethan C. and another entrant–when the most incredible e-mail came into the Hot Air tips box yesterday.

Turns out that contestant Ethan C. (Ethan Czahor) is the same guy who founded stoprosie.com (now One Nation Under Blog, which we linked to here at Hot Air back in April. He appeared on John Gibson’s show in April:

So, here’s the bleg: Ethan’s asking for our help. He needs online votes to get him into the top 3. I think he’s got a good chance. Excellent upper-body strength and endurance, plus a great sense of humor. If you watch the other entrants, you’ll see that they just don’t get the Ninja Warrior vibe. It’s Sasuke –Ninja Warrior, not Urban Ninja. If he can make it to Stage 3, I definitely think he’ll be able to get past the Cliff Hang. His jumping skills (beyond hopscotch), however, remain an open question.

Vote for Ethan here.

Ethan e-mails: “If I make it to Japan I’ll wear a nice Ronald Reagan t-shirt or something like that.”

Dude, a Hot Air t-shirt would be even better. ;)

Update (bp):
Ninjas are freaking awesome. That is all.

Michelle,

Though I’ve not seen it in some time, I’m more partial to the show Most Extreme Elimination Challenge, which is also Japanese, coed, and voice-overed by true American Smart Asses.

You Too! Really! I thought I was the only one who watched those crazy ninjas. Have you seen the transvestite who does the womens rounds. I don’t know what it is, but I cant change the channel when that show is on.

Weight of Glory on August 5, 2007 at 1:33 PM

I never would’ve guessed you were a Ninja Warrior fan, Michelle! I’ve been hooked on this show since I discovered it a couple months ago (thanks to my brother). As for Ethan C., he definitely looks like he could do well in the competition–I’ll give him my vote.

I see your point!

I registered and voted. Good Luck Ethan C.

And here I thought I was the only fan of the show. Who’d a thunk it that Michelle is also into the show? :)

Razgriez on August 5, 2007 at 2:23 PM

Awesome. Nagano’s my favorite, too.

Ninja Warrior goes well with an aperitif of Ask A Ninja.

Mindcrime on August 5, 2007 at 2:56 PM

Crumbs, it’s The Krypton Factor. That won’t mean anything to 99% of the people here, but for the 1% of people for whom it means something to, it will for. Whom. For.

Lord, I love that show. Sadly, I think I’ve seen them all, so I stopped watching this past month. Hopefully they’ll get some new seasons on the air!

robblefarian on August 5, 2007 at 4:17 PM

I’ve never even heard of the show, but I’m going to check it out now. That Makoto Nagano is one heck of an athlete!

deepdiver on August 5, 2007 at 4:23 PM

My daugher and I watch Ninja Warrior every Sunday (even though it’s been countless re-runs). Nagano and Shunsuke Nagasaki are our favorites.

THANKS, Michelle…yet another obscure foreign tv show for me to get addicted to. Well, at least it’s not on BBCAmerica for a change.

It looks like a human video game…That’s AWESOME!!

“I move away from the plate to breathe in…”

This guy’s got the Tay Zonday vote! (…and mine)

James on August 5, 2007 at 4:46 PM

If you truly want Ethan to win, you should:

-Vote 5 stars for Ethan at the G4 website
-Create multiple web accounts and vote 1 star for all of the other competitors

Fact is that when the lefties get word that Michelle Malkin and her e-e-e-e-e-e-evil BushitlerMcCheneyite readers are rooting for Ethan, those fair minded members of the reality-based community will spend whatever time is required to give Ethan 1-star ratings and vote 5 stars on every one of his competitors at G4.

Not if–when.

Unfortunately you can’t take the high road with online contests such as these. Either you beat ‘em to the punch or resign yourselves to failure.

Dude! Come on, now: pirates are where it’s at!

JoeEgo on August 5, 2007 at 4:56 PM

Love that show!

EnochCain on August 5, 2007 at 5:39 PM

Ninja Warrior that is. lol

EnochCain on August 5, 2007 at 5:40 PM

A vote for Ethan Czahor is a vote for Ron Paul!

(This should allow us to win ANY internet poll, just tell your Ron Paul friends to do it!)

The Ninja Warrior announcer is the bomb. I have no idea what he is saying, but the inflection of his voice tells me exactly what’s going on. He rules. If they do an American version they have to get an announcer like him.

Having said that, Rie Komiya is Amazing on Women of Ninja Warrior. She’s worth watching anyway.

I used to watch it back in the mid 90’s, with original Japanese commentary. All i could understand was the name (Takeshi’s Castle), but it was AWESOME. I giggled like a little girl when i found it had been dubbed in English and was available in…well, let’s just say the “internets”.

If you want better Urban Ninja vids, search for Parkour. Kinda says something that the only rap I like is in french. Of course, I’m not sure what it says, but it says something.

HaHa. Michelle likes Ninjas. (So do I.)

BKennedy on August 5, 2007 at 8:19 PM

Update (bp): Ninjas are freaking awesome. That is all.

Yeah, ninjas are cool; and by cool, I mean totally sweet.

Kralizec on August 5, 2007 at 11:47 PM

I tried to vote but something isn’t working.

Sensei Ern on August 6, 2007 at 8:14 AM

I’m going to vote for him, but I hope Hot Air helps me out with videos if he gets on the show since I don’t have cable right now.

Esthier on August 6, 2007 at 10:30 AM

I clicked the ninja stars to vote for him, but there was no “submit” option or anything along those lines…..is just clicking the Ninja stars all you have to do?

I want to make sure my vote got counted!
