Boos at Yearly Kos as Hillary salutes lobbyists

posted at 8:51 pm on August 4, 2007 by Allahpundit

It was the lone false note in what appears to have been a stirring symphony of ass-kissing.

[S]he went on for another 40 minutes and nothing was heard in the room but cheers — and applause. It was, in fact, a tour de force performance, though she started with defensive humor.

“This might surprise some of you, but not everybody says nice things about me,” she said to a wave of laughter. “It is a burden I have to bear. Let me say something a little unexpected: Thank you. Thank you for building a modern, progressive movement in America and standing up to the right-wing Republican noise machine!”

kp-reaction.jpg

And then the stumble:

“I have been saying that based on my 35 years of fighting for what I believe in, I don’t think anybody will think I will be influenced [by lobbyist contributions].”

And here the boos broke out.

“I have been waiting [for that],” Clinton said with a smile. “It gives me a real sense of reality in being here. I have a good idea about bringing about change. I wish it were as simple as doing this or that. I will take money from lobbyists, because some represent real Americans like nurses and social workers, and they represent businesses that employ a lot of people. And I ask you to look at my record. I do want to be the president for everybody.”

And she got some applause.

That’s from Roger (not L.) Simon, who must be as big of a Hillary shill as KP herself since he doesn’t mention what happened next. For that we turn to Ben Smith:

[Her lobbyist comment] seemed to solidify the perception of Clinton as a Washington establishment figure in a year when Democrats are eager for change… Her words drew jeers from the audience and invited sharp responses from Edwards and Obama.

“They are not spending that just because they are contributing to the public interest,” Obama said of the health care lobby, a sarcastic rejoinder to Clinton that brought the crowd of about 1,000 bloggers and liberal activists to their feet…

Obama’s advisers … were jubilant, joking with reporters about how quickly they would be able to turn her words into a television ad.

“I can’t say I’ve ever heard a more fulsome defense of lobbyists before,” deadpanned Obama’s main adviser, David Axelrod. “It certainly stood out.”

I don’t have anything to add, but let’s give Drudge a pat on the back for distilling so succinctly the essence of the moment. For posterity:

Update: The boss has pathetic video.

Why do you have to be on my side exactly?

Christoph on August 4, 2007 at 8:55 PM

I’ve reached a grudging admiration of Hillary as a politician… but, wow, was that stupid. I’m disappointed in her.

frankj on August 4, 2007 at 8:56 PM

Roger (not L.) Simon is a lefty douchebag “journalist” who used to write for the Chicago Tribune. He wouldn’t be expected to get the negative side of the story right, nor would he be journalist enough to want to.

If you hang out with the nuts dont be surprized if an ad campaign reminds the American people of how crazy they are

Hillary and any other democrat should have Kos wrapped around them like an albatross

Who would you rather have for Prez, one who married into the job or a media-made rock star?

God help us all.

Try and vision that picture plastered throughout the country with the caption “WOULD YOU VOTE FOR THIS WOMAN?”

Seixon on August 4, 2007 at 9:57 PM

Good for Drudge.

You know the NYT has used this photo of Hillary twice in the last few months, here and here. I dunno why, they must think it’s a good thing or something.

INC on August 4, 2007 at 10:04 PM

Anyway, when I saw the picture from Drudge, it juxtaposed in my mind with the picture from Hillary’s college days of her in those striped pants.

I really thought that is kind of pathetic. Here is this 60′s radical who’s been after power for some 40 years now, she’s still trying to get the brass ring, but she’s now a middle-aged woman and she looks it. She used to be one of the nutroots and now she looks like one of the Establishment.

INC on August 4, 2007 at 10:08 PM

She paid some nutso dues.
Now the other two will have to try to out-do her. Kucinich would’ve turned the place out like Doctor Dtroit, though.
She was ready for the Boos, wasn’t she? That makes me feel much better about booing her audibly now. I thought she did well at the CNN/Youtube “debate”. Of course it helps to have the MSM backing you up at every turn. The vast Right Wing better start getting ready. I need to get Tivo for the 08 election.

Dork B. on August 4, 2007 at 10:18 PM

I will take money from lobbyists,

Pardon me!?

That pic is priceless, Carter Redux, the caption should be “trust me”.

Speakup on August 4, 2007 at 10:23 PM

Hillary Rodham Clinton is an attractive presidential candidate by her own right, and in her own light.
If you don’t get that, it’s likely that you will be horrified with what is about to happen. -> Without an intervention by GOMU(God Of My Understanding), she will be the Democratic Presidential Candidate for 2008. She will be favored to be the next President by … well, you know who they are.
Meanwhile, as we saw last year, Republicans have lost big chunks of the “Reagan” majority, and no new “Contract” has become a rallying cry.
Maybe it’s time for the 12 Commandments?

williars on August 4, 2007 at 10:27 PM

We need our candidate to be able to counter her BS and call her out on it. Someone needs their @ss kicked in the Presidential Debate.

aniladesai on August 4, 2007 at 10:35 PM

Stupid necklace and earings. They indicate to me that she is trying too hard.

bloggless on August 4, 2007 at 10:35 PM

bloggless, as a woman I’ll add the following comments:

Who works with her on her clothes anyway? Can’t they pick out anything that will look a little more elegant or chic? Surely there’s some variation to be made on the endless slacks and solid colors. Her outfit is a solid block of black and a solid block of turquoise. She could have kept the black slacks and the turquoise jewelry and worn a knockout top with diagonal black and turquoise stripes in some kind of interesting weave, or perhaps a solid black top trimmed in turquoise with turquoise and gold jewelry.

There’s no law that says in order to look professional you have to look like a frump. There are also ways to project authority without the endless jackets she wears. When she does wear jackets, she should ditch forever those boring lapels and wear ones with stand-up collars or collarless ones that button straight down the middle or slightly off-center. For instance, look at the women these chef’s jackets. Each jacket looks better than anything Hillary wears.

With her money she ought to getting the best wardrobe assistance from NYC she can.

INC on August 4, 2007 at 10:37 PM

The men are wearing classic chef jackets, but the company obviously worked at getting some fashionable jackets designed for the women.

Now if they can do that, why can’t Hillary, who is quite wealthy, get some good design work done?

INC on August 4, 2007 at 10:40 PM

I feel that when she gets the nomination, especially if Obama is on the ticket, that our candidate will already be at a perception disadvantage being a Middle-aged white guy. All the more reason to have someone who can communicate conservatism well going against Hill. I had dreams of Newt ripping her to shreads in a debate.

Dork B. on August 4, 2007 at 10:44 PM

Dare I say what Fred Dalton Thompson said about the shammesty
bill.

You can put lipstick on a pig and it will still be a pig.

Did I get that right?

Dersu on August 4, 2007 at 10:48 PM

Dersu, yes, that’s an old expression.

Although it might help a little if the lipstick was a flattering shade, you know ;)!

INC on August 4, 2007 at 10:50 PM

Watch this campaign season as liberals start referring to themselves as “progressives.” They obviously realize the negative connotations to the word liberal and are trying to shed the image. Don’t let them get away with it. If you hear someone mention “progressives” remind them that they are liberals.

Besides there is nothing “progressive” about higher taxes, socialized health care, appeasment foriegn policy, and destructive social agendas. They should be called “regressives.”

Mallard T. Drake on August 4, 2007 at 10:50 PM

I always pictured her swearing in and then ripping off her pantsuit to reveal para-military fatigues; then she puts on a black beret, raises an AK in the air and scream something in Russian as her personal Guard seals the perimeter.
DON”T DO IT AMERICA!

Dork B. on August 4, 2007 at 10:55 PM

INC is to Hillary as Naomi Wolf is to Algore.

And I certainly expect to see that Hill screencap again from time to time at HA

eeyore on August 4, 2007 at 11:02 PM

Mallard T. Drake on August 4, 2007 at 10:50 PM

If you hear someone mention “progressives” remind them that they are liberals.

Progressive is much more sinister than liberal. Progressive is a term with a long pedigree in this country, and it really does encompass a much more radical brand of self-loathing, America-hating, revolutionary activism.

I am in the middle of David Horowitz’s “Prodigal Son”. His parents were radical communists from way back in the 30′s and 40′s who called themselves “progressives.” Really chilling stuff and I recommend this book highly to anyone who wants to understand the enemy within.

Kowboy on August 4, 2007 at 11:28 PM

CONSIDER THIS!!! For almost five decades liberal Democrats have had at least 90% of the print and electronic media carrying their water and spreading their propaganda. But still the American voter keeps electing conservative majorities to the house, senate, and most importantly, the White House.
If that doesn’t convince true conservatives that they have the right stuff, then nothing will.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled bashing of Hillary.

The woman is so fake, yet the libs love it! Liberalism is definitely a psychological disorder.

Like my buddy always says….

“We are all born with a liberals heart, but some of us were born with a brain and know how the world really works”

Damn skippy!

I also highly recommend David Horowitz. If you want to understand the liberals of today, read Horowitz. Your local library probably carries many of his books.

If you’re not familiar with his website, it’s Front Page Magazine.

Here’s more on some of other ongoing programs that are part of the David Horowitz Freedom Center. They include Discover the Networks: A Guide to the Political Left and Jihad Watch.

No one knows the Left like Horowitz.

What I can’t get over is the fact that she has any chance at all, being in an obviously sham marriage. The American Family has deteriorated to that point I guess. At least for her supporters.

Dork B. on August 5, 2007 at 12:30 AM

From day 1, I thought for sure liberals weren’t THAT stupid that they would elect Hillary. They never cease to amaze. Hopefully this will be 1 of many dents to come.

INC on August 4, 2007 at 10:04 PM

There’s something very wrong with that photo – look closely at the pattern, and where it ends.

On her style/dress – she’s built like a trapezoidal tub. She does wear expensive clothes but nothing will help that figure – a tub dressed in fancy clothes is still a tub.

She’s not blessed by looks and/or personality, thus tries hard to make up by “brains” and faux do-gooderism. In reality she doesn’t have that in her either. Those letters were very telling. At that age a person is formed. All she cares for is power, glory, and revenge.

Entelechy on August 5, 2007 at 1:25 AM

This is a little O/T…..Here’s a video of a radio talk show host sandbagging Mitt! with more blathering BS about what Mitt! believes as a Mormon. These idiots just don’t get it and they expose themselves as complete fools when trying to tell others what their religious beliefs are. This is just scratching the surface. It’s gonna get worse.

Has Hillary EVER been spoken to in this way? Ever? If anyone deserves to be grilled like that it is Hillary because of all the re-inventing of herself that she does! She’s like Frankenstein…..a conglomeration of bastardized ideas, that when put together, is the most hideous beast imaginable.

csdeven on August 5, 2007 at 1:45 AM

I don’t think she was groveling, really. Her heart is to the far, far left, and the groveling she does is to the center, to appear less “progressive” than she actually is.

If Hillary Clinton ever felt liberated to really speak her mind, I think we’d hear something like Eldridge Cleaver meets Fidel Castro meets Kate Millet.

God/Nature gave us left and right hemispheres of the brain, each side with its own unique way of processing the senses. Favoring one over the other, leads to atrophy of the un-utilized. So, by our will, do we choose one over the other, utilize the seam down the middle, or use it all? I think it is rather comical, that the right utilizes the left side of the brain, and the left utilizes the right side of the brain. Cosmic humor. Gotta love it.
