Video: Vets for Freedom thanks Norm Coleman for staying the course
posted at 9:53 pm on August 3, 2007 by Allahpundit
Guess which high-profile political blog is responsible for ‘Tubing this. LGF? Powerline? Red State? Try TPM Cafe, one of Josh Marshall’s various Talking Points Memo spinoffs. They’re counting on the war’s unpopularity next year to help unseat Coleman, who’s made noise about switching course but thus far has stuck with Bush on all the important Iraq votes. The left is anxious to advertise that fact. As far as they’re concerned, VFF’s doing their job for them.
The irony is, he’s going to end up switching anyway, probably in September.
FYI, the man in the screencap is Pete Hegseth, recently of HamNation and the Washington Post op-ed page.

How is this ad supposed to hurt Coleman? I’m confused.
BadgerHawk on August 3, 2007 at 10:04 PM
Excellent.
I don’t think the ad was meant to hurt Coleman, but a certain group just wants to highlight Coleman’s support of the mission because to them that’s a bad thing (at least that’s what i gathered from Allah’s post).
forged rite on August 3, 2007 at 10:14 PM
Yet it’s like a bunch of anti-war commies using footage of Patton speaking to try to end WWII… just not great intellectual capability.
TheEJS on August 3, 2007 at 10:17 PM
Well, to voters it’s a bad thing. That’s why they’re highlighting it. They want Minnesota voters to associate Coleman with the war. This ad does a bang-up job of helping to do that.
Allahpundit on August 3, 2007 at 10:17 PM
The more that most Republicans are tied to Bush in general and the Iraq mess in particular the better it is for dems in 2008.
They should send a nice thank you card to VFF.
MB4 on August 3, 2007 at 10:25 PM
The ad will backfire
The war will be won in a substantive and consequential manner by the 08 elections.
It will be won because of the courage and abilities of the men in the ad, and it will be won in spite of feckless and inept politicians and administrators.

Like a third of American voters, you are confused, ignorant, and generally clueless. People like you just might get The Pantsuit elected………
Janos Hunyadi on August 3, 2007 at 10:28 PM
I don’t think so. The anti-war crowd is entrenched, as is the pro-war crowd. If the want to elect someone in Coleman’s place they need independants. Associating him with the war in general is a good way to do that, but there’s no way combat veterans giving him praise is going to hurt Coleman.
BadgerHawk on August 3, 2007 at 10:38 PM
Uh yeah – I mean are there rovian subliminals or something? Or is some bizarrely twisted only the nutter know cuz um – did they focus test it to actually convey the message they want?
Also – they didn’t consider the viral hijacking off the internets I guess – anyways, if this is lefty strateegery perhaps the GOP should funnel some funds to Joshy.

Like a third of American voters, you are confused, ignorant, and generally clueless (And does my mama wear combat boots too? I think you left that ad hominem insult out. Maybe you are saving that one for later.). People like you just might get The Pantsuit elected……(Trust me, I don’t have nearly that much influence. People who deny reality are much better allies for “The Pantsuit”)…

I suggest everyone go to the YouTube sourch and comment in support against the nutroots onslaught against this video and hit the ratings button. Vets for Freedom is under attack!

In a SurveyUSA tracking poll 5 months ago, Coleman defeated Franken by 22 points. Today, also SurveyUSA, Coleman defeats Franken by 7.
Franken for GOD’s sake!
Coleman does not need VFF “helping” him.
MB4 on August 3, 2007 at 11:07 PM
Is it totally funded by TPM or just being pushed by TPM?
Topsecretk9 on August 3, 2007 at 11:09 PM
This reminds me of Lieberman talk.

Oh ye of little faith…
TheBigOldDog on August 3, 2007 at 11:22 PM
Finally, a chance to use the team word!
“Nuance”
Talk about a weird way to get your message out: there’s a series of sober, respectable American military veterans who served in Iraq, all praising Coleman for his position, and it’s supposed to work against him, and the nutroots attack the ad and try to get it removed from YouTube.
If that isn’t nuance by Marshall, I don’t know what is.

Great to know we’re in a mess, not a war. Hope you get a nice thank you card from Abu Ayyub al-Masri one day.
TheEJS on August 3, 2007 at 11:30 PM
This is Franken’s answer to what? American heroes stating they are ok with being in that battlefield, willing to go the distance?
Ap – I understand your point in a way…but this can do nothing but help their effort. That is unless, of course, you are a lefty troll ( not you AP, the ppl who re receiving this message ).
If the ppl of the state can be swayed by by this ad, oh geez, seriously, oh geez, we have a problem on our hands

Doubtful, as we are not on speaking terms.

Behind every little problem there’s a larger problem, waiting for the little problem to get out of the way.

Yeah. In this case it’s called Iran. November ’08 is still a long way away.

Allah, I don’t think this ad will turn Minnesota voters away from Norm Coleman. Only the fringe left would watch that ad and think Norm Coleman has to go, and we know their mind is already made up. For “normal” voters, a postive ad from a veterans group isn’t going to hurt Coleman by association. A few negative TV spots might do the trick, though.

Dammit he doesn’t return my phone call anymore… think it was when I played a prank on him by taking his WoW disc and photoshopping it in a SVBIED.
TheEJS on August 4, 2007 at 12:02 AM
He stopped returning my calls when I enrolled him in the Ham of The Month club.

Hey! Maybe I am having some influence on some of the Republican candidates after all.
No, probably not, they are figuring it out for themselves.
“Four months ago, Giuliana delivered a vigorous defense of the commander-in-chief to a Texas audience that included the president’s father. In April 21 remarks at Texas A&M University, in College Station, Giuliani predicted the younger Bush’s approach would yield “an overwhelming victory against terrorism.”
Today Giuliani, 63, says the administration’s fixation on Iraq has been a distraction in the war against global jihadism. In a July 19 interview with USA Today, he said efforts to battle al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters in Pakistan and Afghanistan are suffering because “America is too consumed by Iraq.”
Former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson, who voted to give the president war authorization in October 2002 and has yet to formally announce his candidacy, has also changed his tone. “I would do essentially what the president is doing,” he told Fox News when asked in March what he would do in Iraq.
In a June 19 speech in London, Thompson, 64, hit a different chord. “Political realism is back in the ascendancy since the difficulties in Iraq,” he said. “We [not to include Bush I would add] have learned that geography, history, and ethnicity are important factors to consider in making decisions regarding today’s enemies.”
The exception among Republican presidential contenders is Arizona Senator John McCain, 70, who is as closely tied to the war as the president is; he continues to strongly support the president’s policy.“

As a Minnesota Conservative who voted for Coleman, let me say that Coleman has done some good in his first term, and I will be voting for him again. He’s gone a bit squirrelly on some votes, but he’s still better than any Democrat or Franken who has gone completely insane. He’s the Dems Ron Paul-not a chance in the world he could get elected, even in purple state Minnesota.
As for supporting the war on terror, in Iraq and elsewhere-I support all of our efforts to protect ourselves from terrorists, whether in Iraq, Iran,Detroit or New York City.
I feel that any Republican who breaks with the President over the War should be voted out in the next election.
Semper Paratus.

Coleman’s a mixed bag. I sent him money to help get him elected back a few years ago even though I’m a thousand miles away from his district. I’m not sure if that was money wasted or money well sent.
Kind of like McCain, Coleman seems to be on the wrong side about half the time. When he is good, he is superb. When he is wrong, he is dismal.
As far as the commercial being used to attack Coleman? I’m like the caveman…. Uh, What? Any sensible to undecided person would see it as a positive… Only the Code Pinko types would see it as a negative, and they are already planning to vote for that moon-loon* Frankin.
*Bats have been disparaged enough with the term moonbats. I’m gonna start using moon-loon instead, for a while.
LegendHasIt on August 4, 2007 at 3:36 AM
You mean like Viet Nam?
Our military wins a war but we lose the war in congress and CBS News with Walter
ConcreteCronkite .Wade on August 4, 2007 at 10:01 AM
So, this should sew up most of the Vet vote.
Next…
profitsbeard on August 4, 2007 at 11:34 AM
I think you’re on to something here. Anyone have the skinny on bats vs. loons as far as brains go? Aren’t bats generally regarded as pretty smart, adaptable, physically capable creatures? I don’t know about loons, but the name tells me they are regarded as dumb.
Moon Loons…hmmmm.
Jaibones on August 4, 2007 at 12:22 PM
I know.
Also pretty sad that supporting the troops could be seen by some as negative. I know this is repetitive, but just felt a need to say it.
PowWow on August 4, 2007 at 2:26 PM
Now that the surge is turning things around, the money that Jason Alexander sent to Frankin, will have to be used elsewhere.

Great video. Loved and wonder why there aren’t more of them. One boo-boo, though, no people of “color”. Why ?
