Nice. I always liked that Huckabee guy!

nailinmyeye on August 3, 2007 at 9:09 AM

Huckabee’s a good guy… Should be getting much more attention than he is, esp. with Fred’s campaign kinda-sorta stumbling.

Purple Fury on August 3, 2007 at 9:12 AM

Nice answer, nice guy, won’t win anything.

jake-the-goose on August 3, 2007 at 9:12 AM

Maybe never carry the top of the ticket, but he’d make a great VP for Giuliani (for example). Think socon + midwest + south.

Purple Fury on August 3, 2007 at 9:18 AM

That’s why I like Mike. He’s a realist. He knows that even though the whole thing with the Dems was basically just whimsical pageantry, we Republicans must still play their game, dance the dance and do it with dignity and answer the heck out of those losers’ questions. I look forward to Mike outwitting the snowman.

HockeyTemper on August 3, 2007 at 9:19 AM

Good for him. I enjoy listening to him speak, seems a very personable chap.

Spirit of 1776 on August 3, 2007 at 9:21 AM

Can’t tell if that’s taders or soy beans in the field. Pulling back from a tangent; I like Huckabee. I’ll be cringing through the Republican YouTube debate. Have tried to discourage it, but haven’t been forcefully against it. I leave it to the “sign of the times” people to do the steering here. If things don’t turn out as I anticipate, I will add to the archives, that I was wrong in how I interpreted the outcome, otherwise, I will just :} and go on.

BULL CRAP. WE ARE AT WAR WITH THESE PEOPLE (the war at home). Don’t give em squat. Anyone who signs on to this is AFRAID of the loony liberals! Period.

How about a radio debate with Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill Oreily, and Michelle Malkin moderating. Then we will get some real questions.

Sure I watch YouTube everyday, but I don’t post anything. Wouldn’t give Google the satisfaction.

Now THAT would be a substantive debate. I would though, want it to be multi_cast.

captivated_dem on August 3, 2007 at 9:33 AM

It is a shame that it is so early in this process. It will be excruciating to see the disintegration of candidates on both sides as they pander to any segment they think they can get.

I like to believe that Huckabee “convinced” himself it would be fun to do this. Heaven forbid we miss an opportunity for fun in the middle of a WAR. His tone annoys me. I can hear him making statements about the WOT in that tone already – and it won’t be “lets kick their asses”.

Some Republicans have settled on the idea that Bush has not “communicated” with the public properly. “If only he had talked with the American people, and explained things better.”

I quote:

“I hear you, America hears you, and the people who knocked these people down will hear all of us soon”.

“We are fighting them over there, so we do not have to fight them over here.”

Agrippa2k on August 3, 2007 at 9:49 AM

It’s odd to me to hear this from Huckabee. YouTube is one step below an MTV – Kucinich house party, and is a complete waste of time.

So, why do our politicians continue to slide in the direction of less serious, less intelligent discussion of the issues — TubeTop — but we never hear a proposal for a serious, long, and thorough examination of a candidate’s positions, thinking ability, and temperament?

Do we really have so little faith in the people we elect that we can’t let them orchestrate a debate? It’s easy: the first debate is internal to the party. Get the 10 Senators and 20 representatives of your party that represent the widest spead of ideas and have them conduct a public discussion with the candidates, one at a time. Narrow the number of declared candidates down to 2 or 3 in this manner.

Have those final 4 – 6 candidates engage in a series of one-on-one debates of the issues as they can agree on what they are. Intense, serious examination of the issues, in a public forum.

Let the voters observe this process conducted by the people that they have elevated to represent them, and then conduct the final campaign based on these debates, and the other qualifications of each candidate, including resume and background, voting record, cleavage, etc.

And then we vote. YouTubeTop is stupid.

Jaibones on August 3, 2007 at 9:53 AM

It is wishful thinking – but I would like to see a debate that is rough, really nasty! Shake out ALL of the skeletons.

Most would be crushed by the weight. But someone would survive. This would be only a taste of what they would have to endure as President.

Never has anyone gone through what Bush has. Frankly I don’t know how he hasn’t nuked somebody (and I’m talking about here at home).

Agrippa2k on August 3, 2007 at 9:54 AM

Amen – Jaibones

Say what you will about the liberal bias networks, they ask weak questions of both sides.

While I don’t believe anyone will ever sign on to a debate where there is a “loser” and advancement model – it is way past time that they do some kind of one on one beat downs.

Two teams, each facing off with every member of the other side. I want to see some stuttering and sweat.

Never gonna happen.

Agrippa2k on August 3, 2007 at 10:00 AM

As I’ve pointed out before, the YouTube debate is a no win situation for Republicans. If they shy away though, they only get hammered for about a week as being “chicken”, whereas, if they appear, the loaded questions and embarassing soundbytes will live on all the way up to election day. I think it’s a shame to provide the Dems with even more ammo.

P.S.
Huckabee IS a nice guy, shame he’ll get eaten alive.

commonsensehoosier on August 3, 2007 at 10:04 AM

Oh, awesome.

Maybe after we’re done with the youtube debate, the candidates can head over to Al Sharpton’s office to beg for the black vote. And don’t forget, if we want the ‘real’ hispanic vote, we need to do some serious campaigning over at La Raza HQ. We need their forgiveness and their support..gotta tell them bigots to shut up and all that. Any other groups I’ve left out of the Pathetic Republican Panderfest of 2007?
I can’t believe so many people think this is a good idea to participate in this debacle; the media sucks us in with this crap every time. Oh, we gotta do it..or you’re just afraid…yes, this from the people who won’t do a debate on fox. We’re afraid of taking questions from chimps. We’re not going to get any credit for doing it and we’re going to look like a***oles, again. Whatever.

austinnelly on August 3, 2007 at 10:09 AM

As you know, this has been debated here, and on one thread, the majority believed that this would be a mistake for the Republicans. Hugh Hewitt thinks it would be a mistake. On TownHall, most voted against it. So viewing a small slice of Republican opposition as a reflection of a national Republican opposition, this will probably still happen. I don’t get it.

captivated_dem on August 3, 2007 at 10:16 AM

Mike Huckabee will shine in a youtube format. He’s a pastor and plays lead guitar on stage. He also dabbles in stand up. Not bad for a Christian. He might even move up to first tier. Mike will be there.

Jaibones on August 3, 2007 at 9:53 AM

What are you, deaf? Huckabee clearly said that debating random people on Youtube will help “change America and take politics back.”

Or maybe it was “change politics and take America back…”

Whichever.

Anyway, the point is that he’s obviously got all that substantive crap covered. So it’s time to buckle down and show his leadership timbre by continuing to do absolutely anything, anywhere, anytime, and with anyone to get his face on TV.

Now, bring on the snowmen!

As far as Fred? goes, he’s got some “splainin” to do regarding his Spencer appointment, not to mention his lack of clarity regarding his lobbying days (its not the fact that he lobbied for pro-choice clients, but the fact that his campaign provided BS spin about it).

While I don’t agree with you on your staying away from YouTube, I do like you’re Talk Radio Debate idea. Throw in Laura Ingraham and Glen Beck and you’ve got a deal.

MirCat on August 3, 2007 at 10:39 AM

Oh, and if you think this YouTube debate type stuff is going away . . . it’s only the begining. YouTube will host a General debates, not just Primaries. How is it going to look if the Gen candidate shys away . . and then how can we get the dems for the Pajamas Media debate if Reps don’t do their version?

Jaibones on August 3, 2007 at 10:45 AM

With apologies to our betters here from the left edge of the right wing, again I wonder:

Why tf does anyone care about discussing public policy with 14 to 17 year old girls with stuffed animals on their beds, and the 14 to 20 year old guys who go there to see if the girls will “show us their tits”, none of whom could operate a voting booth even if we promised them Taco Bell coupons?

Why?

Jaibones on August 3, 2007 at 10:49 AM

I applaud him for doing this, but there is no chance I’ll watch the thing. Too early. December is the earliest most of us will be interested in the politicians points of view.

Kevin M on August 3, 2007 at 11:25 AM

Why?

Jaibones on August 3, 2007 at 10:49 AM

Dude, watch the video.

Right now, Huckabee is giving campaign speeches to corn fields. Believe it or not, Youtube is actually a step UP for this guy.

That isn’t merely a good idea, that is a great idea. I hope some of those who could make such a thing happen read that comment. It would really clarify things for the Republican party and conservative movement without all of the liberal “gotcha” BS that goes on at all of these other so-called “debates”.

thirteen28 on August 3, 2007 at 12:18 PM

What is not to like about Governor Huckabee?

…but calling YouTube “a little different” is like calling BJ Clinton “a little horny.”

The whole wedding registry as he left office in Arkansas turned me off of him.

jeffshultz on August 3, 2007 at 12:32 PM

Speaking for the United Snowmen Union Local ICE109. If you become President, we would like to know if our government will see fit to making it mandatory that all carrots used for snowmen noses be organically grown. And about the coal eyes, very un-environmental. We support the use of prunes. Keeps the prune farmers working and who eats the dam things anyway. And lastly, maybe a mandatory pair of Foster Grants for each and every snowman. The glare from the snow is just murder out there.

God I can’t wait for more snowman questions….

soulsirkus on August 3, 2007 at 12:46 PM

Sadly, you won’t get any. Rush Limbaugh has taken to referring to liberals as the “drive-by media.” This idiotic Youtube schtick is the ultimate culmination of that.

None of these nonsensical farces were ever a debate between any of the candidates. This idiotic format is really always a series of mini-debates between each candidate and the so-called “moderator.”

Of course, any liberal media figure would rather die than publically admit his bias. But at the very least a known anchor has to show his face on TV again after every hit-job he pulls on a Republican candidate.

But now even that tiny thread of accountability is finally being cut. All the liberals have to do is cherry pick one out of every ten thousand submissions and then claim: “Hey, CNN isn’t responsible for these questions…”

“Don’t blame us; it’s all the snowman’s fault!”

logis on August 3, 2007 at 1:09 PM

Thanks to the media, this guy isn’t getting the attention he deserves. They pick their horses and stick with them til they break down or fall apart(McCain, Dean in 04).

While I don’t like the youtube debates, I’m glad Huckabee is in. He needs to be heard and seen in whatever way possible. He’s BEYOND just a nice guy, he’s done some great things in Arkansas that would translate very well nationally. Sure, he has about 0% chance at getting the nomination, but I think it would be incredibly foolish not to consider him as Vice President.

EduardoOTI on August 3, 2007 at 1:17 PM

Huckabee has no where to go but up, so his risk factor is negligible.

csdeven on August 3, 2007 at 1:25 PM

The talk radio / conservative blogger debate is a damn good idea.

I can’t imagine any candidate trying to duck that debate. They would want to duck it, but they couldn’t without losing massive credibility.

Zach on August 3, 2007 at 1:34 PM

It couldn’t be any worst than the Chris Mathews debate.
But since it’s mid-summer stupid and everyone will either be on vacation or on a different planet, why not have fun with it?
Substance will coalesce in the fall.

Kini on August 3, 2007 at 2:00 PM

Why not have a Claymation debate? Or even one wth the candidates dressed up as clowns. I am so tired of the harping about the YouTube debate. Will not watch, waste of my time.

“giving speeches to corn fields” Heh. Don’t get me wrong, I like Huckabee a lot. I hope he’s running for VP for someone. But even a guy who speaks truth to powerful corn deserves better than the MTV generation…

Jaibones on August 3, 2007 at 4:13 PM

Mike Huckabee speaking to a field of CORNservatives!

sonnyspats1 on August 3, 2007 at 8:26 PM

Huckabee is great. But he is wrong about CNN’s fake debate. CNN is NOT giving us “America” in a YouTube debate. CNN is giving us what THEY think America is and CNN is ANTI-AMERICAN in the first place!

Remember… CNN is the one controlling this mess and ANYTHING they can do to make the USA look bad is their chief goal.

Warner Todd Huston on August 3, 2007 at 10:46 PM

Did anyone take the time to read this article?

If Senator Brownback wants to start apologizing for inappropriate things said, perhaps he could pull the “beam out of his own eye before taking the speck out of someone else’s” by apologizing for the website ‘Baptists for Brownback’ that states that Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Fred Thompson and others are ‘Hell bound.’

(I don’t like fred?, but he clearly isn’t hell bound)

Why is it that Brownback is always in the middle of a criticism of someone else’s religion? This totally tears it for me, Brownback will never get back on my viable candidate list. That makes three on the list.

csdeven on August 3, 2007 at 11:18 PM

Warner Todd Huston on August 3, 2007 at 10:46 PM

Ten thousand people submit questions, and CNN cherry picks twenty of them to match their agenda. Yeah, that’s real representative.

The ONLY reason they’re doing this is because the liberal moderators have exhausted their own credibility, and now they need a screen of “random” American meat puppets to hide behind as they ramp up their leftist rhetoric to the next level.
