When the gay porn story first broke, there was a quote from Sanchez (at mm’s I believe); something to the effect that ‘involvment in porn flattens the soul.’

That one phrase spoke volumes about someone who’s learned a hard lesson and moved on. Too bad the left (and some on the right) won’t.

Beauchamp remains a dirtbag, and his pals at TNR are no better.

Let me go on record as another conservative lady who thinks Matt Sanchez is way hot.

In case it wasn’t clear what I meant, I meant that it was unclear how TNR was confirming the identities of the witnesses. I wasn’t suggesting that TNR didn’t say that it was emailed, phoned, etc.

TNR never said how the confirmations took place. For all we know, TNR could be getting emails from Beauchamp saying, “Here’s what my buddies say,” followed by messages that may or may not be written by Beauchamp himself. Slapdash, for sure, but then again, so was the initial fact-checking. As Hanlon’s razor states, “Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.” Or laziness.

By the way, AP, if you think things are bad on the left-wing sites, they’re just as bad in Wikipedia, where the Beauchamp article had accusations of illegal activity against Sanchez but no mention of his role in the Beauchamp scandal, other than to say he was a “primary source.” Ironically, this was because someone “removed reference to gay porn actor Matt Sanchez, whose veracity about several matters is in dispute.” Why mention homosexuality if that’s not a slur against him? Bigots.

Most important, we spoke with five other members of Beauchamp’s company, and all corroborated Beauchamp’s anecdotes, which they witnessed or, in the case of one solider, heard about contemporaneously.

Three soldiers with whom TNR has spoken have said they repeatedly saw the same facially disfigured woman. One was the soldier specifically mentioned in the Diarist. He told us: “We were really poking fun at her; it was just me and Scott, the day that I made that comment. We were pretty loud. She was sitting at the table behind me. We were at the end of the table. I believe that there were a few people a few feet to the right.”

More important, two witnesses have corroborated Beauchamp’s account. One wrote in an e-mail: “I can wholeheartedly verify the finding of the bones; U.S. troops (in my unit) discovered human remains in the manner described in ‘Shock Troopers.’ [sic] … [We] did not report it; there was no need to. The bodies weren’t freshly killed and thus the crime hadn’t been committed while we were in control of the sector of operations.” On the phone, this soldier later told us that he had witnessed another soldier wearing the skull fragment just as Beauchamp recounted: “It fit like a yarmulke,” he said. A forensic anthropologist confirmed to us that it is possible for tufts of hair to be attached to a long-buried fragment of a human skull, as described in the piece.

The last section of the Diarist described soldiers using Bradley Fighting Vehicles to kill dogs. On this topic, one soldier who witnessed the incident described by Beauchamp, wrote in an e-mail: “How you do this (I’ve seen it done more than once) is, when you approach the dog in question, suddenly lurch the Bradley on the opposite side of the road the dog is on. The rear-end of the vehicle will then swing TOWARD the animal, scaring it into running out into the road. If it works, the dog is running into the center of the road as the driver swings his yoke back around the other way, and the dog becomes a chalk outline.” TNR contacted the manufacturer of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle System, where a spokesman confirmed that the vehicle is as maneuverable as Beauchamp described. Instructors who train soldiers to drive Bradleys told us the same thing.

After a thorough investigation that lasted nearly a week the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division has concluded that the allegations made by Private Thomas Scott Beauchamp, the “Baghdad Diarist”, have been

“refuted by members of his platoon and proven to be false”

I’d be really interested to know how they “proved” Beauchamp’s story to be false. It reads likes the investigators didn’t go any further than asking Beauchamp’s platoon member’s if they ran over dogs, desecrated children’s remains, and mocked a disfigured woman. It’s sort of like getting murder charges dismissed for telling the police you didn’t do it.

Hopefully there’s some “smoking gun” detail in the investigation that will come out in a published report by the military. For that matter, hopefully TNR shares what it is that makes them so confident Beauchamp’s story is true. Beauchamp is out already, it’s not like they have to protect his anonymity.

In any case, it’s a bit early to say TNR’s credibility has been destroyed. Their credibility is seriously in question, I’d say. It’ll be interesting to see how they respond to the military report after it’s been published in its entirety.

Incidentally, the left’s attempts to discredit Sanchez’s reporting on this story by mentioning his past in porn have already started at HuffPo and elsewhere.

I personally think it’s penis envy, even on arianna’s part. ESPECIALLY on arianna’s part.

The PAO said they couldn’t find anyone to back Beauchamp up. That’s not the same as a refutation.

I just don’t want us to have egg on our face if it turns out Sanchez doesn’t have his shit together.

Beauchamp has the burden of proof, not the PAO. Beauchamp brought the indictment in his Diary. Therefore, he has to provide the evidence, as does TNR. It used to be that you’re innocent until proven guilty. It would be absurd not to give the military the same benefit of the doubt.

I figured as much. Btw, I am stealing this line from you:

It is simply too perfect. I will use it often.

The left always thinks us conservatives want to destroy everyone with a “past”. Nothing could be further from the truth. We all have a past, and we all are better for it. It is not a shame, but a path.

The truth is the truth, and if Huffpo and the rest of the idiots can state where he (Sanchez) lied, or where Beauchamp was correct, then I will listen.

Meanwhile, they can continue their message of destruction, but no instruction.

Franklin Foer’s career needs to be destroyed. He, Beauchamp, and Beauchamp’s wife (TNR’s version of Valerie Plame) need to be unemployed (and unemployable), the way Steve Glass is. None of these 3 should every be allowed to work for a newspaper or magazine again. Justice demands it.

TNR, because of a repeating pattern of lie telling, needs to be put out of business.

From lying about Pol Pot, to the Steve Glass episode, and now to slandering the US Army, TNR proves the truth of what Ann Coulter wrote about in Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right. She wrote that hat liberals are “savagely cruel bigots who hate ordinary Americans and lie for sport.”

TNR should be required to place a warning on their cover and at their website that reads: “The New Republic is a proven liar.” And then they should put a padlock on the office throw away the key.
