Bob Novak: GOP rivals fear the Fred Jeri
posted at 11:43 am on August 2, 2007 by Allahpundit
I like to think of her as what Bush sees when he looks at Rove. The better Fred does, the more power she has, the cattier the smears are going to be.
Now, who wants to explain to Juan Williams that real trophy wives have no power? They’re ornaments. A.k.a. “trophies.”
Hence the term, Juan.
As the actor-lawyer-politician nears his long-awaited official announcement, Mrs. Thompson is slurred as a “trophy wife” — privately by her husband’s opponents for the Republican nomination and publicly by the media…
Murmuring about Jeri Thompson hit a peak July 22 on “Fox News Sunday,” when the program’s roundtable engaged in whimsical contemplation of debate between spouses of Democratic presidential candidates. “Well, first,” said Juan Williams of National Public Radio, “. . . I think you should get Jeri Thompson in here, the trophy wife, right?” William Kristol of the Weekly Standard interjected: “That’s unfair.” Williams: “Unfair, unfair, I know, but –” Kristol: “It is unfair.”
That ended the discussion. I asked Williams, a respected journalist, whether he regretted the comment. He did not, but he explained that he got the idea from a July 8 New York Times article by Susan Saulny. “Is America ready for a president with a trophy wife?” she asked in the paper’s Style section. “Subsequent to that,” Williams told me, “I heard the same thing in conversation with people in other campaigns — about her being so young, so attractive and so powerful.”
It’s encouraging to think that the New York Times’s Style section is setting the pace for GOP whispering campaigns. This is interesting, though:
Indeed, Fred Thompson’s close associates maintain that there was no chance he would be a candidate for president were he not married to Jeri. He tells friends that he abandoned what seemed to be a promising campaign for the 1996 nomination because he did not feel he could manage that endeavor as a single man.
I guess I can understand that, although the complaint among most candidates seems to be that they’re never alone. Aides, assistant aides, advisors, volunteers, strategists, lobbyists — they don’t lack for support. He’s talking about the emotional toll, presumably, but how much time do you have to reflect on that when you’re campaigning 18 hours a day for 18 months with an entourage around you at all times?
Incidentally, Novak thinks his $3.45 million fundraising take in June isn’t nearly as bad as people are making it out to be. For the same period, it’s about equal to what Romney did. Of course, Romney had already been in the race for months at that point and wasn’t riding a tsunami of goodwill from righties who were supposedly going to drown him in all the cash they’d saved up for when a real conservative finally jumped in.
After all the Fred criticism lately, I owe the Fredheads something enjoyable. Here you go. My favorite: “Early maps labeled uncharted areas ‘Here be Fred Thompson.’”
Update: You’re welcome.

A (loyal) wife is very different from all of that. She’ll still be there after the election, win or lose. She likes you the person and not just you the candidate. Both of those mean that she’s far more trustworthy than paid hangers on who see you primarily as a meal ticket.

Liberalism prides itself on being the bastion of feminism. Yet liberals ALWAYS act like rabid misogynists whenever any woman has the incredible bad taste to be simultaneously beautiful and intelligent.
Well, knock me over with a feather.

Fred Thompson ’08: “Because you’re really voting for his wife, who adds to Fred’s qualifications ‘T&A’ and gray matter. This is a vast improvement.”
If we’re going to be putting up hopelessly inexperienced, unelectable but popular TV candidates, why the hell aren’t we encouraging Chuck Norris to run? I mean, Chuck hasn’t announced either so he’s got the same likelihood as Fred of entering the race.
He’s already posted his comments on what he’d do if he were President.

Revenge of the harpies and their lapdogs –
Fred Thompson’s sin is that he never accepted his “undesirability” after his divorce. All divorced men are no good. Why else would they be divorced? Fred compounded his sin by marrying a beautiful younger woman. “Everyone knows” these loveless relationships so they’re married because she’s a gold-digger and he suffers from divorced male penile issues. Fortunately Fred did not make his sins worse by marrying the dreaded foreign hottie!
If you want proof that evolution is bogus look no further then the Harpius Americanus. If evolution was legit that animal would be extinct.

That there are more cable guys than elitists. I love Enrique :)
The thought of having “the wicked witch (tomas)” and Jeri on the general, in any capacity, is oh so enticing. Most nervous woman in the world about that – the Glacier.
I once met a real trophy wife, a near size 0, pretty and empty being who’s sole functions in life were jogging and hanging on his un-loving arm now and then. She was the wife of the CEO of a very large medical device company. We had jogged for cancer on a weekend and were invited to his/her house. In her lavish kitchen (the size of a mini-house) she said to me “tell me, what is it like to be a business woman?”. I sincerely felt very sorry for her.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on August 2, 2007 at 2:48 PM
So, now the groupies are spinning the fact that fred? doesn’t have the balls and gumption to run on his own race.
Good gravy! They whine about the Clenis and the credibility Hillary tries to lend herself by using him in her campaign, yet they jump for joy when Jeri is the one pulling freddie boys strings.
Are there ANY rational fred? supporters left? Most of them have backed away from fred? the lying fake because of the recent events, and it seems that all that is left are the groupies.

Fred! has a winner with Jeri. Formidable duo that has competitors worried.

Jeri appears to be an extremely intelligent, forceful and talented person. It’s no wonder the current field of presidential contenders in both parties are frightened by her. With any luck Fred will win and give her an important position within his administration.

Yeah, that’s what I thought. Can’t defend the lying fake fred? so they try another thread hijack by talking about csdeven.
Bwahahahahaha!!!
csdeven on August 2, 2007 at 4:07 PM
If we want to listen or read the Fred haters, we would go to the real source Media Matters. We are not interested in broken records (he is a liar…he is a liar…he is a liar…he is a fake…he is a fake…he is a liar), or posters just relaying what they read on the liberal posts.
The thread was not about him lying (although in haters mind that is all there is), it is about his wife and her inclusion in the campaign.
With that clarification, who is hijacking what?
Juan is a typical “repeater” (as are most of the haters), he reads the libs talking points “she is a trophy”, and without ever analyzing what he is saying shows his stupidity. The only saving grace of Juan, is that he actually admits to copying the hate. Others hide behind “objective” study of the facts. But like most lib type thinkers, he won’t admit the mistake even when pointed out to him.
right2bright on August 2, 2007 at 4:27 PM
Oh, that’s way too funny. I think I’ll just, for fun, turn the tables on Mitt supporters.
Are there ANY rational supporters for Mitt? Does Mitt have any friends except those he pays for? Mitt’s a lying liar because he once said he supported abortion and now he’s not. He’s a faking faker because he thinks it’s okay to drive with your dog on top of your car.
I have to stop now, I’m making myself nauseated. Saying “stuff” like that against someone is irrational. It’s not accurate, nor is it true.
I really tried to see your point of view on this, cs, but it’s in a really scary place. I’ll just have to hope you get it out of your system when Fred!!! becomes president. :)

Ah, but they’re never alone with the candidate at the end of the day, the one person who you can put love into the equation with. I can’t imagine going through the microscope that we put mere men into and expect to find them pleasing to every eye. He needs the balance that the one person who loves you — even when you aren’t at your public best — can give.
We’re electing a president, not a god. It’s often funny to me that all those with BDS claim Bush is responsible for everything. Now, that’s at least demigodhood.

He has not campaigned (hasn’t even made it official) for 18 hrs and 18 months. It will be more like 16 hours. Again he has lied, liar, liar.
Wait, here is another, from Webster.

THAT’s why I love you! You always “get” the subtle parts of my comments.
But, dear, YOU are not conditioned to attack me at every turn. You are about the only one who refuses to give me the power over the comments you post in response to mine. But you are right about many of them. They’d rather attack me than defend the lying, ball-less, cowardly fake fred?, who doesn’t have the gumption to run on his own. He has to have his wife do it for him.
Think about the lust for power that is behind this non-candidacy. She has the desire, freddie boy does not. freddie boy is possible electable, she is not. So, she pushes fred? into a position to become president so she can have the power. If fred? is elected, he will be her puppet, and the public needs to know that.
csdeven on August 2, 2007 at 5:15 PM
Rassmussen is so out of step with every other poll, they are starting to loose credibilty. Is Jeri writing their questions? Or is it frankj?
Fred is still getting trounced by Rudy by 9.3 points — and that margin is widening. And if by some miracle Fred announces and wins in the primary (He has two chances, slim and none and slim just left town), Fred gets stomped by Hillary.
Just keep tellin’ yourself, “but he hasn’t announced yet.”

From Novak’s piece.
Just because she is working with him on this does not mean she is the “puppet master”. I remember tin foil hat types saying the same thing about Cheney too.

How many times have you encountered and had conversations with the Thompson’s? Me thinks you can’t say these things unless you have had personal up close, face to face experiences with them.
Or, do you believe everything you read in the Daily Kos?
Whatever….in your own words: “freddie boy is possible electable”.
SouthernPride on August 2, 2007 at 6:13 PM

Bwahahahahahahaa!!!
Good gravy!
Do you remember Cheney being involved with Bush’s campaign staff? Were there accusations that all decisions in the Bush nomination had to go through Cheney? Did Cheney force top advisers out of his campaign?
Yeah, I didn’t think so. Jeri is the one with the desire, not fred?. That alone is enough to eliminate him from any rational consideration as a possible candidate.
csdeven on August 2, 2007 at 6:26 PM
And now all the moonbats have suddenly developed FDS – Fred Derangement Syndrome.
“His wife is too smart and too good looking!”
Wait a minute – what?
Seriously, the more insane and idiotic their insults are, the more adamant they become about them.
Of course none of us are in any kind of hurry. We have no problem with spending a few more months waiting to see whether someone better comes along. But the moonbats don’t ever waste time thinking anything through. Liberals are governed solely by instinct. They already sense in their marrow the threat posed by Fred Thompson, and they react in the only way they know how. To the hindbrain, hatred and fear have only one outlet: an inchoate and incessant antagonism.
The moonbats’ handlers probably wanted to wait a few months to officially sic them onto the new “Most Evil Man In The World.” But like a pack of overeager dogs, they’ve latched onto the scent of the leading Republican all on their own. And they won’t ever let it go.

Try looking up the meaning of the phrase “two dimensional thinking”. You are suffering from it.
freds? entire non-campaign is clear proof that he has no courage (or “balls” in man-speak). Any man who non-starts a non-campaign and lets his wife be the soul of the desire to faux-run, is a cowardly, ball-less, wimp. And like I said, that’s just the type of man you angry women types want for president. That’s why you defend him with your two dimensional argument.

You’re wrong. I’ve been studying freddie boy for months. Long before it was fashionable to expect that he be vetted along with REAL candidates.
fred? is a….
A) liar:
1) Claims he has ALWAYS been pro-life
2) Denied he lobbied for an abortion group
B) Fake:
1) Used a red pickup to fool supporters
C) Arm-twisting lobbyist:
1) Lobbied to deny asbestos victims their right to have an attorney represent them
2) Lobbied for a nuclear power plant that was cancelled after it cost the public a trillion dollars.
3) Lobbied for a dictator
4) Lobbied for an abortion rights group
Also….
He used $300,000+ from his senate campaign to start a PAC. His son ran the PAC and raised almost no money and he was paid more than what was used to help conservative causes.
He was a huge player in the McCain/Feingold law. A unconstitutional assault on the 1st amendment.
He has no executive experience.
He only repeats conservative ideas that others have already espoused.
He doesn’t understand Cuban immigration
He has no foreign policy experience
He went to London claiming he would get Margret Thatchers endorsement. He did not.
He only gives canned prepared speeches and only does softball interviews.
His Leno, Hoover, and London Q&A’s were dismal failures.
In all his interviews, he refuses to articulate a plan. The interviewer has to give fred? a scenario that he can agree with.
He said he will leave it to the whim of enlisted personnel to decide if we should stay or go in Iraq.
And that’s just scratching the surface.

Every time the Daily Kos spews out another reason that Fred Thompson has replaced
Ronald Reagan George Bush Newt GingrichGeorge Bush as the new Source Of All Evil In The World, the moonbats’ list just gets that much longer. And none of the bullet points will EVER go away. They “know” that Fred Thompson is lazy the same way they knew that Reagan was lazy, and the same way they know that George Bush is stupid, does cocain, etc….
This is a religion of sorts, but “Gospel” doesn’t come anywhere near describing the way these people feel about their hatred. I’ve never heard a fundamentalist of any faith who felt the need to compulsively repeat a litany on the evils of the AntiChrist.
Liberals constantly brag about being devoutly Godless. But they believe in the Devil more fervently than any other cult does. The craziest Muslim extremist in the world believes that the rest of us are simply misguided fools who worship an evil God. But liberals don’t retain even that tiny thread back to sanity. To liberals, Republicans actually ARE evil in the flesh.

You say I don’t attack you. Why should I, besides in good spirit, now and then? There are 1001 reasons to love you because you’re a good guy:
- you raised two fine boys who serve our country, concurrently
- you cook, and share recipes/ideas with us
- you garden
- you do the loundry, maybe
- you wish the best for your country and your party
- you have convictions
- aside from this obsessive Gargantuan anti-Fred thing, you actually post some pretty good thoughts on other threads, though not too many
Your arguments are not always based in fact, are sometimes hilariously funny, mostly repetitive rants (in fact I think if I’d talk in my sleep, I could repeat them by now, but I don’t). I already know that you’ll happily pull that trigger for Fred, if he’s the nominee. Also, we’ll drink in San Diego (even though I don’t like to drink), no matter who it will be. It’s just a matter of whether you or I are buying.
Negating some myths:
- csdeven is not a troll, and doesn’t have boobs, at least not the kind Hillary/Nancy/Jeri have shown. Attack his comments, but not the man. Know, however, he’s on our side. He’s just having too much fun.
- Fred has balls, both the real and the matter-of-speech ones, the cojones type, contrary to csdeven’s rants on this topic.
- There’s nothing wrong with wishing to be the First Lady of this great country.
- Novak is a carmudgeon and for him to be complimentary to anyone is a big deal (must have a kernel of truth in his lines)
- A Jeri/Hillary line up will be devastating for the media – they and the liberals love looks, ra-ra to the contrary notwithstanding. Jeri is not Jackie but let’s face it, Hillary looks like a trapezoidal tub in expensive clothes, but still the outcome is a tub.
No, she’ll then be the First Lady. The pictures will be precious, the articles endless, our joy beyond words.
And, today a colleague from New Jersy said to me “can you believe they wrote an article against Hillary showing cleavage?”, to which I retorted “did you know the NYT, and LAT wrote articles about Jeri T. being a trophy wife?” – - thoughtful looks, and silence…

I got a call tonight from the Romney campaign, wondering if I would like to consider a donation.
I said I didn’t think so, considering his record on gay marriage in Massachusetts. She asked what I meant, and I said he allowed the judiciary there to run over him with it, and he did nothing to stop it.
She got somewhat flustered, then went into her spiel of how tax cuts were important, and what Romney did with education.
She asked me if I considered tax cuts important, and I said not if my tax dollars are going to support benefits for those entering into same-sex marriages.
She got even more flustered (and a little PO’d) and I heard something about the call being paid for by the Romney campaign, which didn’t even complete, before she hung up.
Have a nice day Mitt!

Mitt Romney Facts:
When Chuck Norris was in financial trouble, Mitt Romney turned his debt around in 10 seconds.
When Superman realized saving people for free wasn’t going to put food on the table, Mitt Romney got him a job at the daily planet.
Batman wears Mitt Romney pajamas.
Other Candidates produce Ex-wives; Mitt Romney produces children. -In Mitt Romney Pajamas.

Governors can’t veto court rulings. He did what he could with the powers he had, which basically meant he contained it to Massachusetts and made it so you had to reside here to get it.
He was elected Governor, not God. I’m sorry he isn’t like say Fred or Rudy, who we all know stand ardently is support of traditional marriage… serially, of course. What the hell did you want him to do? Liberals owned 2(now 3) branches of government. He’s only one man.
BKennedy on August 2, 2007 at 10:44 PM
Nah. Other candidates produce legislation, Mitt produces gay marriage by doing nothing.
You should be sorry.
Yeah, nice obfuscation. So the courts are above God? or on a par with him?
The courts ruled that unless legislation were passed, the gay marriage issue would go forward, and Mitt decided to do nothing.
As for other candidates, I guess I would be more concerned if they were leaving their spouses for someone of the same sex.
Romney had the chance to uphold the constitution of Mass. and he chose to do nothing. Contained it to Mass?
Uh huh. What rock are you hiding under?
It’s been spreading since.

He was ordered to implement it by the Mass court. He could have 1) implemented a license that said “only good in Massachusetts” or 2) appealed to SCOTUS.
Now, when a couple “married” in Massachusetts comes to my State and is denied marriage benefits I’m going to have to pay for the costly litigation, and it won’t be directly to the SCOTUS. Same sex couples from other States are already going to Mass to get married (and have been granted marriage licenses) and then returning to their State of residence.
Unless you’re suggesting we ignore Article IV, Full Faith and Credit?
Don’t get me wrong. I think if the people of any State want to have same-sex marriage, or universal health care, or whatever, they should be entitled. But I don’t want them forcing it on my State. Romney’s actions have done that.

I guess Blow Kennedy decided to crawl back in his hole….

Anyway, back to the topic at hand….
freds? inability to grow a pair of stones and be his own candidate is a clear indication of how he will execute ANY position he holds.
Sorry freddie boy, you’re a coward, and I’m not going to turn to the first lady for leadership when dealing with this country’s enemies. You lose.
csdeven on August 3, 2007 at 12:25 AM
cs, sorry I left the debate last night buddy, had an extra inning ball game that needed my undivided attention.
I appreciate your passion in the matter of who our next leader should be. (although I believe it to be misdirected at times)
Who, pray tell is your candidate of choice at this very early hour of the 2008 presidential campaign? I ask so that I might do a little googling and a nexus lexis search and see what kind of liberal drivel, half truths and downright lies I might be able to produce to waylay them with. And while you are at it perhaps you could point out your man for the 2012 or 2016 race as well. I would expect that you would bear great anmomosity against any candidate for those races that has not already “officially declared”.

CS has made his support clear: “It’s probably somebody besides Ron Paul, so shut the Hell up about it!”
And CS has recently started to back off on his claim that he would love Fred Thompson like a non-platonic brother if only Fred would hurry up and declare tomorrow.
Now that the New York Times and the Boston Globe have provided two dozen (and counting) talking points, I think the moonbats have completely forgotten about the original reason they were all told to independantly believe that Fred Thompson is the new ReaganBushHitler.
