Video: Al Jazeera blows the lid off America’s illegal immigration problem

Can it really be considered an Al Jazeera piece when all of the content is provided entirely by the illegal himself? It’s more like “Jose blows the lid off America’s illegal immigration problem,” right?
Tape-recorder journalism at its finest. Tough questions and context only muddy the narrative anyway. Besides, Zawahiri doesn’t have to face any questions when they’re running his propaganda. Why should anyone else?

I wonder how popular I’d be wearing a I.C.E. T-shirt?

Good Lord what a complete load of horse manure. The arrogance of these people amazes me.
“We are not criminals.” What?!?!
You’re here ILLEGALLY you dingleberry. Therefore, by definition, you ARE a criminal.
I hope the laws change too. I hope they change them so that when they catch you, you immediately get loaded onto a bus with barred windows and your ass gets sent back to your country of origin.
Kowboy on August 1, 2007 at 9:35 AM
Ok Sancho. Read my lips. When you break the law, you are a criminal.
End of story

I don’t have to follow the laws, the laws change to benefit me.
I am so tired of seeing that. When will they go home where they are LEGAL?
Miss_Anthrope on August 1, 2007 at 9:39 AM
Afraid to come out???????
Not around here. When you go into our local store, spanish is the only thing you hear. My son works there, but he is currently looking for another job because he is so tired of dealing with them all day long. It’s not because he dislikes hispanics, he has hispanic friends, it’s because of the arrogant attitude so many of the illegals have.
Afraid to come out, why should they be?

“I make 20 times the money here as I made back in Honduras. / It is very expensive here and they pay me nothing.”
Then why are you here, with zero benefit over your life in your native country, suffering and hiding?
Sheesh.
Thank you Jose, thank you Al-Jazeera.

The illegal alien says, “we do not seek medical treatment…we live in fear.”
This is not true for the majority of them. Where I live, employers hire illegal aliens and pay them poorly, and then tell the illegals to go to the local Emergency Room for ALL of their health care needs, including outpatient blood work, routine physicals, etc.
The high “hidden costs” (ex: health care costs) of employers firing US citizens and hiring illegal aliens are simply tranferred to US citizens who incur higher taxes to pay for the subsizided social services of illegals. The employers never foot the bill.
In my state, children of illegal aliens have free medical care paid for and subsidized by US citizen taxpayers. In my state, pregnant illegal aliens receive free health care, free doctor visits, free maternity care. At my hospital we see anchor babies every single day. Sadly, many of these anchor babies have no committed father in their lives.
As someone who works in a hospital, my experience and others are that the majority of illegal aliens “are not living in fear.”
We see them flooding the ERs instead of going to outpatient taxpayer funded (US citizen-funded) clinics. This high volume of illegal aliens (who do not speak English) making Emergency Room visits for outpatient health care (translation: NON-ER type visits) causes the ER waiting room times to skyrocket, and forces more and more hospitals to financially shut down. In my area, 2 hospitals have already closed down due to bad economics related to the flood of illegal aliens receiving free medical care that is subsidized by US taxpayers.
I have compassion on the children of illegal aliens.
It is very sad that the children are the ones who suffer because of the bad choices of the parents.

Keli on August 1, 2007 at 9:56 AM
Why are you worried about “the laws” now? We already have laws, you just aren’t bothered to obey them.
Jaibones on August 1, 2007 at 9:58 AM
It never enters these people’s minds to make political changes in their own countries that will better their lot in life. That would involve a measure of effort and some balls.
It’s easier to break into America and take American jobs. He’s right. They do work for much less than Americans will. That’s because they all squeeze together living with two or three families in a single family dwelling and don’t bother with the expense of car or health insurance. If I could cut my rent in half and not pay for these things, I could work for lower wages too.
You see America, to accomodate the illegals we will have to lower our standards. Ask them if they care. What a joke. Only when New York resembles Mexico City will the open borders people (like Bush) be happy.
Ernest on August 1, 2007 at 10:01 AM
Oh, and the jobs that Americans won’t do? Let me list the ones I have done:
Deliver newspapers
Caddy golf clubs
Bag and carry groceries
Clean the butcher shop*
Factory maintenance*
Mow lawns and shovel snow
*Special Bonus Work: standing in three inches of water in a 10 below zero meat freezer, spraying high pressure steam to clean beef fat off the floor and walls, washing blood off of all the butcher equipment, and cleaning urinals (different place).
I loved it.
Jaibones on August 1, 2007 at 10:02 AM
I understand the ‘why’ of wanting to come here and seek a better life. Good for you. Now get in line and follow the rules and you can have everything you are seeking. You start off your American dream by breaking the law and it is small wonder why we object. Six Flags doesn’t like it when you ride the roller coaster without buying a ticket.

I used to do my grocery shopping at the Wally World Supercenter on Sunday mornings. Now I’m one of the few english speaking people there. And one of the few who doesn’t pay in cash. If the INS ever gets serious, a raid here on a Sunday morning would probably be well worth it.

I just want to point out to “Joe-zay” that if you are so scared of being treated like a criminal (which of course, you are), you can always leave. Great thing about America is that no walls keep you in.
And being a butcher is the worse task that an American isn’t willing to do? He does realize that throughout history and today, Americans have done a lot of crap jobs like everyone else. Oh wait, he isn’t a citizen, so he has no need or care to know about this country.
And afraid to seek medical treatment b/c of arrest? Right, all those hospital round-ups in those sanctuary cities are notorious. When the hell do police ask for papers? Do they deal with the STAZI?
Finally, I love how he admits that the reason he has these “jobs no American is willing to do” is because he is doing it for far less money and its really an economic decision by companies. Say, “Joe-zay,” maybe if you actually become a citizen the right way, you could get yourself one of those high paying jobs and do better.

I got in the huge mistake of having a political discussion at work, specifically about the crackdown of illegal immigrants in my state. My coworker, an immigrant from Guatemala had several arguments in favor of legalizing illegal immigrants. I shot them down one at a time.
1. If you try to get a visa in Guatemala, you have to pay $100 and your application can still be denied without a refund. Is that fair?
No, it’s not fair, but that’s an issue that the citizens have with THEIR government. Not ours. Is the United States responsible for fixing visa issues in every other country? No.
2. Think of where you get all your fruits and vegetables. Those people working in the fields are immigrants. Do you think Americans would do that work?
Yes they would. (She looks at me incredulously). YES, they would. They just won’t do it for $2 bucks an hour. (Oh, she looks smugly. So I’m right) No you aren’t right. Americans deserve and demand at least minimum wage. If those illegal immigrants are suddenly made legal and can demand minimum wage what do you think those farms are going to do? Go out and find more illegals to do it for $2 bucks an hour. Then you have a bazillion unemployed legal but used-to-be-illegal immigrants on welfare. Good move.
3. And this is the comment that made me walk away for fear of getting into a fight that would get me fired: “But they just want their land back”
What? “Their” land? Assuming she’s talking about the land that Mexico lost how many years ago? How does a 25 year old Guatemalan man have ANY claim to ANY land that may have belonged to Mexico all those year ago? Or an Ecuador or Honduras or Bolivia or whatever country they may come from? But using that logic, since my son is of Mexican descent, I should stake my claim to some land somewhere in Texas huh?
I’m still shaking my head over this. That’s what they really think, isn’t it? We aren’t breaking the law because it’s our land anyway.
CookeyD on August 1, 2007 at 10:12 AM
This illegal alien commits the same mistakes of the American Left. He confuses “Hispanic community” and “all Latinos” with illegal, law-breaking aliens.
While Latino illegal aliens may be the most vocal, it is important to realize that illegal aliens come from many non-Latino countries. This is because border security is non-existent. In my area, we have a large number of illegal aliens who are not Latino. While they do not speak English, they definitely do not speak Spanish either. But they are still here illegally.
The word is out on the street. Past amnesties (”path to USA citizenship”) have only encouraged more illegal aliens, particularly from non-Latino countries. After all, when our government policy is to reward illegal behavior (7 times since 1986) with USA citizenship, should we really be surprised when illegal immigration, Visa over-stays only skyrocket out of control???
And you USA citizen taxpayers are footing the bill.

Exactly right! When I was a teenager (many, many moons ago) There were tons of jobs avalible for me. And that was during tough economic times in this country. Now kids are having a bad time finding entry level jobs because employers want the semi-slave labor of illegals.

“Afraid to come out”, Bullsh&T! I own a small transportation business here in the Houston area. Just this morning one of my drivers was rear-ended by an illegal alien. The illegal tried to drive off, but was apprehended. This joker, in his broken English, tried to put it off on my driver, despite the fact that the illegal ran into the back of my company vehicle and there were witnesses. The illegal had no license or insurance (big surprise). BTW, the illegal was not taken into custody, he was RELEASED at the scene of the accident with a ticket to appear in court! Oh, I am soooo sure that he is going to show up. This is maddening! So, as I see it the illegal has broken several laws, 1) driving without a license; 2) no insurance; 3) hit and attempted run; and 4) illegal alien. Yeh, we’ll see him in court – NOT!
Here in Houston, we deal with this kind of crap everyday.

Maybe if insurance companies started filing suits against police departments to recover their expenses for settling claims caused by illegal aliens who were not arrested, they might start enforcing the laws a little more often.
Kowboy on August 1, 2007 at 10:26 AM
That’s true, it does go on here every day and that is one of the things that really asses me off.
If I had been the one who rear-ended your driver and pulled all that crap, I would have gotten a one way ticket to the cross-bar motel.

Yeah, we get it. Al-Jazeera is trying to show that the US is a racist, horrible country that treats immigrants like garbage and wants to drive all the Hispanics out. In fairness, I suppose Al-Jazeera is just trying to be like a normal American mainstream media outlet. Still, it stinks worse coming from them.
OK, al-Jazeera, since you’re so concerned about immigrations and the plight of immigrants, would you care to interview a Philippina maid working for a Saudi family?

Afraid to go out my ass. Living in fear my ass. Don’t seek medical treatment my ass. Police asking people for their papers? Yeah right.

infidel4life on August 1, 2007 at 10:41 AM
I had to quit my job to care for my elderly Father. I eventually had to go into the public health system to get medical care since I lost my health care. When I go, I am one of the few people who speak English. The rest are Spanish speaking. There is no fear of being outside. The Walmart here is filled to them brim with Mexican people who don’t speak English.
I have a Mexican neighbor, He is an awesome neighbor. He saved us several hundred dollars in repair fees on our old Truck. He is always helpful. I mow HIS lawn when I can. I’d certainly cry if he moved. Good neighbors are scarce around here.
There are good ones out there and can contribute very well.
It saddens me that the Government just made it that much harder for them to become citizens by raising the fees.
GoodBoy on August 1, 2007 at 10:43 AM
“Yeah, come on, America, stop being so selfish and mean. You owe us. We’re gooooood people.”
This is absurd. The illegals in my neighborhood don’t walk around in fear; they walk down the sidewalks, shop at the Vons, and pretty much get on in their own way.

Is al-Jazeera unintentionally telling its audience that the USA is where poor people aspire to be, and where they have it better than in their own undeveloped countries? Gee, I wonder if this gets any wheels turning in the heads of Middle Eastern arabs…

All we’re asking you to do, Jose, is legally apply for citizenship. Heck, you can even do it when you get here. Go through the process. Become a legal immigrant. Is that so hard?
And he gets paid $100 a day? $500 a week? $2000 a month? $24000 a year? Effectively $12.50 an hour?
Poor guy. I can see why he had to sell his drivel to Al Jazeera.

Another example of “their” great disregard for American laws: About 6 or so months ago, I received a call at my business from a man inquiring about a driver position. He began his inquiry with asking me if my company required legal residency to be a driver for my company. I answered with a question of my own, asking him if he had a valid Texas driver’s license. He said “YES”!. I asked how this was possible if he was not a legal resident. He answered with “Oh, I have papers”. I asked what kind of papers, toilet papers, paper towels, newspapers? This apparently ticked him off, in which his response was to call me a B&TCH. Before he had a chance to hang up on me, I told him I had his name and phone number on my caller ID and would be forwarding it on to the authorities (like that’s going to make a hill of beans). He then went into tirade, telling me there was not a blankety-blank thing I could do to him, expletive, expletive…and then he hung up on me.

Like I’ve said before, minus the emotional content it’s just…illegal.
We have the right to define our America and not the least of those very important definitions is American loyalty, people who come here must be 100% USA.
When people who live here and have even become citizens boo American sports teams (and many other USA traditions) and cheer foreign teams and traditions in this country, my blood boils.
How dare they come to my country and disrespect my USA (on so many levels)so vehemently and poison my home with hate.
There can be no fifty-fifty Americanism in this country. There is room here for only 100 percent, Americanism, only for those who are Americans and nothing else.

Driving through the desert on I-10 from California to Texas last weekend, I saw lots and lots of Border Patrol activity. It was nice to see, even though I know it’s not nearly enough. I was standing in line at a convenience store near the border in Arizona or New Mexico next to a BP agent, and I took the opportunity to thank him for doing the job he does. Just like when I thank a soldier, his face lit up with a surprised smile. He said it’s very nice to know that someone appreciates what they’re trying to do. Apparently people don’t thank them very much.
So next time you see Border Patrol, thank them for doing their job. Just like soldiers, they’re on the front lines trying to protect us and enforce our laws.

“We are not criminals…”
In 1980, our Federal and state facilities held fewer than 9,000 criminal aliens. But at the end of 2003, approximately 267,000 illegal aliens were incarcerated in U.S. correctional facilities.
Approximately 27% of all prisoners in American federal custody are criminal illegal aliens.
In fiscal 2004, the Federal govt. spent $1.4 billion to incarcerate criminal aliens.

Good point. According to an article in the Los Angeles Times, 95% of warrants for murder are for illegal aliens. Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.
Of course we all quickly and readily admit that not all illegal aliens are murderers or rapists. The point is NOT to stigmatize classes of people.
My only point here is to note:
Should we as US citizens be surprised at high levels of crime committed by illegal aliens when the very act of lawlessness—breaking the sovereign laws of the USA—is at the very core of what makes an “illegal alien” an illegal alien? Should we really be surprised that high crime rates (and declining home values) accompany illegal immigration when, by definition, these same people are law-breakers, and yet demand US citizenship as their “penalty” for breaking the laws of the USA?

No, the illegals are definitely not afraid to come out here, either. Just like the waters of Katrina, the Mexicans flooded New Orleans. Now my local WalMart looks like Tijuana. They have also set up those questionable vendor/lunch/taqueria trucks everywhere. However, recent legislation has said that it is illegal to have one of those trucks because food quality cannot be regulated. We’ll see…And you should see all the illegals hanging outside of the local Lowe’s and Home Depot waiting for work. The changes I’ve witnessed here in the two years since the storm are unnerving and I feel as though the flavor and uniqueness of my city has been poisoned, so to speak. Thank you, Hurricane Katrina!
Nolamom67 on August 1, 2007 at 12:57 PM
Very good point. And the “hidden costs” incurred by illegal aliens are then transferred to US citizens, who are basically subsidizing (translation: paying for a medical service in full) the free health care of illegal aliens.
Even hospitals are affected by economics. Even “not for profit” hospitals are directly affected by economics. At the end of the day, it is still costs vs. revenues.
And somebody has to pay for these transferred “hidden expenses.” The reason is because a hospital (whether “for profit” or “not-for-profit”) can only reduce and cut costs and expenses up to a point. Hospitals can only reduce staff and cut administrative overhead up to a point. Once they reach that point, then they are in financial dire straits. Then the only recourse is to transfer the “hidden costs” to US citizens.
I have a Hispanic friend who is a USA citizen. She is a nursing supervisor at a local “not for profit” hospital, and she is very mad at Bush, Graham-amnesty, Democrats for their bad responses to illegal immigration. She blames illegal immigration for causing hospitals to financially shut down.

Frankly the only person I like on Al Jazeera English is Riz Khan. He is somewhat fair, and he is actually engaging. Something you can’t even say about O’reilly or Dumb and Dumber (aka Hannity and Colmes). Khan used to work for CNN before this. If only he hadn’t left. Then CNN would be a better channel.

Oh, quit your whining. And your bragging about “doing what Americans won’t do.”
You’re not afraid to come out of your home. At least, not around here. I live close to a Wal-mart that everyone calls “Little Mexico” for a reason. Even the freaking signage, products, and the ads that play on those flat-panel tv’s they’ve got hanging around are all in Spanish. Which is why I refuse to shop there. I’m still toying with the idea of getting sloshed one night, running in, and shouting INS just to see what happens…
Dude. Get legal. Learn–AND USE–the language so you can talk to us. And get over yourself already!
jedijson on August 1, 2007 at 3:45 PM
If you are not criminals who are those spanish speaking guys packing our jails?
It is sad to talk to college students here. They have trouble finding summer jobs, except the ones reserved for legals: retail big box stores and fast food. I have heard them talk about how few offers they get.
Around here that means part time only, 32 hours or less to keep them from getting benefits, and minimum wage $7.15 an hour in Michigan. They can earn, before taxes $57.20 a day. $228 a week. At Wally world you get health benefits after a year part time, costing $50 biweekly for a single and $170 biweekly for family coverage with $1000 out of pocket. Good thing Jose isn’t allowed to weasel his way into those jobs.
But you go to Wally’s world big store and there are so many adults working there for the same wages, all citizens.
These lucky citizens would hate to become carpenters, bricklayers, painters, butchers, cleaners, landscapers like their ancestors were forced to become. They must thank the Lord every night that the system keeps them in Taco Bell.
It is so much better to earn $228 a week before taxes and social security and health care are taken out, then to make $100 a day being a butcher, not paying taxes, and being forced to use the ER to get totally free health care.
Build a fence? I would build a train to haul these law breakers out of the country.

Why is he being given the runaround in getting his visa renewed – isn’t he the kind of immigrant we want?
rockbend on August 1, 2007 at 5:02 PM
The big problem is that your friend is NOT the type of “immigrant” that the American Left Wing establishment wants.
The American Left wants people who do not obey our laws, since the Left hates the foundation of law, the Constitution. The American Left does not want entrepreneurs who believe in using free markets as a better and realistic alternative to Big Government. After all, the Left wants more socialism and more government intrusion into our lives. The American Left does not want married men who are committed to their wives and children, since the Left wants to redefine traditional norms, (rooted in human nature, society, reality, and God) such as “marriage,” into radical, postmodern, relativistic definitions.
The American Left does not want successful, entrepreneur, driven, pro-active people as “immigrants”, like your friend. The American Left depends on its very existence on people who want hand-outs and government checks.

Americans simply will not be butchers at grocery stores….
tell that to the Kroger unionized butchers. These illegals drive down wages for Americans, pure and simple FACT.

Tough, I say…if we paid for it too, then it’s OURS…bought and paid for.

Propaganda for the illegal alien. The media does not show the cost to American citizens and legal residenents: loss of jobs, lower rates of pay, lack of job security, among other issues.
There is no such thing as a job an American won’t do. The issue is the rate of pay, and Ferengi business owners that are more interested in profit than the interests of the United States and her citizens.
