Silky to lefty radio host: I’m amazed you’re still on the air

posted at 10:27 am on August 1, 2007 by Allahpundit

Yeah, given the ratings, I think we all are.

“We have to fight back against these people. We can’t let them do this kind of stuff to us. And they’re always going to be very powerful forces that don’t want us to hear my voice, and the voices of those like not just me, the voices of those like us.

They want to shut all of us up, Ed. That’s what this is all about. I’m amazed you’re still able to talk on the radio.

They don’t want to hear this stuff. And what we have to make clear is we’re gonna stand up and fight and we together, all of us, we will not be silenced.”

Via Brian Maloney, who notes via e-mail that the constant references to a shadowy “they” call to mind some of Perot’s greatest hits. Maybe. But Perot’s nuttier moments seemed sincere; Silky’s, true to unctuous form, are almost certainly contrived to appeal to the fightin’ nutroots, who now dominate his campaign. Nothing gets them off like the heroic image of themselves as a powerless but passionate grassroots insurgency challenging the establishment; the title of Kos’s book suggests as much. Edwards is just tossing them some chum on that count. The Man can’t handle the truth they’re selling so They have to make fun of Silky’s mane and try to silence Ed Schultz, whom no one except Ed Schultz has ever heard of. It’s all a “distraction” from the “real issues,” like the war on terror and the Anbar awakening and everything else that’s politically inconvenient for the left.

Expect plenty of quasi-conspiratorial garbage along these lines in his speech to Yearly Kos. Exit question: Does the fact that the entire Democratic presidential field skipped the DLC meeting and RSVP’d for yKos bear at all on what presently constitutes the “establishment” on the left?

Update: The web may be the nerve center of Silky’s campaign but he knows where his bread is buttered.

He is right. I don’t want to hear that stuff. That’s why I don’t tune into that radio station.

But I don’t know any rightie who would waste their time trying to get liberal radio off the air. It’s pointless. No one listens to it anyway. (Not to mention Conservatives generally appreciation for the constitution and the first amendment.)

Who is this Ed Schultz guy?

JayHaw Phrenzie on August 1, 2007 at 10:31 AM

So, what’s the point of having a nutroot base? It’s never going to get Edwards elected or anywhere in the primaries. So, what the hell is his point?

JayHaw Phrenzie on August 1, 2007 at 10:31 AM

The left’s attempt to get a foothold in talk radio. They probably think because he sounds less like a sniveling wuss like Kos and more surly like Bob Beckel, he’ll be more appealing to the average listener, who they believe is a stupid troglodyte.

Bad Candy on August 1, 2007 at 10:37 AM

Does the fact that the entire Democratic presidential field skipped the DLC meeting and RSVP’d for yKos bear at all on what presently constitutes the “establishment” on the left?

Yeah, the nuts have taken over the asylum.

N. O'Brain on August 1, 2007 at 10:38 AM

He should get his wife to shut them up. She’s pretty good at telling people what they can and cannot say.

Oh, wait. Wrong camp.

Let’s wait and see what his head blogger, Amanda Marcotte, has to say about this.

She’s what? Fired? You don’t say.

This crushing of dissent must cease! We need an HR army at NPR! Unleash the nutroots!

Pablo on August 1, 2007 at 10:38 AM

KP spun this on O’Reilly on Monday night by saying that the candidates show up to the DLC meeting prior to a general election not before a primary. To me that means the “moderates” have given up the selection process to the kos crowd.

Heh. But they aren’t the mainstream of the party Allahpundit, Kirsten says so…

So how does this help the Dems? They cater to Kosacks while support for the wasr rises, they have painted themselves into an ideological corner, hence Spanky’s outburst yesterday. Are hey really base enough to be for the war again?

The clip of Hilary screeching “Everyone knows this is George Bush’s war” will come in real handy in 2008. Yeah you are right Hil it is his war good thing were winning it. History will be far more kind to George Bush when Iraq is a functioning democracy. He and he alone is the reason we are still there.

Theworldisnotenough on August 1, 2007 at 10:42 AM

Who is this Ed Schultz guy?

He’s a self proclaimed former Republican who has “seen the light”, and he’s about the only lefty who has managed to make any sort of dent in the raticngs, with the possible exception of Alan Colmes.

Sure, he’s a raving nutbag, but next to Randi Rhodes he sounds pretty rational.

Pablo on August 1, 2007 at 10:43 AM

This was probably heard by what? 6 people?

conservnut on August 1, 2007 at 10:45 AM

This is exactly who where we want the Dems to voice their opinions…on a radio show no one listens to.

right2bright on August 1, 2007 at 10:45 AM

I can’t wait until they silence CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, PMSNBC, CNN, NPR and the other 98% of the liberal media.

Then they will have finally won and we can stop complaining about this mythical media bias.

JammieWearingFool on August 1, 2007 at 10:46 AM

Well, they are right about one thing, I wish John Edwards would SHUT UP!

:)

JayHaw Phrenzie on August 1, 2007 at 10:47 AM

Unfortunately he’s in aneighboring state North dakota… but that only encourages the left wiong media here in MN to cover him at all. But, with Schultz’d goofiness and now Al Franken running for the Senate here, you thought Jesse ventura was a joke?…. Should be fun. Kick lefties off radio? Why? It’s too much fun watching them commit seppuku!

MNDavenotPC on August 1, 2007 at 10:48 AM

Edwards is seeing monsters under his bed. This is a play to the base that think Bush has SS Shock Troops running around. Outside of their little bubble, it makes him sound stupid. No one is trying to silence him. That’s what his party is trying to do with the (Un)Fairness Doctrine.

Who is this Ed Schultz guy?

He’s the liberal Rush Limbaugh!…no, wait, that was the last half-dozen guys they tried to give a radio show…I don’t know who he is…does anyone?…Bueller?

CP on August 1, 2007 at 10:48 AM

left wing…. typing too fast with two fingers, sorry

MNDavenotPC on August 1, 2007 at 10:48 AM

Pablo on August 1, 2007 at 10:43 AM

Maybe, but next to a normal person he’s a barking Moonbat. If you can imagine lefty John Goodman in his Flintstones hairdo, trying to do serious political radio: bingo, you have Ed Schultz.

Jaibones on August 1, 2007 at 10:48 AM

Hey Edwards, put your money where you mouth is and go on Laura Ingraham’s show to get your message out. Double dog dare ya.

Laura would eviscerate the wimp.

infidel4life on August 1, 2007 at 10:49 AM

I wish John Edwards would SHUT UP!

JayHaw Phrenzie on August 1, 2007 at 10:47 AM

No way, Jay. Edwards is the life of the party, and he needs to keep the party going. He was a pandering, absurd caricature of a trial lawyer turned pol when this thing started, and he has devolved into a comedy on so many levels now…I can’t wait for videos of his speeches.

The fag walk, the blinking, the eyes closed poseur look, the hilarious “environmental” kook act with the 100 acre, 28,000 square foot house, and flying his fey hair stylist to North Carolina from LA for a trim? Are you kidding me?

No, Jay … Edwards cannot shut up. He needs to keep it flapping until the bubbles come up from the seaweed…

Jaibones on August 1, 2007 at 10:53 AM

Hey, why is this post here? Didn’t you get the memo, Allah?

Ixnay on the ilkysay!

Pablo on August 1, 2007 at 10:54 AM

“We” (TINW) haven’t tried to shut them (Ed Schultz, Air America, etc.) up, because “we” (TINW) want them to suffer the humiliation of being seen by America to the be losers they are. “We” (TINW) know that they will despair in mental anguish as they discover that nobody listens to them or cares what they have to say, becasue America thinks that the are rabbid idiots.

Or course, There Is No We, but they won’t believe it. That’s how paranoia works….

georgej on August 1, 2007 at 11:03 AM

Remember when Fox tried to silence Silky?

Or was that Silky trying to sideline Fox by refusing to appear on the most watched cable news channel?

“They’re trying to silence me by putting me on the air! I won’t give in!”

Pablo on August 1, 2007 at 11:03 AM

The sky is falling!

WOLF! WOOOOLF!

Hey, why aren’t you taking me seriously?

WOLF!

marc@hubsandspokes on August 1, 2007 at 11:09 AM

They want to shut all of us up, Ed. That’s what this is all about. I’m amazed you’re still able to talk on the radio.

Note to TPTB within the VRWC: Ed Schultz, whoever that is, must be… silenced.

Due to over reliance on our Reptilian Overlord’s teleportation devices it is no longer feasible to beam him to the mothership. It is suggested that the MIB or missiles that leave no evidence fired from black UN helicopters be utilized to deal with the problem.

They don’t want to hear this stuff.

This is entirely accurate. That’s why lefty ratings are so low.

Esthier on August 1, 2007 at 12:01 PM

That is too funny.

Nobody is trying to shut him up. If he wanted to, I’m sure the huge talk radio hosts, Hannity, O’Rielly, and Levine, and others, would love to have Silky spreading his message on their shows. Just call in. Anytime!

Bacchus on August 1, 2007 at 12:08 PM

Doesn’t he have to say something that makes people feel threatened before “they” try to shut him up? Or show some sign that maybe, possibly, somehow he might at least be nominated?
He does know we’re laughing at him, right? Not tearing our hair (heaven forbid!) in anguish over the effectiveness of his Fiery Words of Silky Liberal Truth?

eanax on August 1, 2007 at 1:14 PM

Nobody is trying to shut Edwards up. O’Reilly and Hannity would love for him to come on their programs and talk forever. It just takes some guts and real conviction in your position to confront opposing viewpoints and Kewpie Doll has neither. Maybe he should send his wife.

volsense on August 1, 2007 at 1:17 PM

…and I’m amazed you’re still a candidate, Silky.

James on August 1, 2007 at 2:14 PM

Hey, wasn’t it Silky and Hill talking about silencing the opposing voices and keeping them out of the debate?

Why, yes. Yes, it was.

Pablo on August 1, 2007 at 3:21 PM

His whole campaign is being built on she, they, them. First 2 Americas, AC, FNC, and now this. Sounds like he’s trying to build up a vast left-wing conspiracy to me…Or isn’t that already happening. My head hurts

PowWow on August 1, 2007 at 4:14 PM

Forgot about the Exit Question
Well it seems to be that way. But I saw harold Ford and KP saying that it wasn’t important for the primaries. I didn’t agree, but then again, I’m not a part of that party. So were they just toeing the party line?

PowWow on August 1, 2007 at 4:24 PM

Ed Schultz?

Of course I have heard of Ed Schultz. He owned the Buick dealership in one of the larger cities around here. Used to advertise on TV and in the newspaper etc.

LegendHasIt on August 1, 2007 at 4:30 PM

I see that HA and other conservative media-types got the memo from the RNC to step up attacks on John Edwards. “Whatever you wish, Master.”

Question: “If John Edwards is so bad or insignificant, then what’s with the right-wing obsession?”(Especially here)”

It seems to me that some (Republicans) are “skeert.”

sandman on August 1, 2007 at 5:40 PM

Question: “If Edwards is so insignificant, then why is the right-wing media so enamored with him, especially here.”

It looks like somebody’s “skeert.”

sandman on August 1, 2007 at 5:49 PM

We just like to hear him squeal.

NellE on August 1, 2007 at 6:06 PM

Ed Schultz and Al Franken were on for an hour each day (Limbaugh had only one hour a day also) on Armed Forces Network radio here in Japan. When the AM transmitter took a dump, Limbaugh still got an hour on the FM dial. I don’t know about the other two. Funny how even though they have zilch ratings in the states AFN gave them all the same 60 minutes.

Mack08 on August 1, 2007 at 6:37 PM
