Heh. The fearless green leader receives an armed escort to work while all of you mere citizens can't carry, much less own, a handgun in NY.

<blockquote>Number of weeks required for this sting: five. Number of Times employees needed to report it: three. Number of sidebar graphics accompanying this very important article: two. Political damage to Bloomberg: precisely zero.</blockquote>

The NYT's further decline in significance, priceless!

Rupert soon to cut into their advertising, news, cash, ego, significance, circulation, anything that's better than priceless.

Ethanol is just another one of the liberals "feel-good" deals. It doesn't matter whether or not it is cost efficient, practical or anything else. It just needs to sound and "feel-good" and that the end of the story. No need to actually examine the facts, because their minds are already made up.

To date, there are no commercial DDGS pellets available for livestock, which limits the byproduct’s use

from: www.ars.usda.gov/is/pr/2007/070625.htm

Byproducts may be used in the future, but are not apparently being used now...

Figures from: www.slate.com/id/2122961

Which are actualy worse than I knew about...

Add in that our Congress just RAISED the Miles per gallon of fleets of cars, without mentioning the 30% less energy E-85 has per gallon... and you see that they are NOT doing their homeword...

Catie, bingo. I think this excessive effort to dig up dirt on the part of the NYTimes is simply evidence of that theory. And I think its important to note, as well, that they were hunting for a particular type of dirt. They were hunting for the type of dirt that makes the lefties squirm. They were hoping to catch him in the act of destroying our so very fagile planet earth.

I have a prediction. The NY Times will not come out with a hit piece designed to expose Bloomberg's desire to raise taxes. I know I'm going out on a limb there but, what the heck, I said it.

romeo13, I think that data is based on a lot of incorrect assumptions.

It may take me a while to find it, but the 7 gallons of fuel for 8 gallons of ethanol study used bad accounting practices (for lack of a better term). Do you remember where those numbers originated?

The carbohydrates in the corn are turned to ethanol, leaving the protein behind which can then be used as a protein supplement for feeding animals (straight corn doesn't have enough protein). In other words, ethanol isn't the only end product.

There is currently an overabundance of food production in the world. In fact many countries pay farmers to set aside land and <strong>not</strong>plant food crops. The world hunger problem is due to so many people not having the resources to buy even government subsidized food. Growing more corn won't change that.

I'll admit, at this point its hard to get what I consider to be reliable information (from either side) on the true cost effectiveness of ethanol production and how much "economy of scale" there would be if it took off. Personally, I think we'd be better off if every state in the country had built at least two more nuclear power plants in the last three decades.

Ummm... do your ethanol research please!

It takes about 7 gallons of fuel to make 8 gallons of ethanol... (transport, creating, refining, getting it to the purchaser), and the fuel itself is about 30% less efficient...

So... if you use E-85 to MAKE E-85, it takes over NINE gallons of E-85 to make EIGHT gallons of E-85...

And its funded by $.51 per gallon of taxpayer money...

Add in that it is raising FOOD PRICES across the board (feed for animals and such) and we have a net fuel LOSS, Food, loss, raising food prices, funded at taxpayer expense...

Not very green...

The NY Times has reason to take Bloomy down. If he runs, he is going to take far more votes away from the Dem candidate then he will for the Republican candidate. Therefore he must be destroyed.

Nice to see all that money they save by using stringers in other countries being put to good use underwriting three jounalists in their 5 week quest to uncover how the mayor gets to work in the morning.

Which raises the question, how many NYT journalists does it take to screw in a light bulb? And how long does that take?

For the NYT, it was either this or stalking those nude golden girl paintings. Which works better for you, AP?

Betty did look kinda hot in leather though.

*yawn* Hey, I want a <strike>cushy</strike>tough, demanding journalistic assignment like that! Think of what these poor reporters had to go through--cooped up for five weeks in each other's company, the endless doughnut runs, the horror of getting up that early to waddle down to see Bloomberg leave the house... this story is just oozing drama all over!
