i’d like to see where anyone gets the idea these guys are making fun of the southern redneck instead of using it as a device to make fun of “idiot liberals”. there’s nigh on 30 vids from these guys and i haven’t detected any entrenched left wing tendencies yet.

The RSU vids follow the same formula: “Jackie” as the gun obsessed, racist, homophobic hypocrite drunk ironically drawls about the gun-grabbin’ darkie-lovin’ gay nanny stater Dang Ol’ Libruls with his chatty but witless sidekick “Dunlap”. Like Jaston Williams and Joe Sears did to Texas 20 years ago with “Greater Tuna,” Harmon and Shockley are mocking the people they saw (and knew they were superior to) while growing up in Tennessee.

Harmon and Shockley are film school performance artists from Tennessee and are not political conservatives.

Their vids and live performances in L.A. are made for the chic urban types that laugh at “Jackie and Dunlap” not the other way around. Their positive buzz from leftist anti-Bush media created the buzz that secured their content distribution deals with Canada’s FUSE network (their MTV clone–and it’s hard to deny how Canadians loves them some anti-America), DirecTV, Salon.com, and CNN.

As hard as it is to admit, Harmon and Shockley are not politically-conservative comedic geniuses that have deftly infiltrated the liberal media establishment in order to tear it down. I’m from Texas and I freely admit that Williams and Sears (the “Greater Tuna” creators) are not laughing with the majority of Texans but are laughing all the way to the bank with their hypocritical “Greater Tuna, Inc.” corporation.

So if you make heroes out of Harmon and Shockley just because you’re all from Tennessee, you’re going to be let down next year when they break character in an interview and express their optimism for the new direction the USA will take once a Democrat is in charge.

The RSU characters Harmon and Shockley perform are 100% real to them. “Jackie and Dunlap” are Harmon and Shockley’s way of mocking the people they hated growing up in their Tenneseean hometowns (Murfreesboro and Huntland). Harmon and Shockley couldn’t wait to get to get out of backward and uncool Tennesee and into the big city of Los Angeles. It was in L.A. they could manifest their derision for the cretinous farmers and feedstore owners who had rebel flags and gun racks in the Ford F-150s and be famous doing it.

To the oh-so-much-smarter-than-everyone-else-in-town team of Harmon and Shockley, everybody in their hometown was a Republican but them… and therefore every Republican is an uneducated and uptight racist godbag. That’s the whole point of RSU.

Yeah, it’s completely wrong, self-hating, and pathetic but it is what it is.

I make it my “mission in life” to torment the REAL THING — you know who I’m talking about, viz. the authentic urban, tree-hugging, card-carrying ACLU moonbat liberal whores here in the Seattle area. I shamelessly, relentlessly, incessantly mock them, ridicule them, taunt them, and laugh at them and their ideas — to their faces, in front of God and everybody, on a pretty routine basis. The public spectacle of it never fails to incense and infuriate them.

Good for you, but only for you. Your activity in Seattle–no matter how entertaining for yourself–is a one-on-one venture but RSU is one-to-many on a global scale thanks to the Internet. You don’t have a website with well-edited and easily shareable 2min videos of your witty repartee with the smug West Coast lefties. You aren’t regularly featured on a cable network’s morning show.

Of course, they like to make fun of me, too — when I am not around. I’m an easy target, since my Rocky mountain/red state/cowboy upbringing usually betrays my roots. But it’s a whole ‘nuther matter when it’s a one-on-one, face-to-face encounter. In fact, I sorta’ get my jollies out of watching them piss down their pant-leg when they see me coming their way. Most of ‘em run and hide when they see me (like the true cowardly weasels that they are), since they know that I don’t take prisoners.

I expect they’re probably arthouse leftists under the makeup, but Jackie’s character is still handled sympathetically.

I’m a fan of Dan Whitney’s drawling and good natured “Larry the Cable Guy” persona and have been since meeting him 10 years ago when he performed at the Cap City Comedy Club in Austin, Texas. All of the comedians on Blue Collar are Southerners that observe, understand, and brilliantly joke about the everyday things people do in America through their unique regionally-smoked lens (which is no different than what Seinfeld did through his own regional lens).

However, Harmon and Shockley (aka “Jackie and Dunlap”) are Southerners who hate everything about their regional culture. Every “Red State Update” is filmed self-flagellation by two Southerners that hate the people, values, and regional culture they came from.

CNN promotes RSU episodes because the network believes Republicans are so witless that they will actually identify with “Jackie and Dunlap” rather than view Harmon and Shockley’s caustic parody (itself a low-class shadow of Williams and Sears’ “Greater Tuna”) for what it is: A gutless and uninspired slam against Republicans for the chic urban leftist crowd.

Fifteen percent (15%) of American adults say that Presidential debates are exciting. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 58% say they are boring. Sixty-three percent (63%) of men and 54% of women find the debates boring.

Thirty percent (30%) say that the debates are informative while 50% say they are useless. Older Americans are more likely to find the debates useless than younger adults.

Ratings show that the most recent debate attracted 2.6 million viewers, a very small percentage of the electorate. A Rasmussen Reports analysis suggested that the debates may have little impact and that “only a major gaffe or startling policy pronouncement will break through the news clutter and impact the general public’s view of the race.”

Twenty-two percent (22%) say that debates are Very Important in terms of determining how they will vote. Another 38% say the debates are Somewhat Important. During Election 2004, the debates between President George W. Bush and Democratic nominee John F. Kerry had little impact. Following the first debate when the President did not do well, there was virtually no change in the candidate preference polls. However, Republicans simply decided that debates weren’t that important in determining their vote.

Thirty-three percent (33%) say there are too many debates while 30% say there are not enough. Twenty-two percent (22%) say the number is about right while 15% are not sure.

The nation’s youngest adults, those under 30, are more likely than their elders to find debates exciting (22%) and Very Important to their voting decision (33%).

Sixty-nine percent (69%) of Republicans find the Presidential debates boring along with 53% of Democrats and 54% of those not affiliated with either major party.

Thirty-nine percent (39%) of Democrats say that the debates are informative while 43% say they are useless. Republicans, by a 59% to 23% margin, say that the debates are useless.

Fifty percent (50%) of those not affiliated with either major party say the debates are useless. Twenty-four percent (24%) of unaffiliateds say they are informative.

You should definitely include a content warning on that. (Didn’t realize that these guys were actually Ace and Allah dressed up like rednecks, did you? Nor that Karol filmed their trip to see Brokeback Mountain…)

I like the Red State Update guys a lot, but I’m a sucker for corny southern humor. I suspect Allah is…less so.

Its not about running away- Its about being serious about the issues.

Red State Update, and contrary to what some here think not only are these guys funny as he11, there is a lot more intelligent thought going into what they are saying than appears on the surface.

Case in point: “you know, people say that Fred Thompson’s too lazy to run for President, you heard that? That’s just a Southern stereotype. And if there’s one thing I hate, it’s parading a bunch of Southern stereotypes through the mainstream media.”

And of course he says it on CNN. That, my friends, is well-placed irony.

Maybe Allah hates these guys, but I think they rock. That would be a rare disagreement with The Great One.

One of my favorites was The Jackie Broyles for President commercial: I have seen the future, and his name is Jackie Broyles.

That vid had to be a “double dog dare ya”.
