Get some demographics and statistics and while you are at it bet a little more faith in the intelligence of 18-22 year olds. The ones who spend their time in front of MTV don’t even vote. The ones who have a life skew conservative more then people think.

Wow, do the demos count that in 88 Bush got the young vote? I thought all they did was just veg all day. Well, some of them went out and voted back in 88.

Its nice to know that you don't think a party needs the votes of 18-22 year olds. Go ahead, blow off the young vote, see how far it gets you. You heard it here first...18-22 year olds, your votes don't matter.

Most 18 year olds do not know who the president is, much less the difference between a democrat and a Republican. How does something this completely ignorant make it to this site?

Have you set foot on a collage campus lately? Do you know what you are talking about?

Thats right fellers, work for your defeat.

That's pretty much all YouTube is, a bunch of kooks talking to a camera like they are actually talking to someone. Weird.

Bush Sr. lost because of Ross Perot. Plain and simple. Go back to watching MTV.

And I for one would be very concerned about a candidate who was too concerned with those who spend their lives watching MTV.

And once again, Clinton never got 50% of the vote. He won because of Perot. 18-22 year olds did not vote for Perot.

Most 18 year olds do not know who the president is, much less the difference between a dimocrat and a Republican. How does something this completely ignorant make it to this site? The CNN-YouTube debate is the absolute gutter of politics because CNN can say it wasn't us, "it was the people." That after 100s of hours finding the right moronic question to embarrass the GOP. The dims refused Fox because of tough questions, the GOP should avoid CNN because of an all out attack of total ignorance.

Kids that watch MTV don’t watch debates. Most of them don’t even know who the Vice-President is. Trust me. The YouTube debate audience, especially this far out in the election cycle, are a) YouTube junkies; b) political junkies; and c) captive audiences in thousands of hospitals, nursing homes and other institutions and businesses nationwide where the TV is permanently locked on CNN.

I agree, kids don't watch debates, but 18+ in college do, and they also watch MTV. Clinton milked MTV for all he could, even Perot went on MTV if I remember correctly, but even republican strategists agreed that one of Bush's mistakes was he did not take the young voter seriously and that is one thing among many that hurt him.

I was 22 when it was Bush, Perot and Clinton and that Rock The Vote crap was everywhere. Now, if the only person to address the young voters was Clinton, then in their minds Clinton was the only one who mattered. I mean after all, what would you think of a man running for president who didn't think you were even worth addressing?

Again, every vote counts, even the young stupid 18 year olds who only watch MTV.

I’d like to see more questions like this one.

jic on July 27, 2007 at 9:17 PM

While I agree with you, I'm afraid that her idea of the correct answer to her question would ruin it for me.

I voted for Dubya twice, still, I love this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfwKQpP7XM0

As for the clip on this thread...I think it's sad how far Topher Grace has sunk since his show ended.
Seriously, though, someone ought to examine this kid for a closed head injury.

As for the debate, AP is right. The GOPers won't get the same softballs the dems got. And so they're damned if they do, and damned if they don't.

I'm for getting rid of all debates, unless they bring back the Lincoln-Douglas debate format for the final two. Other than that they should each get their butts out to the public and answer questions in townhall meetings.

All others have become a charade which isn't even entertaining. Nothing useful comes out of them and the media get way more exposure than they deserve.

I'm not sold on the conventional wisdom of doing the moron video debate. What's next? Try to get the black vote by lining up to smooch Al Sharpton's butt like the Democrats do? How about a breakfast with La Raza, telling us bigots to 'shut up'? Where do you draw the line with pandering? They can duck it and be mocked; or they can go and I guarantee that CNN will make sure they get questions that will make them sound like fools. It's a no win situation. I think Romney had the best thought that it's beneath the office. And of course, anything that McCain is for must be wrong.

At first thought, a YouTube debate was a bad idea. No credibility, no serious discussion. Then I'm reminded of the last two GOP debates, pMSNBC and FOX, where FOX really distinguished itself and the Dems wanted to run away from FOX.

While the field is still coalescing and the first primary is still far away. Why not have fun with this? So many have pointed out the Dems fear of FOX, then why not have a goof the the CNN YouTube joke. All they have to do look presidential, put on yer best suit, comb yer hair, and shine yer shoes.

And they really don't have to answer any questions, just pontificate.

It doesn't matter whether they do it or not at this point. The fact that they balked at it is more than enough for the left to claim victory. If they do the debate, one of the questions is sure to be "why did you have to be forced to answer questions from the people", or something along those lines.

Stand in the batter’s box, take a pitch to the head, and then take your base.

Couldn’t agree more. They need to be able to say, “we went in the lions den, fielded stupid questions without follow-ups from a bunch of idiots, yet the Democratic candidates are such pu$$ies they can’t even go to a regular debate on Fox News, which are completely fair, regardless of what you may think of the network overall.”

they need to be able to symbolically say it… By attending the debate, they have the upper hand on the Dems who are afraid to debate at FNC.

That is very, very funny.

If the candidates go on this thing, call the stupid questions stupid questions, then the next day the msm will say how angry and negative the debate was and how the candidates dodged the issues.

And who exactly is going to report them saying these things?

Well they'd never actually have the balls to "say" it, I'm talking they need to be able to symbolically say it... By attending the debate, they have the upper hand on the Dems who are afraid to debate at FNC.

The candidates aren't afraid of tough questions, they can see the writing on the wall. CNN is not going to take it seriously and will present a series of snowman questions that will do nothing except lower the expectations of the candidates.

They should still do it anyway because they can always side-step the ridiculousness of the question and answer with a substantive response.

George Bush Sr. blew off the MTV crowd in his run against Clinton and it cost him seriously. Yes, young people can be idiots, but if you treat them like they don’t exist, then in their minds you will not exist.

Kids that watch MTV don't watch debates. Most of them don't even know who the Vice-President is. Trust me. The YouTube debate audience, especially this far out in the election cycle, are a) YouTube junkies; b) political junkies; and c) captive audiences in thousands of hospitals, nursing homes and other institutions and businesses nationwide where the TV is permanently locked on CNN.

Oh Allah, just admit that that's you in the video!

Seriously though, what's up with this dude... is he auditioning for something?

The reason to attend is purely and simply to evaporate the advantage the Democrats would accrue if the GOP ducked it. Stand in the batter’s box, take a pitch to the head, and then take your base.
