<blockquote>This generation gets to completely change this world.</blockquote>

And thus, C.S. Lewis becomes the oracle of our time. (When reading the following, understand that the author is writing in Great Britain immediately following World War II)

<blockquote>'Man's conquest of Nature' is an expression often used to describe the progress of applied science. 'Man has Nature whacked' said someone to a friend of mine not long ago. In their context the words had a certain tragic beauty, for the speaker was dying of tuberculosis. 'No matter,' he said, 'I know I'm one of the casualties. Of course there are casualties on the winning as well as on the losing side. But that doesn't alter the fact that it is winning.' I have chosen this story as my point of departure in order to make it clear that I do not wish to disparage all that is really beneficial in the process described as "Man's conquest,' much less all the real devotion and self-sacrifice that has gone to make it possible. But having done so I must proceed to analyse this conception a little more closely. In what sense is Man the possessor of increasing power over Nature?
Let usconsider three typical examples: the aeroplane, the wireless, and the contraceptive. In a civilized community, in peace-time, anyone who can pay for them may yse these things. But it cannot strictly be said that when he does so he is exercising his own proper or individual power over Nature. If I pay you to carry me, I am not therefore myself a strong man. Any or all of the three things I have mentioned can be withheld from some men by other men - by those who sell, or those who allow the sale, or those who own the sources of production, or those who make the goods. What we call Man's power is, in reality, a power possessed by some men which they may, or may not, allow other men to profit by. Again, as regards the powers manifested in the aeroplane or the wireless, Man is as much teh patient or subject as the possessor, since he is the target both for bombs and for propaganda. And as regards contraceptives, there is a paradoxical, negative sense in which all possible future generations are the patients or subjects of a power wielded by those already alive. By contraception simply, they are denied existence; by contraception used as a means of selective breeding, they are, without their concurring voice, made to be what one generation, for its own reasons, may choose to prefer. From this point of view, what we call Man's power over Nature turns out to be a power exercised by some men over other men with Nature as its instrument.</blockquote>
- The Abolition of Man, Chapter 3

The extreme arrogance of that statement made near the end of the video clip that "This generation gets to completely change this world", causes me to point out that any group of humans given the authority to make changes which affect all other humans, those contemporary and all generations to follow, will destroy the human race. Madmen of every era desired to "rule the world" through force, and were rightly opposed because they would kill most of humanity to accomplish that goal. These would rule the world through their selective decisions, and guess what, the environmental crowd is also the "reduce the human population" crowd, and would destroy much of humanity to accomplish their goals. They too must be opposed, just as strongly and for exactly the same reasons.

Kyoto was a trial balloon for them. Don't be fooled.

If it's "global warming", how is it that it only affects the NORTHERN hemisphere? Wouldn't that make "hemispheric warming"? Oh, and on the topic of GLOBAL WARMING, wasn't there some story about 70 Peruvian children FREEZING TO DEATH? Global warming is simply another attempt by a group of Marxists to take control of the economy and your life.

Check out Joseph Farah's obit for ALGORE Sr. at World Net Daily, from 1998. He clearly shows the links from Lenin to Stalin To Armand Hammer to Al Gore, Sr.

<blockquote>Hmm, it seems this “there are too many of us” line is being bandied about with increasing frequency. Couple that with the “quality of life” talk regarding embryos and the elderly.

Now add it up. The ultimate implications of this line of thinking are a tad unsettling.</blockquote>
Yup, there are people on the left who are eager to start euthanizing people in the name of the environment. Think of the victims as sacrifices to Mother Gaia. For now it's going to be the elderly, but eventually...

This is what happens when you devaule life to the tune of 30,000,000+ abortions.

Extremely!
USAID foreign assitsance was once heavily into building roads and tangible thoings like food aid. The Clintons shifted it over to focus heavily on two sectors: Environmental Issues and condoms.
Made US foreign aid look ridiculous, and irrelevent to places with more pressing needs fighting malaria, dysentry, dengue, malnutrition, etc. ... and more than a bit smutty.
Culturally, in Africa, children are (charmingly) still considered wealth. What do Africans interpret when they ask for schools, educational materials and so forth to give the upcoming generation a shot at a better life, but are offered condoms by the containership-load?
And they've commented, plenty.

I wonder how the Leo's of the world explain the <a href="http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/planetearth/extinction_sidebar_000907.html" rel="nofollow">Five Great Extinctions</a> that occurred on Mother Nature's watch, long before the first simian brow was raised.

Triassic SUV's?

Devonian Lear jets?

Cretaceous-Tertiary power plants?

<em>Maybe the Leo's don't know anything about the history of our planet.</em>

Other than what's on the idiot cards in front of them.

<strong>Prove it!</strong> I say, prove that man is responsible for climate change. Where is the evidence? Where is the correlation?
Prove to me that this isn't just a normal cycle the earth goes through every so often.

Hmm, it seems this "there are too many of us" line is being bandied about with increasing frequency. Couple that with the "quality of life" talk regarding embryos and the elderly.

Now add it up. The ultimate implications of this line of thinking are a tad unsettling.

Girly-boy Leo still has that feminine voice, but I guess the women love him......whatever!

So you have a trailer with some polar bears walking through trash dumps, lots of smoke and debris, Leo talking about something he knows nothing about, pseudo-scientific predictions, etc............it will sell like hotcakes!

All the movie really needs to emphasize is some good ole' Bush bashing and they have a blockbuster on their hands.

<blockquote>Regarding the man who presided over the world's worst ecological catastrophes: Gorbachev:

But ejected from power less than seven years later, he faced a challenge. Unwilling to retire, he needed to find a new outlet for his political energies. This posed a problem, because Gorbachev could not afford to openly fly the banner of his communist convictions, since a declaration of allegiance to this well-discredited ideology would have resulted in his marginalization if not ridicule.

To remain credible, Gorbachev had to look for a more respectable platform from which to continue his efforts. This he quickly found in environmentalism and less than two years after his fall from power he founded Green Cross International, a Geneva-based eco lobby group.

It is not at all surprising that Gorbachev – like so many others on the Left – has found environmentalism so attractive given that it in a furtive way tends toward the very essence of socialism. It is precisely this covert quality that makes this brand of activism so palatable to true believers in the post-communist era. </blockquote>

1) Is Dicaprio one of those neo-Hollywood elites who never went to college? Course, with the crap colleges are teaching today, it might not help. Having an airhead with no education intone in a grave and important way, means he was <strong>ACTING like he understood anything he said</strong>
2) Is everyone aware that IF the sea levels rose with the complete melting of the Greenland glacier and the Antarctic ice sheets, there would actually be a NET INCREASE in land mass? Antarctica is a continent - a solid land mass - and would be exposed. The Antarctic plate would actually rise as the gazillion tons of weight of the ice melted off it. Lose Florida, Long Island (which are going to erode away eventually anyway) but get a huge new habitable continent.

3) No. 2 is completely hypothetical fantasy because the entire Earth would have to go to boiling point before Antarctica could warm enough to barely make it just to a measly 32 F degrees to melt the ice frozen currently at ranges of -50 to -100 F on it. Anyone recently try to melt ice at ... say -30F ?

I think he' funny when he plays tough guy roles. Gangs of NY, The Departed. He's just so believable. This is another great "role" for him. Remember the Oscars? The adoration when he was staring at Goracle. They had such chemistry. Maybe they should do a movie like this together.
