Here’s Lucas’ original description of the first appearance of Han Solo in his original draft of the screenplay:

“Han Solo…is a huge, green-skinned monster with no nose and large gills.”

A little rewrite and it turned into Harrison Ford.

I did get a chance to meet Mr. Lucas during the filming of Howard the Duck. The film crew was blocking the road near my home in Marin County, CA and he personally apologized to me and my wife for the delay. But he has never apologized for the actual movie.

Actually, it might surprise many of you to know that Lucas is an avid trap and skeet shooter who hangs with the likes of Tom Selleck(sp?) and collects very expensive shotguns. But shhhhhh, this is one of those ‘Hollywood’s best kept secrets’ ;)
