Video: US meets with Iranian ambassador involved in the Iraqi insurgency
posted at 5:43 pm on July 24, 2007 by Bryan
The US met with Iranian officials today, one of whom is directly involved in the violence in Iraq according to CNN’s Michael Ware.
“While the US ambassador is sitting there, talking about Iranian special forces units helping Iraqis to kill Americans, he’s talking to an Iranian ambassador who’s a member of that Iranian special forces unit, according to Western intelligence.”
The Iranians probably put that ambassador in the room just to provoke us, or to laugh at us after the fact. And we do nothing about it, or the hundreds of American troops who have been killed by Iranian weapons in Iraq.
Our position in Iraq has become absurd. Those who are pressuring our government to meet with the Iranians never bring up the fact that Tehran is presently holding Americans hostage and forcing them to “confess” on Iranian TV. They never acknowledge that the Iranians’ interests in Iraq don’t now and never will converge with ours. We are in Iraq in part to democratize the Middle East, which is definitely not in the totalitarian mullahs’ interests. And the critics never acknowledge that their own pressure applied on our government to chat with the Iranians, while never acknowledging that Iran has been a major bad actor in Iraq, gives the Iranians the upper hand in negotiations. The Iranians know that they’re dealing with an enemy that is divided and unsure of itself.
Yet here we are, meeting with the Iranians as though tea and crumpets will solve the war that they have been waging on us via Hezbollah and even by alliance with al Qaeda itself for thirty years. It’s all absurd. They are driven by their Islamic revolutionary zeal, and we are the “Great Satan.” And that’s just the way it is. Talking won’t solve that.
We aren’t suffering in Iraq because we have been too aggressive toward Iran, as the critics would have it. We’re suffering in Iraq because we have been pushovers in the face of Iranian aggression, giving them whatever they want while we stand with our tail between our legs.

The only meeting should have been one between the Iranians are their own IED’s ….being returned to them on the road to this get-together.
Talk is cheap. Shaped-charges are more to the point.
Let the Iranians taste the kind of terroristic death they export.
profitsbeard on July 24, 2007 at 5:49 PM
“and their own IED’s”, not “are“.
profitsbeard on July 24, 2007 at 5:50 PM
We need to meet Iran to ask simple questions.
Like “How long has there been a Persian civilization … not counting tomorrow”?
TunaTalon on July 24, 2007 at 5:58 PM
But, but, last night Barack Obama said if he was President he would engage in talks with the world’s bad actors in order to settle our differences. If the Chosen One thinks things can be solved by talks and meetings, who are you speak otherwise??

Here are all the words we need:
Stand down or die. And if you try to stand up again, you will die.
Then follow through with prejudice.

I think we need to sink their navy again to make our point….
liquidflorian on July 24, 2007 at 6:41 PM
Furthermore, I would like to say F**K Jimmy Carter for getting us into this mess.
liquidflorian on July 24, 2007 at 6:44 PM
Just like Stak’s part 2 with Dr. Tawfik.
Our meeting with Iran is a sign of weakness to them. The “Great Satan” has to ask for help for the lowly Iranians. Each meeting continues to show our weakness which invites more attacks.
Smooth move by the illustrious senator from Illinois Barack Hussein Obama. Just think if a sitting US President were to meet with the leaders from radicalized Islamic nations. How weak would we look then? We might as well detonate the tactical thermonuclear devices on our shores to save them the trouble.
There was a great song by the metal group Drowning Pool called “Bodies”. “Let the bodies hit the floor…” The time for talk is over. The Islamists only know one thing…..it’s either their way or no way. I want our B-2 pilots listening to Drowning Pool over Tehran.

Ignoring the sarcasm for a moment: The Chosen One is a douche bag. He is being properly flayed by The Pantsuit for his state senator – quality comments.

I would really like to know what exactly was said in that “heated exchange”.
Here we have a diplomat who openly acknowledged our intelligence posture. Such a move in such a meeting is tantamount to telling the man he’s on a target list. One that I hope is rapidly being completed.

I wonder if it’s possible for something really bad to happen [how, I have no idea ;O)] to some rather limited oil refineries in Iran. I’d sure hate for the whole country to be sans fuel … for a very long time. Then, we could “talk” about whether or not a massive fuel shortage would have any adverse effect on the that lil’ fella with SSS. OK … re: “SSS” … the first word is “short” and the last word is “syndrome” – and that middle word, well … use your imagination.
:O)

Arrrrrrrrrrrgh! The only thing these people understand and have ever understood is force and the will/application to use that force. It needs to be total, brutal, complete and overpowering. You beat them down so badly they are the ones that come crawling to the table because your will is stronger or it becomes too expensive for them to continue. That’s it. Period. Everyone knows this.
Why we ever changed the ROE after overthrowing Saddam I will never know but since then we have been pussyfooting around and good men have died because of it. Why are we spending hundreds of billions of dollars on our military when we ALWAYS tie their hands with rediculous ROE’s, PC BS and “benchmarks”. Why even deploy them if we then cut them off at the knees! Whenever we let the military do what they need to do we win and clean house, only to loose it because of these damn rules politicos implement. We have the most lethal weapons in the world which we brag about but never get to use because of damn politicians and this neverending stream of conscious PC BS.
Sorry to rant but it’s just so damn frustrating to see this playing out like it is. ALL of us know where this is headed. We all know what is going to happen when we up and leave. We all see it yet Congress won’t grow a spine and do what needs to be done and we are going to have to go back in there yet again later and then do the exact same thing we are doing now with probably the exact same strategy leading to the exact same result.

You wonder if talks are happening just appease the left?
See, we’re talking…., and using harsh language

Does Michael Ware like a lunatic to you guys? Or is it just me?
He has that creepy “I’ve-Been-Up-For-Days” look combined with the “way-too-much-whites-goggle-eyed-Marcos-Moulitas” freakish stare thing going on.
Weird!!

Gah.

Michael Ware drinks more than Allahpundit. Disclaimer: I drink more than Michael Ware and Allahpundit put together. My point is that Ware is not emotionally stable as far as I can tell. He’s wide-eyed and nervous. He should take a break.

I prefer Newt’s hypothetical dialog with the Iranians when he commented on British sailors back in March. I also liked Duncan Hunter’s answer, I think in the first debate, in regards to his opinion on Iran and how to put the smack down. I thought, man I like this guy…
But this Administration seems to not dare get tough with Iran, and the way he’s been constantly demonized by the Left for the past 5 years I can understand. But I think we are gonna see people get nuked if we don’t deal with this country soon. There are a lot of countries that want Iran to calm the f— down, and several are in that region. We would have allies in that effort.
Maybe he doesn’t want to take on another war because he feels obligated to Nation-build and provide a military presence.. The “break it you bought it” thing Colin Powell was talking about…

I’m with you. Some days I wonder if I will wake up and crawl back through the worm hole to the “real” America.
I suppose it’s too much to hope that the tea they served up for the Iranians was Polonium Mist?

LEGETIMATE NATIONAL INTERESTS,PLEASE GIVE ME A BREAK.
The only meeting……

American,s in Irag, and the Coalition forces in
Afaghanistan it,s going to be business as usual.

So it isn’t only me who noticed. I’m told his nic is “Crank” and it’s not because of grumpiness. Speed takes him Up, and al-co-hol temporarily smoothes him out……
Still, he gets it right about half the time, which is far better than most CNN flunkies & war-whores

I doubt we’ll invade and occupy Iran, but I think (hope) that we’re laying the groundwork to say “We tried to find a peaceful solution…before we sank their navy, shot down their air force, bombed their army into scrap, blew up their refineries, and turned their nuke sites into smoking craters.”
After all, there’s nothing Bush can do to make his image or poll numbers worse, unless a dead girl or live boy are involved. May as well end his administration with a bang…literally.
But maybe that’s all wishful thinking, and I can expect a mushroom cloud out my window within a few years. I used to think the survivalists were nuts…
