The presser was set for 6 p.m. ET but it’s been delayed for whatever reason. Whether it’s summer doldrums or just my outrage meter being on the fritz, I honestly couldn’t care less what happens to this turd at this point. His comic value as a caricature of the caricature that is academia is long since depleted. The only reason to cover it now is closure.
U of C’s president recommended that they fire him — for plagiarism and fabricating data, remember, not for his politics — back on May 30 so it’s a fait accompli that the axe will fall. In so doing, the university rids itself of a PR disaster and “Chutch” finally gets the role he was born to play, that of the truth-speaking “brown person” whose dissent the man just can’t handle. Win/win. If you’re looking for substantive yet zestily schadenfreudean coverage of the announcement, try Pirate Ballerina; they are to the Churchill saga what KC Johnson was to the Duke lax case. My one hope is that the chief and his tribe throw a tantrum at the hearing after he gets sent down the trail of tears so that at least we’ll wring some video out of this snoozer. Cross them fingers.
Update: The scene earlier outside the hearing. He’s pretty snappy with those comebacks, eh?

Update: According to NBC Denver, those poles he’s carrying in the heckling video are a “Native American symbol.” Har.

Update: The school president and head of the board of regents went out of their way afterwards to emphasize that it was his ethical lapses that sunk him, not his political views. The AP headline: “Professor fired for 9/11-Nazi comparison.”

I’m a microbiology professor, and I could see that this guy was parasite from Day 1. Good riddens. He (and others like him……OK, 80-95% of college faculty) gives black eyes to the slim conservative minority of college professors. Besides, it’s hard for me to work any political stuff into a lecture about parasitic worms. That is unless the topic of global warming and evironmental nutroots slips out. Oops.

I’m an endangered species (conservative, Republican, white, male, Christian, public university professor) and it’s pathetic that it has taken so long to get someone like him off of the state payroll when other good professors (yes, even when tenured) can find themselves fighting for their jobs against a corrupt administration. I know, ’cause I’m living it right now with some other collegues. Higher ed deserves it’s current reputation. Just one more thing leftys like him have ruined.

Trust me Spirit, you’ll have to get rid of 2/3s of all faculty to fix the problem you are angling to start fixing with Ward’s departure. I work closely with some University types. Many of these people openly claim Maoist ideology while others are “simple socialists” whatever the hell that means.

Churchill and his cretinous ilk give us professors a bad name.The irony is that academics like to think of themselves as critical thinkers and capable of intelligent analysis. One of my colleagues (I teach English) once said that ‘raising taxes is great because it funds social programs for the poor.’ Until I pointed out that those poor people he wishes to help have to pay taxes too, a disproportionate amount with respect to their income especially rent/property taxes. His reply? ‘I never thought of it that way.’

Technically accurate, because he was fired “after”, but still the headline is an intentional complete lie. Even more obvious how intentional, given that they went out of their way to change it to something still wrong (again the “after” makes it technically accurate, but any person that reads it reads it as he was fired for the comments)

The terms ‘pompous’ and ’self important’ crossed with ‘delusions of grandeur’ come to mind when considering Chutch. I might even agree that he was fired as a result of his comments re 911 - without him making them, no one might have cared about him, but when you intentionally put yourself on the radar screen don’t complain when someone hands your butt to you.

I was hearing this at the top of the news hour on the way home last night…just reference to the paper he wrote, not the actual reason he was fired.
The MSM is just playing with words, it doesn’t look like they’re actually coming out and saying it was the reason.

Some other “prestigious” university will hire this ass or he’ll make a lot of wampum having a book — ghost written of course — on his adventures in the native American parallel universe.
The way to attack this problem is to cut off all government funding, usually disguised as research grants, to most of the programs in the so-called humanities. In particular all funding to ethnic studies programs or projects should be eliminated and any university diverting any of its budget to such “studies” should have all its federal grants eliminated sine die.
