Video: Left very angry at Romney for daring to compare Americans to Bin Laden
posted at 3:02 pm on July 23, 2007 by Allahpundit
Click the image for the video and a photo of the sign that’s hurt this very sensitive wing of our political spectrum so deeply, notwithstanding their endless Bush/Hitler comparisons, sneering references to the “terrorist in chief,” exceptionally clever Bush-as-Taliban photoshops, and polite pandering to the 9/11 Truthers in their midst. No one affects faux indignation like they do. Appreciate the artistry before you.

“Support Terrorist’s Rights — Vote Democrat”
My new bumper sticker…you like? j/k
Is this the best they have to hammer the Mitt. Pretty lame.
Anyone else in NH going to the Bedford town hall to see the Mittster?
proudinfidel on July 23, 2007 at 3:08 PM
You Know Who Bin Laden Would Vote For.
You don’t even have to be more specific than that.
A jackass could answer it.
profitsbeard on July 23, 2007 at 3:10 PM
I’ll second Good Lt…Zzzzzzz.
The left’s righteous indignation about having their patriotism and respect for the armed forces questioned is just fatiguing, we know what the nutroots are about.
Bad Candy on July 23, 2007 at 3:11 PM
I’m starting to think that “Perpetual Rage Boy”, “The Religion of Perpetual Outrage” and the “Democratic Party” all have something in common…now if I could just put my finger on it…
proudinfidel on July 23, 2007 at 3:12 PM
Only the left can invoke psychopathic murderers in their insults.
The same crowd complaining about this sign are the ones who must have their blog comments deleted or edited anytime a conservative dies, because of the vitriol which spews forth from their ranks.
Take a look at the HuffPo comments about Tammy Faye’s interview on Larry King. She was not my favorite person in the world, but these black-hearted people were cursing her as she lie on her deathbed.
There was an MSNBC poll recently which stated that 91% of Americans believe in God. I wonder.

No to brussel sprouts
No to Chrysler products
No to democrats
HA! You guys didn’t know brussel sprouts were the same as dems did you?
csdeven on July 23, 2007 at 3:13 PM
While I thought the sign was funny as hell I couldn’t believe Mitt was stupid enough to get anywhere near it. Doesn’t he remember Deans “Primal scream”? The last thing any politician needs to do is give their opposition ammo, and this was just plain red meat for the left.
doriangrey on July 23, 2007 at 3:18 PM
Now you’ve gone too far!
I happen to love brussel sprouts.
My parents read a baby book that said that if you call them ‘baby bushes’ kids think it’s cute and they’ll eat them.
Don’t know if that’s true or not, but, since childhood, the brussel sprout has been favorite vegetable of my siblings and me.
So, compare the Democrats to Osama all you want, but not the dear, sweet brussel sprout….it never hurt anybody.

Bad Candy on July 23, 2007 at 3:21 PM
I don’t think the reference to Osama was a comparison to any democrat. This is some seriously contrived outrage, unless these toolboxes happen to like Osama bin Laden (possible).
liquidflorian on July 23, 2007 at 3:25 PM
The only way he could have responded better would have been if he had said, “lighten up Francis”.
Working Stripes into his campaign might have been enough to get my vote. Mitt was sooo close.
Drew on July 23, 2007 at 3:27 PM
Just hit the link above for “terrorist in chief” and found Michael Moore’s slugsite, where he advises his lackeys “…ma[k]e the country ungovernable until the war is ended…”
Isn’t that a call to disruptive anarchy, if not a crypto-terroristic threat?
Sick.
If the country were as ungovernable as his appetite, we’d be in big trouble.
profitsbeard on July 23, 2007 at 3:28 PM
I guess this jerk has forgotten that Teddy(The Swimmer) Kennedy called Obama, Osama in an introduction.

And on the same day as the article about a comic book hero wiping out nearly everyone on Capital Hill.
Yeah, their outrage pains me.
Esthier on July 23, 2007 at 3:29 PM
Well said. I’m a bit embarrassed to admit, but I went straight to HuffPo to look at the comments when I saw that Tammy Faye had died, and wasn’t surprised to find that comments were disabled.
I also love Allah’s phrasing above: ” No one affects faux indignation like they do.”
I’m glad Mitt was smart enough not to take the bait.
Dork B. on July 23, 2007 at 3:32 PM
I can understand where the blogger is coming from. Just because your fellow Democrats do the “Bush is Hitler” dance doesn’t mean you agree with them, and it doesn’t follow that you can’t be offended by opponents pulling similar tricks. “The Left” isn’t some monolithic beast, and this guy shouldn’t have to answer for St. Cindy any more than Republicans should have to answer for Ron Paul. And some from the right like to blame candidates for shaking hands with folks carrying offensive signs.
Of course, it’s all a matter of degree: The sign didn’t say that Obama and Osama were the same – I assume the implication was that both would damage American interests and policy. And, also in Romney’s defense, even if the sign were interpreted as offensive, it’s hard to see how Romney should’ve condemned it, especially seeing as how he probably either didn’t read it or only read it during or after the photo-op.
That said, I never liked folks who tried to end a conversation by merely saying, “Lighten up.” He could have been a bit more civil and/or articulate, and that certainly would have provided a contrast with the folks who were yelling at him.
Anyway, is Osama really the most hated man in America today? I’ve seen a lot of hatred over the past couple of years, but precious little directed at OBL.
calbear on July 23, 2007 at 3:41 PM
Bad Candy: “The left’s righteous indignation about having their patriotism and respect for the armed forces questioned is just fatiguing, we know what the nutroots are about.”
There’s no question here. The left is UNPATRIOTIC. In fact, they openly support our enemy.
georgej on July 23, 2007 at 3:47 PM
The Bush and Hitler comparison was what I was going to say too, calbear.
It’s amazing that they are OUTRAGED at this silly sign that was created because it rhymes, and the comparison it implies.
But they don’t care when the Left compares Bush to the guy who systematically killed 6-15 MILLION people in HIS OWN COUNTRY.
Typical hypocrisy. This is a non-issue.
ThackerAgency on July 23, 2007 at 3:50 PM
I also think that the whole “osama/Obama” thing had to do with Sen. Kennedy’s inability to remember Barak Obama’s name. It caught on when Rush Limbaugh played the audio over and over giggling like a school girl at the gaffe.
Taleena on July 23, 2007 at 3:55 PM
Liberals: the enemy within.
I love it when they get shown for the treasonous terror-loving clowns they are. Soon, they’ll be taking to the streets burning soldiers in effigy and defecating on US flags.
Oh, wait, they’ve already done that…

I mostly like that he’s still stagnating at around 9% support in the polls. I suppose he does have that Edwards pretty-boy thing going on which appeals to a certain type.
Hollowpoint on July 23, 2007 at 4:12 PM
Unlike Fred, who is debating whether to make his announcement date, Romney has moved on to attacking potential Democratic rivals.
And since when was Hollowpoint Poll Guided? What polls is he talking about, and if he loves polls so much, does he support Hillary. He must be if he wants Fred to win the primary. Fred can’t even give an honsest answer.
BKennedy on July 23, 2007 at 4:15 PM
Too bad he didn’t dissect the sign.
1. No to Osama. Nothing wrong with that.
2. No to Obama. Well, he is a Republican and wants your vote. No to Obama’s dangerous lefty spin. Nothing wrong with that.
3. No to Chelsea’s Momma. See answer to No. 2.
That’s not comparing Obama to Osama to Chelsea’s Momma. It’s basically just Nancy Reagan’s “Just say No” with a twist.

Exactly. Remember the comments after Tony Snow’s cancer was revealed. Dick Cheney and the bomb. But one thing said about Silky. And now Obama, but now really. And the guy has a connip-fit.
PowWow on July 23, 2007 at 4:32 PM
Sigh… another delusionally angry yet rabid Mitt supporter- so typical. You’re approaching Ron Paul cultist status there duder.
Every legit poll shows Mitt around 9%-10%, and in theoretical matchups against Hillary, Obama or Edwards, he consistantly fares the worst of the top 4 Republican candidates, including Fred.
Giving the nomination to FlipFlop Mitt would not only serve to further demoralize the Republican base but would insure almost certain victory to the Democrats. A pandering silver spoon, flip-flopping, opportunistic slickster (who’s also Mormon) simply won’t win. A vote for Mitt = a vote for Hillary.
Hollowpoint on July 23, 2007 at 4:33 PM
This may come as a shock to you but nobody is given the nomination. They have to earn it. Through votes. From the base.
JackStraw on July 23, 2007 at 4:36 PM
That was about as close to go f#@k yourself as a politician can get.
well done.
saiga on July 23, 2007 at 4:38 PM
Satan believes in God, too. So like, what does believing in God have to do with, well, ANYTHING? BTW, have you ever noticed (in the four Gospels) that the ones that instantaneously recognized the true identity of Jesus were…viz. the demons?
Of course, NOW the leftists will all say that HotAir participants are “comparing us Americans with Satan”. But then, that’s NOT what I said, now is it? Maybe it’ll be worth “taking the heat”, if it draws fire away from Romney et. al. Of course, all the while, the leftists will conveniently forget that the Jihadists refer to us Americans (collectively) as “the Great Satan.” Go figure.
CyberCipher on July 23, 2007 at 4:39 PM
I see the point you are trying to make, but there is no such thing as a national election, and therefore no national poll truly matters.
Fifty elections in fifty states my friend.
PS>Be nice, there is nothing to suggest BKennedy is anywhere near the Ron Paul psycho profile.
proudinfidel on July 23, 2007 at 4:40 PM
I think I’ll give the standard bear Fred?head response and say:
It’s just the Beltway Boys that FEAR him.
If I recall, Mitt is the one who won the last debate (Fred was absent with a case of indecision and/or cowardice, which persists until today). Mitt is the one who leads in the first primary states. Mitt is the only one acting as if he’s already won the primary, attacking his Democratic opponents instead of trying to dissect his fellow Republicans.
Speaking of flip-flopping, opportunistic slicksters, what is Fred “I do not recall being paid to lobby for abortions but I do remember I was always pro-life. Also, I now regret my vote on Campaign Finance Reform now that I may possibly be perhaps running for office.” Thompson?
Woops. Nice try Hollow points.

Except for fred?. As a non-candidate, he is above the fray and waging a unique campaign that has him announcing his candidacy AFTER he wins the general election! THAT is how smart fred? is!
csdeven on July 23, 2007 at 5:06 PM
Thanks for proving my point. Any criticism of Mitt is addressed only with “OH YEAH, WELL FRED HASN’T ANNOUNCED SO THERE! AND HE VOTED FOR MCCAIN-FEINGOLD!!!1!1!”
If Mitt were caught on camera participating in a Satanic human sacrifice ritual while wearing a pink dress, you’d still find a way to somehow make it about Fred Thompson.

Video is not loading for me. Does anyone have an alternate link?
PowWow on July 23, 2007 at 5:19 PM
It’s the Internet. We do not engage in any kind of “lighten up” here.
And while I believe that Mitt isn’t acceptable, Ron Paul doesn’t even belong in the same sentence as the rest of the candidates. In fact, every sentence about Ron Paul should include the words “mental institution”, “tinfoil hat”, “crazy”, “looney”, or “Get those damn Zionist kids off my lawn”.
Hollowpoint on July 23, 2007 at 5:19 PM
I agree. No loon or non-candidate should be mentioned in the same breath as real candidates.
csdeven on July 23, 2007 at 5:37 PM
I think I must agree with the comment made earlier that this was a jab at “the swimmer’s” remark calling Obama “Obama Osama”. I’d sure like to get a hold of that gal and get her explanation.
Also, does it do the loony left any credit to complain about being compared to Osama, but say nothing about being compared to Karl Marx?
I also noticed that Mitt has a double digit lead in NH. But I guess that don’t matter when the national polls say differently? Somebody better tell the folks of NH that they don’t matter.
csdeven on July 23, 2007 at 5:51 PM
Well, you ARE thr one hellbent on FLIP FLIP ALERT ALL CYLINDERS, so I figure it’s only fair play to bring up your (non-)candidates obvious backpedalling.
In other words: If you wan’t to talk flipflop, don’t support a flipflop.
BKennedy on July 23, 2007 at 5:52 PM
Heh. The weenies over at BuckeyeStateBlog really need to develop a sense of humor. A thicker skin and a dictionary might help, too.
GT on July 23, 2007 at 5:56 PM
Good for Mitt. We don’t do this enough. Give them a taste of their own medicine. I’m sick of taking the high road. I’m done. I’m making t-shirts with Hillary’s picture on it and the caption “Who killed Vince Foster?” I might step it up a notch and do a Waco themed one as well. (Why didn’t the left get their panties in a bunch about Waco, I wonder?)No, they need more of this.
foxforce91 on July 23, 2007 at 6:07 PM
Tally up the flip-flop counter, and Mitt beats out all the other candidates (declared or undeclared) combined. Mitt owns the Flip-Flop National Heavyweight title, and there are no challengers in sight. Someone who’s been so blatant about it in such a short period of time simply can’t be trusted.
Hollowpoint on July 23, 2007 at 6:15 PM
Your appearance in every Mitt thread to predict how awful he would be in the future while conviently ignoring his actual record is pretty tiresome.
The video doesnt work for me. I think the site is overwhelmed with traffic.
Resolute on July 23, 2007 at 6:16 PM
Ah, that explains it, there’s a mythical counter in Hollow Points head. I assume the calculus for this counter goes something like:
Step 1: Complete Calculations.
Rule 1: Fred: “Take any number, multiply by 0!, leaving Fred!”
Rule 2: Mitt: “Take any number, multiply by 100″
Step 2: Rant and Rave about Flip-Flops accordingly.
Remember folks, changing your mind over time is inherently bad.
BKennedy on July 23, 2007 at 6:26 PM
Over time? No. Changing positions you had just a few years prior the moment you decide to run for President? Yes.
He should’ve ran again for governor where he could do some good instead of this futile, ambition-driven run for President that he just can’t win.
Hollowpoint on July 23, 2007 at 6:35 PM
C’mon, Osama hearts Hillary and Obama, (any old silly sign can’t change that) why, Hills’ Hubby let him know when those naughty missiles were coming and Obama wants to send the Keystone Cops after terrorists and keep that nasty old military out of everybody’s playground.
If after either one of them become President, a major attack occurs will there be impeachment proceedings?
Speakup on July 23, 2007 at 6:37 PM
What’s funny is that had Mitt gotten rid of “the swimmer” in 1994, none of us would care if he ate a baby on live TV. Since he became governor of the bluest of blue states and governed as a moderate, eliminated the deficit, held abortion and gay marriage in check, etc, you’d think that all conservatives would applaud that. Mitt is a moderate and has a vast advantage of experience over the other candidates and non-candidate. The electorate in the general, who aren’t as partisan as we, will appreciate the fact that Mitt made a pledge to the people of MA, and despite his personal views, kept his promise.
That’s good stuff and will play well with most Americans.

Huh? My 8:26 didn’t print properly at all.
I left a comment following that for CSDeven which asked why he always chose these freaky analogies and said (with apologies to Bon Jovi) that “He Gives Mitt a Bad Name”.
Buy Danish on July 23, 2007 at 9:41 PM
You are predisposed to the desire for Mitt! to have a bad name, so you create a straw man that makes that easier for you to believe that he does have a bad name.
Just because you don’t get the analogy, doesn’t mean it’s freaky. It just means you have trouble with 3 dimensional thinking that isn’t the same canned words everyone else uses. In the future, if you need help, just ask and I’ll put it in terms that you are more able to grasp.
To put the baby eating comment in simpler terms…..
Even if Mitt! ate a baby on TV, he is still a thousand times better than “the swimmer”.

rahjr2k on July 24, 2007 at 2:37 AM
csdeven,
Let me make this easy enough for YOU to understand:
I am a Romney supporter and think he would make a fine President. I also think we have fine candidates running against him for the nomination that, should Romney not get the nomination for whatever reason, I would heartily support.
I understand your freaky analogy.
If I had a tomato handy I’d throw it at you. (I’d also throw one at Hollowpoint, who is equally annoying and does as much a disservice to Fred as you do to Mitt).
The concept of tomato throwing is a metaphor and is not meant to be taken literally.

Ok, I get it now. I apologize for assuming your stance on Mitt! was of a negative nature.
Look, there is nothing I can do to help or hurt Mitts! image in the eyes of others. My comments are a reflection of me and no one else. So, if anyone has an issue with me and the way I express mself, then they should leave it at my doorstep and judge the candidates on their words and deeds.

Buy Danish on July 24, 2007 at 10:48 AM
Well, you have some serious issues if you judge people by the actions of others.
By your “logic” a murderer could start singing your praises. Guess what, that casts you in a bad light and is a reflection on you personally.
csdeven on July 24, 2007 at 11:42 AM
csdeven,
The only “issues” that I have is with your inability to understand a very simple concept.
This is a political blog. You are a Romney supporter, but in your “support” you say bizarre things that reflect poorly on him. It doesn’t matter one bit how I judge people – it matters how the voters judge Romney.
I can’t believe that any candidate would appreciate the “support” of someone who talks about Jesus suits and eating babies, particularly one who belongs to a religion that already has a lot of negatives to overcome in the world of public opinion.
If you really want him to win the nomination, it would behoove you to do a litte editing before you hit “Submit Comment” button.
Or maybe you just don’t realize how bizarre comments like that sound?
Buy Danish on July 24, 2007 at 12:03 PM
Then I suggest you judge me by those comments and not Mitt! Romney.
And yes, you do have a serious issue with concept of personal responsibility. It is bordering on moonbattishness.
csdeven on July 24, 2007 at 12:48 PM
And since you are a Mitt! supporter, should I judge Mitt! as an unfit candidate because you and your misguided thinking is a reflection on him?
Just where in goodness name do you people learn this crap? My goodness, get a clue will ya?
csdeven on July 24, 2007 at 12:50 PM
csdeven,
LOL. How is my thinking misguided?
You’re the one making bizarro comments about Jesus suits and eating babies.
Now you’ve decided that because I take issue with those comments that I am a Moonbat and “have a serious issue with personal responsibility”.
Believe me, I don’t think Mitt is an “unfit candidate” because of your weird comments, but I’m not the person who needs to be persuaded to support him.
