The Military Channel: My War Diary

Surfing the On Demand channels on digital cable the other afternoon, I came across something unexpected: Good news from Afghanistan and Iraq. It comes in a series called My War Diary on the Military Channel.

I watched all of the episodes that were there, about five or six total. Some are shot by troops themselves, and they’re all narrated by troops. I don’t have much more to say than that, just that they’re very well done and if you happen to have cable On Demand or the equivalent satellite service, they’re worth checking out.

Also see the Pentagon channel. Channel 9405 on the Dish network. It is by and for military personnel.

The Pentagon channel has raw coverage of people at work in Iraq and frequent news conferences from the area.

Highly recommended as an antidote to MSM spin.

Been watching it for a while. I love hearing their voices.

Although I am supposedly subscribed to ALL Dish channels (every movie channel, HD, etc.. – think it is called the America’s Everything pak) I do not have that channel. The Dish Website says it should be included. Is it regional?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Have seen a few on the Military Channel that I have. Definitely good to watch.

They are on my DVR record list. Awesome stuff!

I’ve seen them, I thought that the Dhimmicrats and the doom and gloom Liberals should also watch them.

You should have it http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/whats_on_dish/programming_packages/americas_everything_pack/packages.aspx

Try the “all” guide.

Hint to all – check in often. The Pentagon channel carries live coverage of events of interest to miltary personnel without changing the description on the guide.

Man, I love guys in military uniforms!

I know it is “available” as part of my package, it’s just not listed on my guide.

Apparently that channel requires satellite 148. my “Dish 1000″ only points to 119 121 & 129 – I’m not sure why. I had to upgrade to that dish when I got HD. I guess they have other ones now. Probably will require a second dish to get other satellites (think that is also true for some local HD channels in some areas – not available in NW Montana yet, unfortunately). Sorry, didt’t mean to turn this into a tech forum. I’ll call Dish

I watch the Military Channel petty regularly and that is indeed an amazing show. I am simply in awe of their bravery and dedication.

*salutes*

You are just now seing this om the Military channel? They have had it on for a while.

“There goes another one. This is baghdad baby”

I have a vendor that just got back from Iraq after a 1 year deployment just north of Baghdad. He says most of the insurgents they are killing are getting younger and younger. He said the last 4 months he was there, all the insurgents looked to be aroud 16 or so. He says we have whacked most of the older ones already.

Like me, he too is worried that the Iraqi people just don’t seem to have the smarts to run a decent show.

I saw an episode about a month ago where Marines were searching a house. One of the Marines was sifting through DVDs and such and remarked “These guys over here are all total porn dogs.”
That kinda stuck with me…

Great show, I watch it often.

As far as the dish thing, try going into the set up/install section from menu. Click on “check switch” Dish does not automatically show all sat channels without doing this. Once it does this proceedure you should see all your avalible channels on the guide. I believe the military channel is 195.

I have caught a few episodes. I like the footage that gives you a first person perpective, where you see what they see. Of course the wife makes me turn it when it get the point where I am hollering out directions to the team.

Great show. Just what America needs to see and hear.

LOVE that show! Gives those of us who take freedom for granted a chance to live vicariously through those who don’t.

Tony737 on July 23, 2007 at 3:11 PM

I personally don’t watch much TV, except History Channel, some FOX News and stuff like this Military channel that I look forward to seeing. Thanks for the tip. I just had digital cable installed last Monday, coincidence?

I set my tuner to 287 on DirecTV years ago and ripped the rest of the buttons off. I love these shows and as a side benefit, I think I could build a Nimitz class carrier in my back yard.

I’ve heard from more than a few vets some very similar thoughts. Still, should it come as a surprise? They oppress their women and keep them comvered so much that the men likely need to release some sexual tension one way or another so hence all the porn.

Yakko77 on July 23, 2007 at 6:35 PM

Just now catching this show? I’ve watched it since it started.
